Ellie had a point, to be fair. A self admitted Scavenger, even more illegal than seasoned criminals like themselves, and yet he wanted to help the poor little guy anyway. Lev did cringe visibly at the mention of the gloves again, though. Those couldn’t have been cheap to make. His stomach growled sadly, knowing that future meals had just been taken from it due to his own stupidity. As if this was the first time, but it still hurt all the same.
However, despite her protests, Levenin grinned when she seemed to comply in that way only Ellie could (which was a yes with a world’s worth of reluctance and anger behind it). ”See? She said it’s okay!” said Levenin, his excitement growing like a child having gained approval from his mother. He began tugging at the other man’s arm to follow along. ”I promise it won’t take too long! You’ll be home in no time.”
Why was he being so persistent? Anyone could see their charity project didn’t want their company in the slightest. But Lev was a doctor, or at least wanted to be. It could’ve been the accidental electrocution still working its magic, but the tubby man had a twitch that just wouldn’t quit. And Levenin had seen enough Magix withdrawal patients to know something was starting up with this one. It’d be irresponsible to leave his new “patient” to fend for himself in the Slums.
Lev glanced back at Ellie, taking an uncomfortably long look at the tools she was still holding. ”Let’s, uh… give those back in a little bit…” A scalpel was no threat. But who knew what else he had hidden inside that wrap of cloth? He continued to drag their newfound tagalong, ignoring the glares from both.
"Do you have a name? I mean, of course you do, but uhh..."

Ellie reached to snag Levenin by the hood, dragging him back to walk beside her as she kept hold on the tweaker's supplies. She didn't trust the guy as far as she could throw him, even with her strength. Magic was a weapon of weaklings who liked to fight dirty; not that she was the cleanest of fighters herself, but still. She'd rather let him walk a safe enough distance away than risk him attacking. "I'll keep your shit, till you get to where we're going. Don't want you getting any ideas."
She could handle herself perfectly well, and while Lev was getting slightly less incompetent all the time, there was no need for unnecessary risks. If things went sour with this guy, she'd much rather handle it herself. Lev was shaping up as a decent thief but he was still too nice for his own good. Kid would get himself killed for a smile and a friendly word.
"We won't force you to take us right to your door." She called to the fat magic user. It'd be stupid to think he'd show them to their door. Hell, Lev hadn't known where she lived for three months after they started doing jobs together. And she didn't know where he lived, though that was more due to her not caring. Lev had shit at his place he didn't want her seeing so it was easier to plan and meet up at her place or his clinic. "Just close enough for my dumbass friend here to know you're not gonna get mugged or shot by someone other than us."

"Fair enough." Nickolas scoffed at their refusal to give back his supplies, at least in that moment anyway. But the prospect that they would give them back eased him if only a little. He winced out of surprise when the man took his arm and tugged on it expectantly. If his friend hadn't been there eyeing him up like she was going to roll his dead ass into a river he'd probably would have socked him. Gently, by which actually rather forcefully he tugged himself out of the helpful grip and flexed his fingers to stave off the still lingering tingles from the shock earlier. He considered the question a moment. 'Do you have a name?' He had a few aliases under his sleeve and in response gave his simplest.
"You can just call me 'Soup', I guess. And don't you say a damn word about how 'strange' it is." He finger quoted the air and snorted. "It's more or less a shorthand."
With that Nick shouldered his bag and turned, taking some rather wobbly steps down the alley. Keeping upright took a bit more concentration than usual and he silently wished he could at least take off his mask to ease his breathing. The thick metal was starting to become stuffy but the fact he had to keep himself hidden from them was an annoyance he'd have to deal with.
"Oh, so you had that in mind too hmm?" His voice sounded amused as it echoed out of his mask. It figured she would be damn smart. She was a criminal after all. "So...How far would you consider far enough?"

