Oh boy, he was looking at her waiting for her to take the first bite, wasn't he? Wasn't her enthusiasm when he finally opened up the box to show her what really was a pizza already enough? She guessed not. She let out a forced laugh, she could feel her hands sweating. She can't let him see her hands. She won't let him see her hands! "I uh..." she mumbled, her tail tapping the bench behind her.
"Oh!" Her tail! Bikini used her tail for everything, all in itself it's like a third limb to her. Smiling, she got up and ran down the hill to the water fountain and washed her tail off, then running back she sat back down, placing her hands in between her legs to hold her upright as she leaned in more over the pizza, her tail snaking from the back of her and slipping under a slice. The pizza was sure to be burning hot still, but her tail is full of tough skin it wasn't painful to her. With amazing grace she managed to pick the slice up with her tail, granted it's almost folded into a U but she was holding it with her tail. She smiled big and took her first bite, in which she let out a very unintentional moan of delight.
"Mmmm~! Oh Dante, this really is good!" She said wolfing down her first slice and going for another. Even the delicious taste revived her monster appetite, "This is probably the best food I've ever tasted!"

A thick blush crossed Dante’s cheeks, burning him. He looked away from Bikini, muttering, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to stare. I just…” He felt his arms shake a little, and he gulped down his guilt as best he could. But before he could apologize any more, Bikini’s face lit up, and she suddenly rose from the bench and ran down the hill. “Ah!” Dante gasped and stood up. “Bikini! Wait!” He held out his hand, as if he could somehow call her back or reach for her all the way at the bottom of the hill. But, again, Bikini wiped away his concern in seconds when she washed her tail and ran back up the hill. Now, instead of being worried, he was simply confused.
Dante sat back down and watched as Bikini used her tail to eat her pizza. His eyes widened with surprise, and he was so entranced with her display that he didn’t notice cheese and pepperoni slide off his greasy pizza and land on his pants. He just watched her, smiling wide when she moaned and spoke.
“I knew you’d like it,” he said, fully relieved now. “It’s amazing, right?” Bikini kept praising it, and she grabbed another piece, devouring it in seconds. Dante bit into his slice and watched Bikini fall in love with pizza the same way he had. He stayed quiet about how much she was eating. She was probably starving, and she deserved to eat as much as she wanted. She could eat the whole thing for all he cared, and he wouldn’t say anything.
And to keep her mind off how much she was eating, Dante tried to distract her by saying, “So hey, once we’re done eating, I was thinking maybe we could go to the circus my brother works at. They know me, so they’ll let us in to look around. We could even check out their animals. Does that sound cool?”

Bikini did in fact eat a lot of pizza. As careless as she was, she was also a small little girl, and her shrunken stomach from ages of not eating proper amounts she could only devour half. Half was fair to say at least... but yes, Dante was lucky she could only eat half. When Bikini finished she sighed in pleasure and patted her tummy, setting her tail down finally. "That was... the best meal in the world. You were right." She giggled, enjoying the warm oily after taste.
Bikini nodded and smiled, "I like the circus," she replied, somehow she knew what that was. She never went to one or seen one preform in the slums, but somehow it was a word on her vocabulary. "Your brother is as graceful as you moving?" she smiled, being interested in Dante's personal life. "I bet he is, comparing to you." She complimented, nodding.
The noon went by so fast it seemed, between waiting for pizza and eating it, and hour or so had passed in the park, and so did Bikini and Dante. Bikini got up and hopped at Dante, "So where is your brother's circus? Is there a petting zoo?" Bikini blushed, hiding her lips with her sleeve again, "I... I like looking at them, not touching them." she admitted, thought it seemed it had a hint of sad to it.

