Lyante made her way down the street as she double checked the address. It had been ages since she last visited the middle class business district, well, at least in the daylight. The entire place had something nostalgic to her; she still remembered moving to the district, escaping yet another awful class.
But she had no time to get nostalgic, her time was valuable and somehow she thought the excuse that she was ‘following up on a lead’ wouldn’t keep the other agents from prying for much longer. It had taken her a long time to find the ideal shop that combined the quality of the upper class with the anonymity of the lower classes. The shop and the owner’s credentials were perfect for what she had in mind. Of course, she was positive she could build the thing herself, but somebody with more…hands-on experience would probably be preferable for such a...delicate job.
Lyante stepped into the shop, knocking on the door and staring at all the mechanical and technological doodads spread around the shop. Almost squeaking with glee, she marveled at them, only to find herself startled by a robot, greeting her in such a happy fashion, it bordered on creepy.
“Look, you mechanical monstrosity, take me to your leader, I have a design to discuss,” Lyante said to the robot, shaking the stack of design and technical specs at its interface plate.
The robot tried again to greet her and help classifying her problem, but Lyante didn’t have time for this. She brought herself to the level of the little robot and gave it a big smile: “Listen buddy,” still smiling as she set her gun against its head, “I’d really appreciate it if you took me to your boss, I got this tall order of a prosthetic and I need a thinking lifeform to discuss it with.”
She stood back up, still holding the gun against the robot: “If you’re in here, I admire your skill building this little guy, but if I’m not talking to another human in 5 counts, you’ll get to rebuild him.”

"Hello and welcome to Forens' Repairs and Mods! How may we be of service to you today?"
That was the first thing the ever so cheerful robot, barely knee-high said. When the customer seemed less than receptive, going so far to shake the poor bot, it simply tilted it's head. It wasn't exactly designed to be shaken and it was an unusual reaction. Maybe it just needed to reaffirm it's greeting!
"Hello and welcome to Forens' Repairs and Mods! How may we be of service to you today?"
Still no deal apparently. This was out of the poor bot's hands, just merely staring up at the woman with no concept of mortality. The smile on it's screen stayed, looking absolutely dumb and unaware of just the situation it was in. Even as the woman began to count down, it didn't seem troubled that it's creator had yet to arrive. It wasn't until the count of one, that a voice echoed out.
"Will you hold it for a second?!"
Out came a girl, dawned in goggles, smudges on her clothes, and a simple prosthetic hand while the other was gloved. Her expression was hard to gauge as she approached the lady, before finally lifting her googles up and squinting at her. The bot turned, nodding towards it's creator and saying, "Hello there, Miss Forens! This woman's request was: '“Look, you mechanical monstrosity, take me to your leader, I have a design to discuss,”. We are unsure what to do in this situation, Miss!"
It echoed the stranger's voice before going back to it's cheerful tone. All too happy to admit it had no idea what was going on. The girl, Heather shook her head, sighing. "Figures someone brings in a gun and you don't even know how to deal with it. Mind putting that away, yeah? Last thing I need is someone wavin' a gun around in here for the world to see. I hope you have a permit for that too... I mean, the gun, not the waving it around at the world thing. Whatever."
And just as dismissively she sounded, Heather turned away, expecting the woman to follow as she rounded a corner in her shop, approaching the work bench and settling her goggles back on and tinkering with a disabled bot. There didn't seem to be any worries of one of her potential customer's coming in armed as the gearhead continued about with her work normally.
"Soooo, what do you need that you couldn't just direct to my Customer Service Bots?"