Levenin nodded at Ellie’s sentiments. He wouldn’t go as far as to track down the guy’s very home. It was creepy, but more importantly the Slums had a code to follow. Exposing one’s living space was akin to unearthing their secret base of operations, in a way. What precious things they had were kept within, and with the amount of petty crime that went on in this part of Novus, remaining a secret was crucial to hanging onto them. Lev didn’t want to snoop too badly. If he did, Ellie would surely chastise him again for wanting to pry even more than he already had. Knowing their luck, Soup's home was just a cover for some Vigilante gang that'd jump the both of them. Now Levenin remembered how scary the Slums were outside of the clinic setting.
”I promise you’ll get your things back, no questions asked. Evrika is actually really nice once you get on her good side,” he said, trying to be reassuring. Probably impossible to do with a Slum dweller. He found they tended to be very distrusting, and rightfully so. However, that wouldn’t stop Lev from letting go of this man's sleeve just yet.
He giggled at the code name, though. ”So, uh, you know she’s Evrika. I’m Nineveh.”
Levenin was still wobbly himself but he worried more about Soup’s unstable walking as they slipped out of the back alleyway. Ellie seemed to have zero interest in assisting either of them as she held tightly onto whatever weapons. That was fine, as Soup was Lev’s patient anyway. He wasn’t sure why he felt so giddy about this as they traveled the road. It was almost like a house call. The only other patch up jobs he performed outside of Canaan were the various scrapes Ellie gave herself after every mission, so this was a rarity.
”What do you say, Evrika? Maybe like… within the same block or so? I think that’d be close enough without us barging in on your privacy. I’d feel good with that, unless we, uh, need to carry you in or something.”
What was he even saying? Depending on how far this place was, Lev would need someone to tote him around after this walking. However, it was hard to tell how long Soup would hold out for with the mask hiding his face.

'We' carrying him translated to Ellie's ears as her carrying him. Lev could barely lift a sack of flour, let alone a human being 'Soup's size. She rolled her eyes. She'd rather leave the guy to rot in the streets. His own fault for getting on her bad side by trying to slice up Lev.
She didn't like Scavengers, magic users even less. Scavengers were parasites that too often got linked with Vigilantes for her taste. Where Vigilantes, at least ones like her, were working with the primary goal being to help the city's people, Scavengers were out for themselves at the end of it all. And magic was just for those too lazy to actually develop a skill.
She grabbed Lev's shoulder, forcing him to stop. "No further without you telling us where we're taking you. I don't like going anywhere blind." She let her eye switch to heat sig mode and swept it around the area. Some outlines of people could be seen through the thinner walls of some of the homes around them, but most appeared to be sleeping. It was late after all. "So, you can tell us and we'll take you and give you your shit back, or we split here and I keep it."

Nickolas stopped himself from letting out the loudest groan of irritation ever. He just wanted to go home, that was all. He would have ditched them himself the moment this whole thing headed south, but this 'Evrika' chick had her mitts on several months worth of hard earned equipment. He did understand her paranoia though; they were in the seedier parts of the slums and honestly he was just as suspicious of their true motives as they were of him. His shoulders slumped and he stopped, turning rather sluggishly and gesturing back the way he had been facing before.
"It's a few blocks down this way, not too far. If you're worried about having to drag my ass inside, don't even consider it. I've been in way worse shape than this and made it back just fine plenty of times by myself."
He watched the way Ellie's eyes darted about and flicked his ears to listen in on anything happening around them but nothing gave way to any sign of life other than their own. "You're worried this is just some set up for an ambush, right? There's no one out here, you're fine." Nick gave a bit of a laugh. "If I had been pulling you two along in some scheme, don't you think it would have happened by now? I mean your friend there did electrocute me and no one swooped out of the dark. It's just you and me."
Nick eyed Levenin up before crossing his arms. "Kid you're too nice, listen to your friend here, she's a smart cookie."