“As graceful?” asked Dante, scratching his jaw as he thought it over, occasionally biting into his pizza. Without realizing it, he spoke with a half-full mouth, saying, “Well, I mean he’s super graceful and stuff. He’s an acrobat—like the best there is—but he doesn’t really dance or anything. He says he doesn’t have any rhythm, but I think he’s just embarrassed to dance or something like that.” He chuckled, starting on his second slice while Bikini scarfed down her third.
Once the pizza was gone and the two were ready to head out, Dante pointed toward east and said, “It’s a big red and white tent in a park about five blocks from here.” He was about to explain more, but he saw Bikini hide her face, looking embarrassed as she admitted that she didn’t like touching animals. Huh. Wonder why. With a mental shrug, Dante assured her, “Don’t worry, it’s not a petting zoo. Besides, I think if we tried to pet some of the animals, we’d get our hands bitten off.”
Dante decided to leave that last part unexplained as he led Bikini down the hill, out of the park, and through the city streets. It took a few minutes to reach the other park, but once they did, it was easy to see the circus tent through the trees. The flaps to the tent were all closed, and there was a sign at the entrance reading “Practice in Session.” Luckily for Dante, that sign had never applied to him. He pulled one of the flaps back and slipped inside first, letting Bikini follow after him so no one would throw her out. A few of the performers waved to him as he led Bikini toward the one and only ring of the circus. And once they were at the edge of the ring, Dante stepped to the side and gestured to the whole circus, inviting Bikini to take it all in.
The circus had only one ring and only one steel beam in the center that held up the entire tent. The beam was wide, and about ten feet up there was a large net that stemmed out from the beam in every direction. Floating anchors hovered in the air, holding up the net while the acrobats practiced up above. Because there was only one beam, there wasn’t traditional trapeze. Instead, there was a circular wooden platform near the top of the beam, and there were four trapezes mounted to the actual tent itself, all of which were on pivots. The acrobats were able to fly in circles around the ring and over the stands—the latter of which always got the crowd cheering.
Down below—along the sandy floor of the ring—was all sorts of equipment for gymnastics, animal acts, fire dancing, and so much more. Dante looked up at the trapeze artists, then down to the gymnastics equipment, but he couldn’t see Isaac anywhere. “Huh, I guess my brother’s skipping practice today. Oh well. I’ll introduce you to him another time. Anyway, what do you think of the place? Pretty cool, right?”

Bikini followed Dante to the circus his brother Isaac performed at, the lazy friendly toots and whistles of mechanical beings and one-cyborg-bands playing about getting passerby's attention. And it sure lured Bikini in with a familiar fascination. Everything seemed rather familiar, and yet it was all new to her. She couldn't quiet put her finger on it... but the term caravan performers came to mind.
Bikini thought it was end of the line when they came upon a sign that didn't permit access to the tent Isaac was supposed to be in, which was the biggest tent there, but her wings perked up when Dante was so willing to go in and let her in first as he held up the tent's flap. Dante is sooooooooo cool, Bikini thought, giggling as she pranced right in.
The sight was amazing. It looks a lot bigger inside than it did outside, the various ground routines and net routines up in the nets above was all eye candy to Bikini, her wings opened wide in astonishment, and kept like that was she twirled about the busy carnies and performers, unable to look at one show for long before another practice session caught her attention. "This is amazing..." she said, looking back to Dante and fluttering back to him. "And you get to see this all the time? Whenever you want?" She smiled big, her expression that of a child in a toy store or a candy store. "It's a shame your brother's not here, but this is also great." She giggled, now seeing everything in the tent she was transfixed to the people dancing on the ropes and nets above. This felt really familiar. And for a moment while watching them, she envisioned a field of wooden poles all evenly spaced out a yard from each other, and this-- dragon thing, with rainbow wings and bright scales dance upon them gracefully above her, leaping from pole to pole in powerful strides-- but she could only envision that for a few seconds before she saw the acrobats practicing in the nets again. She blinked and rubbed her eyes with her sleeves, she herself fell quiet after seeing what she saw. It was that dream again.
"So cool." She responded after a long moment of being silent, looking back to Dante, forgetting the vision.