“I find it’s the fastest way to deal with people, as I don’t have much time,” Lyante said, following the quirky girl to her workbench. Lyante appreciated a good pair of googles as she sized up the girl, her nonchalant attitude about the gun as well as her prosthetic hand convinced Lyante she had made the right choice in choosing this shop.
She had shown she wasn’t easily intimidated and the elegant, yet functional design of the hand was exactly what she was looking for in hers. “Your Customer Service Bot records what I say, something I’d like to avoid.” Lyante was already using her spider droid to shield her doings from the surrounding cameras most of the time, but she didn’t want to overdo it or she might as well wear a great big sign saying she was doing secret stuff. Not that she was doing anything illegal, but secrets were more lethal that any weapon in Novus, especially in her line of work.
“I’ve chosen this shop because of its reputation for excellence. I also want it done it the utmost secrecy, I suspect that’s quite a common request. Any surcharge for this service will not pose a problem.” Lyante skipped all the pleasantries and got down to business fast.
“I need a prosthetic that fits in here.” Slowly she slipped her goggles down, letting them hang around her neck and carefully swept away her bang, revealing her left eye missing, a small, strange looking scar dividing her eyebrow in two. “And I want you to fit all this,” Lyante placed the stack of tech specs on the table, “into the prosthetic.”
“Sound like a challenge?” Lyante said, rummaging around in the pouch sewn in her pants. Not really waiting for an answer she fished what appeared to be a glass eye from her pocket and placed it on the counter. “For reference.” A few seconds later she placed a money chip on the table. Lyante thought the price was fair, considering it was double what a whole weaponized arm would cost, but then again, she was buying silence along with the prosthetic.
Lyante gave the shop owner her most charming smile out of habit, but somehow she thought that it would have little effect on this woman. “Go over the tech specs for a minute if you please and let me know if you’re up for the task.” Lyante was already fingering the other money chip in her pocket in case she would get declined. It wasn’t as much as her first chip, but would be enough to buy the shopkeeper’s silence.

Hm? This was a private matter? As much as Heather was a bit skeptical of using her security dampers, she looked up at the woman. Finally she gave her one good look over, as if deciding maybe she was trustworthy enough or liable to rat her out. It wasn't like what she was doing was technically illegal... Aside from having her security dampers and other hidden services. That was only SOMEWHAT illegal in comparison to other things. But still, the woman seemed extremely serious about her privacy and considering she did have a gun, Heather sort of figured maybe denying her privacy wasn't the best of things to do.
"C.S 03, please delete the past five minutes of your records and skid-daddle to give us some privacy." "Yes, Miss Forens. Records of the 'past five minutes' have been deleted. And we shall see to your privacy. If there is anything else we can do, just call on us!" With that, the bot walked away, it's arm hitting the corner of a wall as it made a turn and disappeared from sight.
Finally, it was time to get to the nitty gritty of whatever in the doo-da that this woman wanted. She observed quietly, still looking unamused as ever. Even as Lyante lifted her bangs to reveal her missing eye, Heather didn't flinch. No, it wasn't until she laid those tech specs that there a brief look of excitement that flashed in her eyes as if she could just pounce on the stack. But for business sake, she remained professional.
"It's doable, I'm sure," The gearhead replied, lowering her own goggles to observe them and go over what exactly this woman wanted for her prosthetic eye. Photo multipliers for aid in night vision? Her eyebrow quirked at that. Not everyone came in here for such specifics. It made her wonder if this woman was up to no good or what. But it wasn't her place to ask and as she lowered the specs back onto the table, Heather picked the money chip up, holding it to the back of her neck to briefly scan just how much- HOLY MOLEY.
This woman had BANK. This was more than enough and she quickly placed the chip back down, not dumping the funds in just yet. "I can do it, but I have a request for MY safety. Just so once I'm done, you don't come back and shoot me or anything, fill out this form."
She dug into a drawer, slapping down a simple form. It detailed over that the woman was agreeing to pay for Heather's services and that this would be a strictly confidential business practice so long as there wasn't a breech of trust(aka her walking up and shooting Heather).
"It won't reach anyone's eyes... or eye..." There was a brief pause to slap her knee at her own joke, despite it not being funny in the first place. "But yeah, mostly for my safety. So I just need your signature on the bottom and then we'll be dandy."
Assuming she signed it, Heather thumbed the specs again, her foot tapping against the ground excitedly. This was going to be a fun little project, hNNNGH. Her smile couldn't be hidden as she looked it over, glancing over the glass eye as well. This was going to be a fun little job, she just knew it.

