Levenin smiled sadly, continuing on his work as he was too close to finishing to really draw himself away from it. It didn’t seem to be medical shock, at least. Just the normal effects of bleeding out of one’s abdomen for an extended time. He wondered if he shouldn’t have given Riku the painkiller anyway and lied about what it was as the other man sat in hidden discomfort. Oh well, not like he was the first person to pretend something didn’t hurt. Some were prideful like that and it was none of Lev’s business.
”Oh, umm… Do I really look that young?” he asked meekly, pausing in the middle of a stroke.
He never thought about his own face too often but Levenin supposed he looked younger than his actual age. Appropriate for being the youngest (well, second youngest) around here. The fact he had a talent for attracting impressionable teenagers like flies to honey time and time again always made him feel like an elder. Six to seven years made a world of difference in maturity and experiences, after all, and his existence had certainly been an interesting one so far.
”It’s not really something I tell people. My age, I mean. They might have… concerns. And I don’t blame them.” Levenin kept his voice to a whisper just in case somebody was eavesdropping. Not that he’d been forbidden from the subject but Cyrene in particular would have a stern word with him if she overheard. ”I’ve learned a lot more since being here but I still have a long way to go. When I started, I couldn’t even look at a needle without feeling sick.”
Yes, the best thing to admit to while literally sewing a gaping wound together.
”To be honest… I never finished my education. It’s a long story but I’m not licensed. The other doctors here kinda took me in and they’re like my teachers. I only do the small things, though. I think the slums is the only place I could get away with doing what I do.
“It’s no one’s fault but my own that I never finished school. Lucca, he’s my age… Oh, he’s one of the other doctors. The one in the glasses. He actually did get a degree. Not sure about a practicing license but he’s much more qualified than me. He’s a smart guy.”
School, studies, and the High Class all seemed so far away now, almost like a dream he’d had instead of something Lev had at one point experienced. A time before leaking roofs and sweltering summers— Levenin missed it dearly.
”Umm, maybe don’t spread that around. People might get upset, you know?”