“Yup,” said Dante with a bright smile, his hands behind his head as he leaned on air, excited to see Bikini so interested in the circus. “My brother Isaac gets three free tickets for every show, too. I’ve been the only one to use them so far, but I’m positive he’d give you a freebie if I asked him. Maybe you can come see a show sometime. The stuff they do is incredible. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ringmaster loves to remind everybody that the acrobats don’t have any gene mods. All of their crazy stunts are one hundred percent real and unmodded, my brother’s included.”
By the time Dante finished talking, Bikini spoke up, and he had no idea that she had spaced out. His attention had been on the trapeze artists and his own words, so he merely thought she was responding to him. “I know, right? I can’t wait to show it to you.”
Dante then waved for Bikini to follow him as he headed toward the back of the tent. He opened up the flap leading out to the park. Once the two were back outside, they stood just a few meters away from large animal cages. The cages were more like wagons, though. They were on wheels and they had steel shutter doors along the sides that hid the animals from sight—lest they be bothered by people walking around the park. The shutter doors were painted purple and gold, but there were also some graffiti marks along a few of them from that rainbow-haired girl that Dante and Isaac had chased down the other day. Now that Dante saw them, he had to admit they were really cool designs—illegal, but still cool.
One of the animal tamers stood by the lion cage, so Bikini could see the lion behind bars, having just been returned after practice. At Dante’s request, the tamer kept the shutter doors open so Bikini could see the lion a little longer.

Bikini followed Dante outside again, to see big wagons that had bars that revealed that they contained animals-- not gene sliced, but traditional, pure bred lions and tigers, and she thought she saw a bear. This made Bikini giggle as she saw the ferocious beasts rest for the day, and Dante particularly had the lion out for her to still look at without the door bars in front of him. He was majestic looking. Full thick mane, and toned muscles she could tell under that shimmering coat. For a low class circus they kept their animals in good shape as they can.
"He's so awesome!" she giggled and waved at him a little, "and so cute and handsome." The Lion seemed to just stare at her, too tired to really interact with the spliced girl and laid down, yawning big before resting his head down. Bikini giggled and her excitement hushed down as the lion rested, "Silly lion."
Soon she was done watching the animals and it was time to do something else. Bikini fluttered next to Dante and tugged at his shirt a little, "Is there anything else amazing in this circus to show me?" her eyes big and glittering like warm sapphires. She didn't notice she was being too use to Dante taht she was using her ahnds to get his attention, and even almost trying to hold it as well, the excitement of seeing more only stopping her from really trying to hold his hand to have him guide her around.

Though he didn't realize it himself, Dante had noticed that Bikini had been reaching for his hands lately. Dante's fingers twitched, wanting to meet her halfway and hold her hand, but she always stopped short, so he backed off. It was subconscious, really, as both of them were too focused on what was happening now, on the animals that the tamer showed them, opening the shutters to reveal the tigers, bears, seals, and a single elephant.
When Bikini asked to see more, Dante threw his hands behind his head again and let his eyes drift around, searching his brain. "Hmm. There's a lot, really, but I don't want to spoil any of it in case you come to a show." There had to be something he could still show her, though. No ordinary guest would get to see the performers practicing or all of the animals up close. Was there anything else he could show her that would be unique?
An idea suddenly hit Dante, and he smiled wide. "I know just the thing. Come on." He thought to bring Bikini up to the top of the beam, to the wooden platform where the acrobats started their shows. She would get to see the whole circus from up there.
And without thinking, Dante reached to grab Bikini's hand, not stopping this time. Somewhere in his mind, he thought it was okay to lead her, and his fingers started to curl around her sleeve.