Lyante smiled, perhaps a little bit too wide, as her admiration of this woman grew. She obviously had a good eye for situations and she knew how to play ball, a rare quality even within the upper class, and one that Lyante knew to appreciate. As the shop owner casually demanded her CS droid to delete the past five minutes and continued to tell her it was doable, the raven-haired secret agent found herself almost squeaking with glee at how smooth this whole thing went. This time, she might not have to make people disappear.
She raised an eyebrow (her good one) at the waver she apparently had to sign. This girl thinks ahead, Lyante thought as she went over her options. Clearly this woman not only had the expertise and the equipment Lyante needed for this project, but enough savviness to make her…valuable for future escapades. She made a mental note of checking each circuit in the end product for hidden code or ‘failsafe’ bombs or what not. The last thing she wanted to do is shoving a miniature bomb in her eye socket.
“You got yourself a deal,” Lyante cooed, I can always make the document disappear, she thought, it doesn’t state what she is building for me, so I can claim I had to have a quick repair for my goggles, they got me on camera walking up and down the street anyway. Giving the girl a nod, she took out a pen and signed her name on the document, using her real name, less things to remember and it seemed this woman couldn’t care less who Lyante was.
“Eye see what you did there,” Lyante punned back as she signed, getting the administrative portion of this transaction out of the way. Then, she turned to the specs, carefully going over each requirement for the eye with Heather. Lyante couldn’t imagine the girl in front of her not knowing what she meant, still she elaborated on every line, detailing the parts she wanted and telling her that if she couldn’t get a part, she herself would supply it, after all, her contacts covered a lot more supply routes (legal and illegal). Although...she couldn’t be sure…this woman was something special after all.
After quite some time discussing technology, Lyante excused herself. “It seems we have run out of pages and I have run out of time. I’ll be back in one week’s time.” Lyante gave her a small appreciative nod as she put the other credit chip down on the bench. “Try and bump it to the top of the old priority list, if you can.”
Being guided to the exit by the overly chipper robots, she made her way to her next assignment, having a good feeling about the project, excited by the prospect of once again having depth perception without her goggles. First she’d complete herself again, then she’d take her revenge. After that, maybe she’d buy herself some strawberry cheesecake. To say she couldn’t wait for the week to fly by was an understatement.

Heather grinned at the woman, deeming her worthy enough of having a full fledged smile simply because the woman, Lyante, was a good sport about her pun. That was when they delved into the fun part, all the tech she wanted involved. Heather opened her NUIP, the holographic screen appearing above her right palm, keeping track of exactly everything Lyante pointed out and also thinking of her own ideas that she could possibly put to work that wouldn't be too pricey. Honestly Lyante overcompensated with the amount given to Heather, even if it was to buy her silence. The least she could do is give her something a tiny bit special, even if it didn't do too much. Once her customer finished, Heather set the date quickly before her hand flicked across the holographic screen of her NUIP and signed off.
"A week should be plenty of time. I'll start on it tomorrow and it'll be done by then," She promised, giving her a thumbs up. "Trust me, your eye is going to be a... sight to see."
A laugh now and another slap of the knee. She managed to stay quiet before she lost her customer due to puns. Though her surprised to see another money chip was evident as she opened her mouth before closing it. It wasn't like she wasn't going to deny some extra money. Money was money and money DID make the world go around. Well, technically it was conversation of angular momentum. But, bah, scientific specifics!
--- One week later.
Despite looking over the eye at least a million times, Heather still debated if it was ready. It had everything Lyante wanted. Capable of night vision, capable of limited hacking(and thank goodness for her not wanting an entire hacking program, seeing as the gearhead had only so much knowledge in hacking), and also switch to an electromagnetic spectrum. There was also the bonus feature of being able to select eye color, since she figured that Lyante might like that. That and the function of activating a reticle for aiming that fancy gun of her's. It wasn't going to guarantee a hit by any means, but it'd help a lot in case she had sloppy aim.
Next was the plug-in that Lyante would need to insert into her port to calibrate with the eye. There was also a tiny little suction cup, in case her customer had difficulty getting the eye out when she needed to clean it.
That was really all she could do in a week's time and still try to handle her other customers' orders. It took her some extra hours into the night to finish, but at the very least, she managed to get the eye and other things done. With all the money she was making, she could maybe head down to wherever the black market next planned to open. Pick up some nice tools or tech that she could maybe improve upon. Maybe. Genius or not, fiddling with someone else's work could either improve or ruin the device beyond belief.
Though Heather liked to think everything she touched practically turned to gold.
"Miss Forens, it's time to lock up the shop. Shall we start?" "Mm, yeah, just keep one of the garage doors open for me. I'm expecting a visit." "Weekly visit from Mister Antakov?" "Ughhhhhh, don't remind me of him. Jerk totally blew off my thoughts on the Adam and Eve conspiracy theories I was watching. He might as well think he came out of the ground like a flower! A hideous, ugly, flower!"
Oh yes, Volk certainly drove her nuts... Even if that wasn't hard. Without further adieu, her C.S bots began to close shop, with Heather starting to put away her tools as means to pass time.

