Pascal Wilde

- Born to an upper class family out of an off the records business arrangement between a red-headed scavenger woman and the politician Darius Legato.

- Child was legally registered in the system under the name Pascal Legato, and passed off as Darius and his wife's legitimate son. 

- Pascal was raised solely to please Darius' wife, who was unable to carry her own children to full term despite her attempts.

- Filia became discontent however as she realized what Darius did to acquire Pascal. Their relationship was strained.

- Pascal strayed from home to avoid his mother. Ended up meeting and saving the life of Maximillion Grant, a boy from a dangerous upper class family.

- Pascal was paid to spend time with Max as a friend and protector.

- At Max's father's request, Pascal's parents agreed to "lend" him to the Grants for thorough training as one of the family's special bodyguards, or "butlers."

- Pascal spent several years being conditioned to serve the Grants, all while cheerfully (cough) studying alongside Max as a schoolmate and undergoing grueling physical training whenever Max could afford to be without him.

- Although they appeared to be friends in public despite Pascal's job, Max's family strictly enforced the master/servant relationship. Max wasn't cruel, but he took great pleasure in his perceived superior role. He never really let Pascal forget his station. Ever.

- The Grants have a long standing underground conflict with their rivals, the Allards, for control over parts of the city. Goons were hired for assassinations. Foul play occurred at parties. Occasionally this put Max directly in danger.

- Needless to say, while working for Max, Pascal ended up killing a few people- whether in self-defense or on his master's order. No matter the true case, it always went on record under self-defense. The brutality of his work began to weigh on Pascal's conscience, as well as his local reputation.

- When Pascal tried to go home to get permission from his parents to quit his work for the Grants, his mother finally rejected him as the worthless child of a scavenger. She didn't want to be associated with such a violent scoundrel. His father did nothing to defend him either.

- His defeated mannerism upon his return spurred Max to take revenge on his favorite servant's behalf, without permission. In short, Max ordered a hit on Pascal's parents. His mother was killed, and his father was heavily wounded.

- The incident was framed as Vigilante activity, but Max confided in Pascal, believing the news would improve the butler's mood.

- From then, Pascal did appear to be more lively. It was all a ruse to keep himself in the game, because in his mind, he really had no where else to go. He became aware of just how disgusted he was with his master, and yet feared just how many more people could get hurt if he didn't stick close enough to curb Max's violent tendencies.

- This worked somewhat to his advantage. Pascal was pushed to pass the test on his 16th birthday, just so the Grants could keep him handy.

- Pascal moved into the Grant's family home and, though they kept him busy, he was never wanting for good food, fine clothing, or entertainment. His favorite time was spent tending to the family's private garden while Max was reading there.

- Max and Pascal even entered the police force around the same time. The required service time passed. Max stayed in the force, while Pascal was told to return to his former occupation full-time.

- Around age 19, a lady of the Allard's managed to out-perform Max Grant in the police force. Not to mention she was beginning to pay more attention to Pascal than Max could stomach. (Who knew a violent butler was the slightest bit appealing?) In any case, a butler shouldn't get more attention than his master. As far as Max was concerned, his friend only belonged to him.

- Greatly tempted by Ms. Allard's ernest affection, Pascal did slowly begin seeing her without Max's permission. In fact, he never asked.

- Upon spotting them alone together in an innocent rendezvous, Max became frustrated. So much that when Pascal returned, he ordered his butler to murder Ms. Allard immediately.

- For the first time in a long time, Pascal managed to refuse his master's order. Max proceeded to batter Pascal, but ended up getting his arm broken when Pascal reacted to defend himself. Pascal disabled Max before he could use his gun.

- Although, Max was still obsessively attached enough to his butler to want to keep him around, it was all he could do afterwards to prevent his own father from having the ingrate killed. 

- Pascal was fired from his job, sent to prison for a considerably short time, and when his greatly enfeebled father bailed him out, the Grants pulled a few strings to have Pascal dropped to Middle Class-- a warning against his "recklessly violent" behavior, they said.

- Ms. Allard had also boldly visited Pascal while he was locked away, but she stopped when she discovered his status declined. As exciting as dating an upper class criminal may have been to her (for some reason), dating a lower class hooligan was beneath her. She suddenly did a heel-face turn, rubbed her cop status in his face, and strolled away. He hasn't seen her since.

- Pascal thought he was done with his former life, but the Grants' fresh invitation came quickly enough, informing Pascal that he had been re-hired. A conveniently located middle class apartment had been reserved for him and he was to return to work immediately.

- Pascal had no desire to return to work for his former master. More so, he was afraid that on a psychological level, he wouldn't be able to refuse if he even went only to visit as a friend.

- Instead, Pascal wandered the streets in search of new work for a while, living off of the small amount his father could spare him to help him along. With the death of his mother and loss of his health, Darius Legato's popularity was declining as fast as his income.

- Still a loyal son after everything, Pascal was impatient to find a job to assist his father before it was too late. The first he came across was an extremely well paying but shady volunteer position as a "test subject" at the ETHIX Research Institute. Pascal signed up immediately.

- While all of the tools and materials used in the experiment were approved, the scientists' methods once they actually began were illegal. It was originally intended to be a long horrible series of DNA tinkering with breaks in between. The entire procedure should have lasted 1.5 years.

- To try to get quicker results, the scientists worked tirelessly to complete all of the test in the span of 5 DAYS. Not only did this effectively fry Pascal's NUIP chip, but it nearly killed him. As far as the government's systems were concerned, it did.

- "Genetically poisoned then essentially cremated' by a faulty machine, they said. ETHIX handed over the digitally-fingerprinted consent files and Pascal's destroyed NUIP chip. A few investigators were bribed not to look at the evidence too carefully, and in the end the official report stated just enough to cover ETHIX's tracks.

- Luckily for Pascal, the woman in charge of the experiments was not completely heartless. "Ms. E." She and two very close co-workers of hers worked togather to help him stabilize rather than dispose of their test subject after the mess.

-He spend most of his 21st year simply in the recovery process. He remembers the painful experiments and the chemical therapy mostly as a long, unpleasant blur. Relives it sometimes in detail within nightmares, the sort he would prefer not to recall after he wakes up.

- During his stay, he bonded with Ms. E. to a degree as she endeavored to keep him somewhat entertained in exchange for good behavior. She is the one who provided him with a sky-light space in the rusty corner of the attic. Pascal made it his nest, garden, and haven.

-Only recently has he been deemed altered and 'safe' enough to leave the lab sometimes. He began by pretending to come to work as Ms. E's hand picked lab assistant. Slowly he built up her and the other scientists trust by going out at their request and collecting supplies or samples that ETHIX may not necessarily want the government to know about.

-Sadly, after the scientists became familiar with him, his fortunes took another turn for the worst. Ms. E and her cohorts began making connections with their friends outside of the lab to set him up for other kinds of work. More so, they were lending him to other vendors.

-At this point, Pascal has become frustrated dealing with people trading him around and treating him like an object or a pet, rather than a human. Not that he knows exactly what to do about it. All he really knows is how to serve. So, until he figures out something else he can take as much pride in, he decided he'll continue to do his job.