Bikini was so excited she didn't notice everything until it was too late.
While Dante was thinking, Bikini just kept skipping along in lazy circles around him, so happy she was here. With him. These has been a ray of sun, a colorful blot of paint on her concrete grays of the canvas she called her own life. Other life without her had their own canvas painted before them, finished and sprayed with a matte of destiny and fate. But hers always felt like a unfinished painting, the acrylic chipping off back to just a blank slate. But now with this boy who she called her friend, it seems like it's being repainted to something she can like. She'd want to follow him more, see what they can paint.
Or so what she was feeling, until.
Until that happened.
Dante came to her, out of excitement to take her where he wanted his hand curled around hers, the things she so desperately tried to keep secret from him. In an instant she snapped back to the here and now and tried to slip out of his hand. "Don't--!" she cried out. But it was too late. Dante's hand exposed her hand from her baggy sleeves-- even if it was just a little-- and Bikini reacted badly. She pulled away to quick and too hard, her hands had cut Dante's hand real good.
Bikini saw the flash of red on his hand when she backed away, her own hand had a speck of it too. She kept backing up step by step, shaking her head at Dante. How could he? What have he done? It's been spoiled now. What have she done? Tears formed in her eyes, afraid of him now. How could she be so stupid?
She couldn't say anything, all she knew she needed to run again. And so she did. She ran out of there, anywhere. She ran out of the tent and looked around, trying to find somewhere to hide. She couldn't face him again. Running was hard when you're faced by many people in the way, performers and circus go-ers alike, she went this way and that, not knowing what all the attraction were, words and titles above them she couldn't read. They all looked inviting, and then as she finally got out of the crowd she ran into one dark looking tent.
As she went inside, she closed her eyes and wiped them from her tears, only to open them to see-- herself. Herselves, actually. She was confused, maddened and scared, not realizing she went into a house of mirrors. At that moment of looking all round her her own self looking back just as scared, it was just a painful reminder of how she saw herself. As a scared, dangerous monster. She wasn't good be part of society, who was she fooling. She ran more into the house of mirrors to find a way out, but with all her efforts she couldn't run away from herself. Out of blind anger and frustration she lashed out at one of the mirrors, her hands exposed to destroy it-- only to stop when she realized it was no use of fighting back her own feelings. She shrank down on her knees and threw her arms on the ground, crying. And she finally made a friend, too. What a fool she has been.

"Huh?" Dante heard Bikini's plea too late. When she jerked her hand out of his grasp, Dante felt a sharp pain shoot across his palm. "Agh!" He hunched forward, curling in on his hand as he pulled it into his stomach. His hand felt hot and wet, and it seared with pain. Blood poured out of a deep wound, and Dante winced, looking down at his hand to see the harsh, jagged gash. With weak jitters of his body, he looked up at Bikini, to see her blood-stained claw and the look of horror on her face.
She turned and ran away, darting past the animal cages and rushing through the park. "Bikini!" called Dante, his voice cracking. "Wait! Come back!"
Blood dripped out of his clenched fist and onto the ground. Dante watched as Bikini moved so fast, disappearing across the park in seconds. He ran after her, calling, "Bikini! I'm not mad. Come back, please! Biki—nngh!" Dante suddenly fell to his knees, agony ripping across his stomach and up his chest. His bloody fist pressed hard against the ground while his free hand held his aching stomach, his fractured rib. He could feel the bone shift around inside, threatening to break off and really light his body on fire.
By the time the pain settled, Dante looked back up, but he couldn't see Bikini anywhere. He had no idea which direction she had gone or if she was still in the park at all.
Tears welled up in Dante's eyes. What had he done? This was all his fault. It was all his fault, and no one could make him believe otherwise. The tears trickled down his face, and his body trembled. He couldn't even feel the pain in his hand and stomach anymore. He just rose to his feet and slowly wandered around the park, calling Bikini's name.
Dante searched every inch of the park, but he couldn't find her. She never answered his call, not once all day. And as the sun set, Dante sat down by the fountain, his hand covered in dried blood, his face slick with tears.
END