”Ohhh, be nice, Ev!” he protested, kindly removing her hand from his shoulder and leaning down near Soup to show him off like a class project. ”Even if he does anything funny, there’s two of us. What’s he gonna do?”
Levenin smiled as he did his own scan of their quaint neighborhood. Though he couldn’t see as in-depth detail as Ellie, his eyes foretold of no immediate danger. An ambush would be risky with their group anyway, with three people to keep track of. Not like they’d know Soup was slightly out of commission, but that was why the two of them were here right now. Levenin, a bodyguard… So this is what Ellie felt like on her non-theft jobs. Lev had to admit that it made him feel important.
He gave the dark bat hybrid a loving pat on the shoulder, lips still beaming. ”I’m not saying she’s not right to be suspicious, but I don’t think you’re gonna do anything malicious now or you would've tried already. You said it yourself, didn’t you? And she has your stuff and it’s two versus one.”
Lev stood straight and tall before fiddling around with his hood and earring. Suddenly, he felt like being a bit underhanded. His smile slowly weakened into more of a smirk. ”You’re not in any position to say no... So you’d better come with us quietly or else, okay? Okay, then! Let’s go!”
Ellie had expressed her reluctance but Lev knew her well enough. Once she agreed to something, her cooperation was generally sealed. He supposed it was a trade off for the fact he never had a say in the vast majority of her demands. Besides, what could a little man like this pull off? Probably not anything worse than a gun fight and nearly bleeding to death.
And really, Levenin did trust this stranger, as silly as it sounded. Everything earlier was just a misunderstanding, and one he could empathize with. A living was a living and the Slums didn't discriminate. Before any other complaints could erupt, he grabbed Soup by the arm and tugged him along. Checking the alleyway corner and marching forward, he asked, ”Okay, a few blocks... Right or left?”

"Oh my fucking god, Nin, stop fucking touching him." Ellie grabbed him again and jerked him back next to her. "Remember the talk we had about personal space? And that's with me and I sometimes find you tolerable. We're walking him home, you get to play good guy, now stop being a shit." This whole thing was giving her a headache. Bad enough they were going to be late for their job, if they even had time enough to do it tonight after this. That meant lost money on top of her gloves being ruined and being forced to share space with a damn Scavenger of all things.
"You're assuming I think you or your friends are smart. I'll believe you're not up to shit once we're a good distance away from you." She sniffed, keeping her hold on the back of Lev's shirt in case he tried to throw himself at their oh-so-grateful friend here.

If Ellie could see the look on his face it would be genuine, sincere thanks. As nice and "helpful" her friend was being, he just wasn't taking the hint that Nick did not want him hanging all over him. He was unsteady enough on his own, if he was going to fall at any time then nothing short of a miracle would save either of them. He was several sizes wider than Levenin and would take him down with him to the street, possibly crushing him as well. And his cheeky attitude was not helping his case of being the impromptu good Samaritan of the hour.
"Alright, look. I get it, you're trying to help me and I appreciate that, I guess. But since you---Can't. Take. A. Hint." He punctuated each word with a light jab at the other man's chest. "And you won't listen to her, who mind you would be saving your scrawny ass from a quick death at any other time. STOP TOUCHING ME."
The threat was a little baseless, looking like a wobbily, exhausted mess. "Since we've hopefully got that out of the way, we should head to the left."

Levenin frowned and quietly rubbed at the spot where Soup had so roughly jabbed him. ”Okay okay… Please let go,” he sighed, pulling away from Ellie’s rough grasp on the fabric of his cape before readjusting the hood.
Now they were both against him. Honestly, he felt a little betrayed. All he wanted to do was help, to make sure their man didn’t trip over his own wobbly knees and collapse to the ground again. Oh well, if Soup did tumble down, then he’d surely approve of getting touched if it meant helping him out of the dirt. If it really came down to the wire, that’s why Ellie was here— for the muscle, because Lev sure didn’t have any. Although with the way she was eyeing the bat kid, she was more apt to throw him halfway across the Slums.
With nowhere to hide his hands, Lev thumbed at his wristbands nervously before taking the lead; Ellie definitely wasn’t going to be the leader of their merry band of men (and one lady). Besides, the two of them actually did have a job to do tonight so it was better to quell her temper by resuming the mission as soon as possible. However, the prospect of their theft wasn't more exciting than a chance at some insider information. Scavengers were a rare breed, seeing as how they were incredibly illegal.
”So, uh…” Levenin really needed to ask. ”I-I don’t wanna make assumptions or anything but uh… Were you gonna take my kidneys or something? What’s the black market like for that kinda stuff? How much is a full body harvest worth?”
He couldn’t help himself. It wasn’t exactly medical care but organs were enough. Canaan wasn't a stranger to "appropriated" body parts anyway.