Lyante cursed, as she hurried through the city. She’d been stuck all day with an assignment nobody wanted and had to report her findings to a briefing room that didn’t care. What use could staking out possible black market locations possibly have? Even if you were so unfathomably lucky as to have it show up, you wouldn’t report it, you’d just browse and take a note of its shopkeepers, building a larger network. For now, she had to put up with this convoluted sham of an assignment, even if it meant she was late for a much more pleasant meeting.
Finally, the now familiar shop came into view and Lyante stopped her running to catch her breath, the last thing she wanted is for Heather to think she was too eager. As she calmed down, she approached the shop, getting more and more excited as she knocked on one of closed garage doors. Immediately she heard the C.S. bot approach, its cheery message playing, asking if it could help her.
Lyante ignored it, knowing whatever she would say would only get recorded and deleted afterward. She made her way to the back, where she knew the talented engineer would be. Announcing her arrival with a number of knocks in the door, she indeed found the woman where she had left her last time.
Greeting the goggled girl, Lyante couldn’t help but smile, looking at the workbench, the pages of technical specs no longer a neat pile; checks were placed in different colors to keep tabs on what was and what hadn’t been implemented during various stages of design and constructions. She saw the eye she had given the woman as a reference nearly dissected, measured again and again to get every detail right.
And there, in the center of the bench, held in a containment field to keep dirt out, floated the eye. Her sketches and tech specs made reality. Lyante fished the sheet with the overview of features from the stack, finding all of her wished checked…and a bunch of other things added.
“My word,” Lyante said, “you have been busy.” She gave the woman an approving smile, and patiently waited for the engineer to present her work, not about to break the cardinal rule of never touching an engineer’s work before said engineer let you. But even without touching it, she could already see the careful detail and creative genius that constituted this eye. She couldn’t wait to pop it in, but knew better than to connect to strange tech in a garage where no one could see what was going on and where no one would miss her. But that’s what the spider robot was for; he’d run an entire diagnostic of the eye, telling Lyante all she needed to know before trying it out.
“So, let’s see what your genius has wrought.”

Her client came in thankfully enough and it was that instance that the garage door shut for them. Heather turned, letting herself step out of the way for Lyante to get a good look at her finished piece. She seemed a bit excited for what the woman would think, bracing herself for the bountiful of compliments that would be sure to come. Unless she was hard to please, then that would be a total buzzkill for the moment.
Fortunately enough for Heather, her client seemed to approve, based on that smile. A smile of satisfaction, she assumed, and she returned it with her grin. It was like a switch was flipped on the moment that Lyante even dared to refer her as a genius. Switching off her goggles and taking her glasses out of her pocket, Heather smirked widely.
"And my genius did bring something wonderful. You got your night vision, ability to see the electromagnetic spectrum of frequencies from electromagnetic radiation. Additionally it's able to give an estimate of how much an object can emit or absorb electromagnetic radiation."
As she spoke, Heather lost in her train of thought, started pacing in circles, waving her finger around excitedly.
"And of course, you're able to do some basic hacking. Though if you want anything more, you'll have to go to someone else for that. The eye is compatible enough to be worked with a few upgrades, though I would avoid trying to spruce it up too much otherwise you'll fry it."
Before Lyante could even say otherwise, the gearhead strolled up, grabbing her by the shoulders excitedly.
"BUT. I also added in some extra things. Small stuff! But, you have the ability to change your own eye color and you can switch to reticle mode, where you can better aim at someone with that gun of your's! But I also made you driver to calibrate with your NUIP. It's water-proof too, so you can clean it at least once every two weeks no problem."
And finally, as she grew more and more excitable by the moment, Heather let the woman go, taking a couple steps closer to the floating eye and gesturing to it eagerly. "Go on, you can hold it! Try it if you even want to, once it's calibrated! Tell me what you think! I want ALL the deets of what you're thinking!"

