“Perfect,” Lyante replied, “you’ve really gone above and beyond my expectations.” She couldn’t have been more overjoyed. Since the accident that took her eye, she’d been looking for a suitable prosthetic, however, being a poor student in the lower class didn’t exactly give her much options, even if she made some cash on the side with various odd jobs.
Slowly, Lyante took the bobby pin out of her hair. More an antique memento than a hair ornament at this point, Lyante carefully tucked it away. Her familiar bang back over her eye, Lyante was slightly surprised to find that the little light making it through her bang got multiplied and still made for a decent image in the normal view.
Lyante was still getting used to it and fiddled with her goggles to establish a connection with the eye. Through the goggles, she would be able to connect to the Secret Police databases and have the information displayed as an overlay in her eye. As she was doing this, she kept quiet and stood still for the better part of a few minutes.
Suddenly a grin grew on her lips, as she snapped her face towards Heather. “I’m so sorry,” she apologized, “I got caught up with testing the abilities of this thing.” As her eye took in the image of the woman, it connected through the goggles with the database and not long after, information came flooding in. “You did exceptionally well,” Lyante cooed, smiling evilly as she added: “Miss Forens.”
“I might have to call upon your talents once more…for future projects. But for now…” Lyante grabbed another chip from her pocket and placed it on Heather’s workbench. “Make me a spare. While it clearly doesn’t have the urgency it had with the first, I like to be prepared. And besides, eyes come in pairs, right?” She flashed Heather her most charming smile. “I’ll let myself out. I’ll be back somewhere next month. Thanks again for the amazing work.”
Lyante stepped outside after the C.S. bot opened one of the garage doors for her. Careful not to show the excitement contained within her, she made her way back to the upper class, wanting to jump and dance, but knowing better. They were always watching, after all. Let them, she thought, I’ll be looking back, and my vision just got a lot better.
It was true she was splurging a little bit, but as stingy as she normally was, it wouldn’t hurt her that much. It might cost her an arm and a leg, but at least she got an eye out of it.
“Heather Forens,” Lyante mouthed the name as she stepped inside her residence. Smiling, she made the resolution to dig up the woman’s Test results and background. It wouldn’t be hard; in fact, she could do it with her eye closed.