Lyante would be amused by the pacing engineer in front of her, waving her finger, nearly tripping over her words as she spoke if she wasn’t so damn impressed. Sure she knew that it would be possible to put that many features into such a small package, but it would have taken her weeks to figure out placement, let alone beginning to know where to start with the coding.
Lyante’s grin now occupied the lower half of her face as Heather stepped aside, the universal signal between scientists to let the other judge their work more closely. “It looks beautiful…” Lyante gasped, nearly forgetting her precautions. Just before disturbing the field the eye was floating in, Lyante set her hand on the table instead. From her pocket, the sleek robotic robot crawled up her side, over her shoulder and down her arm to approach the eye.
“Can’t be too careful,” Lyante smiled, meaning no offense. Besides, as savvy as this engineer was in the ways of Novus, she hardly thought it would come across as such. After the spider did its initial scan, Lyante carefully grabbed the eye from the field, connecting it with the spider, who let her know everything checked out.
Nearly shaking with anticipation, Lyante grabbed a small cloth and container from her pocket. Pouring the liquid on the cloth, she began polishing the eye. Its perfectly smooth surface clean, Lyante let out a big sigh, once again letting the goggles slide down her head, resting it on her collarbone as she connected the eye with her extension port. It took a moment to calibrate, imprinting Lyante’s NUIP as its master. When it was done, Lyante disconnected it, closed the port and gave the eye another polish.
“It’s been so long,” Lyante softly said, more to herself than to anyone else. Almost ceremoniously, she swept her bang away, pinning it back with a rather childish looking bobby pin. The pin was small and looked old, the decorative star had since long lost its luster and color, and looked worn out. Turning away suddenly, as if she had just realized Heather was still there, Lyante slid the eye into its socket. Closing her eyes, for a few seconds, she opened them back up, staring at herself in the small mirror on the garage’s wall.
Momentarily losing her composure, tears welled up from her eyes. “I can finally wear my hair back again…” she stuttered in amazement, exclaiming the first thing she could think of. Her field of view suddenly doubling, she was a little disoriented and the blurred vision due to her tears wasn’t helping much either.
A minute passed with Lyante in front of the mirror, staring at the side of her face she rarely saw. Tears stopped and turned into a smile as she ran through the color program, changing her eye color for a while. “Thank you,” Lyante said as she turned around. They were the two most sincere words she had spoken in a long time.
Regaining her composure, she gave Heather a more mischievous smile as she took out her gun. Her other hand fished something out of her pocket that she flicked up in the air, away from her, vaporizing it seconds later with the gun. “That reticle mode is quite ingenious,” she smiled, holstering her gun again.
Lyante briefly went through the other modes, more and more impressed with what this woman had done in such a little time. “Color me impressed,” Lyante addressed Heather while changing the eye color, knowing the shopkeeper appreciated a pun now and then. “It’s a work of beauty,” she continued, “I don’t think I…anybody could have done it better.”
“The reticle mode is quite impressive…could there be a possibility to have the eye overlay my sight with other information as well? Maybe if I connect with another more…spruced up gear, like my goggles?”

There was no offense taken when Lyante inspected her work, Heather didn't expect anything less to be perfectly honest. With how people were these days, blindly(hah) taking someone's word was a good way to get yourself in a crapton of trouble. It seemed though that everything checked out like it should with the little spider bot(HNNNNNNNNNNNGH) and thus Lyante. Just as eager as the one-eyed woman, Heather also began to shake with anticipation, her hands clenched into fists. There was always something about seeing one's work... at work. Within the timeframe she was given, she was proud of what she had done and now all that was left was her client's approval.
Oh boy though, Heather definitely did get that approval. Once that eye was in, Lyante was a sight to see. Her client had been far from emotionless, but this seemed like a rare occasion that she would break into tears. The tears through Heather off, unsure if she should be excited or worried. People crying wasn't her forte. It consisted of awkward pats or 'SO LOOK AT THIS THING I DID' to make them feel better, which understandably didn't work at all.
Luckily though that smile showed itself and the gearhead relaxed, her arms folding and resting against one of the pillars in her shop. The reticle mode worked fine, just as Heather hoped it would. The eye color program also worked flawlessly, though that was hardly a surprise for her. She grinned in response to Lyante's pun, adjusting her glasses.
"I gotta say, I don't think anyone else could either within a week timeframe. It's definitely a work of art that I'm proud of," Heather said, her grin only growing wider at Lyante's question. "And of course it can! Your eye isn't like most boring people's eyes, it's functional and can connect with your goggles. Well, I'm assuming if your goggles are connected to your NUIP. Your NUIP is important too, by the way. It'll help gauge how your eye is doing. It also will be able to help see what basic programs can go with the eye too. Just remember, don't go crazy with adapting it or you'll be visiting me for repairs."
