It was barely even a compliment, really, and yet for some reason Ellie felt her neck getting hot under her collar. She was smiling too much, wasn't she? Good lord what was wrong with her tonight? Maybe she'd been poisoned. Yeah. Probably that. She'd have Lev check her out when she got home. With any luck she'd be dying and would never have to deal with the fact that she was being so stupidly embarrassing.
"Mostly just, um, seeing. It also shows heat signatures, if I switch the setting." She made sure to leave out the facial tagging part of it; that wasn't entirely on the legal side of things that mods should be able to do. Now would not be a good time to brag about being a criminal.
She cleared her throat. "Deeper? So like...genetics? Are you a splicer doctor or...?" please let her not be a cosmetic doctor if she was a splicer. Cosmetic splices always struck a sour note in her; not as much as magic users or scavengers, but enough to leave a bad taste on her tongue.

"Aha, thermal imaging. That's a handy one to have, good for your line of work as well." Ellie's smiling was almost infectious, Lora's own grin was alight with interest. "It'd be a wonder to see what you see, but modifications don't typically work like that."
'Splicer doctor'? Is that what they were being called now? She chuckled a bit and opened her mouth, rubbing a thumb over one of her canines in her own version of show and tell. Though not very sharp looking, they were definitely more pronounced than a typical set a human would have.
"Genetics would be correct. Splicing is a small part of it, yes. Not as fancy and not always as nice looking as tech mods, but I like to help people with what I have. I'm actually proficient in working with mammal DNA more than anything else and use my skills to offer my patients opportunities to either heal or better themselves. I just really like seeing people happy with themselves and consider it an honor that I play a role in that."

Ellie immediately had thoughts of having a camera installed in her eye; something so she could take pictures while on a mission. That would be very useful for theft jobs and scoping out areas ahead of time. Things to look into later. Maybe see if Soup knew someone or had...acquired something lack that in recent jobs. With that she could maybe take pictures of her thermal mapping vision. For reference. Not for the buff beautiful doctor. Nope.
Healing or bettering themselves...that didn't sound as stupidly gratuitous as 'because it looked cool' as far as mods went. Ellie was in full support of splices if it served an actual function. She'd actually considered a few herself to improve some senses or her basic strength, opting not to mostly out of pride in achieving things on her own. Well, as 'on her own' as she could given how she was brought into the world. The only reason she had her eye modded was due to needing to have it reconstructed anyway due to injury.
"At least you're doing something good with your smarts, not just raking in money on it. Something noble about that, you know."

"I wouldn't say the money isn't a definite plus to the whole thing. It funds my research and job necessities. But thank you." Lora hummed to herself. Speaking of work, her little night on the town would cost her some free time, double duty the following night would need to be handled and she'd been shut away in her lab for a few days now. The force would probably be checking in on a status report in another day or so.
A distraction from her piling up work came in the form of a passing waiter. Quickly taking up two champagne flutes, she offered one to Ellie, twirling the stem in a 'Here you go' kind of flourish. She didn't even know if her conversation partner drank, but it didn't hurt to offer.
"If you'd like, I could show you my lab or my office, though the latter can be a bit dull. Your standard walk-in client type of set up, y'know?"

Ellie placed her empty wine glass on the passing waiter's tray before accepting the champagne glass with a grateful smile. While she was used to drinking much harder stuff, the four glasses of wine she'd had before Miss Big, Buff, and Beautiful showed up plus this would at least add up to a buzz. She was tempted to just down the whole thing but that would probably come off as less than classy. And she wanted to seem classy, for some reason. Was even regretting, just a little bit, not actually dressing up for tonight. A pair of heels and a few extra inches would be very helpful right now.
"I'm sure you'd find a way to make a tour interesting." She tried to be flirty but the line lacked the normal confidence she had when trying to talk her way up a skirt. Ended up coming off more as a genuine interest. Which she was, interested that is. It would nice to see a genetics lab, maybe see if she could scope out some useful information. "But for tonight, what do you say we see if we can steal a whole bottle of this stuff and make this party a bit more interesting?"

Lora's expression briefly flitted unease at the idea of stealing from the host, even if it was just a bottle of liquor. Her morals just wouldn't allow for that. She quickly fell back into her perky stride however at the mention of livening things up. Partying she could agree to especially since the majority of the crowd was older than both of them probably. Note to self, ask how old this sweet girl was; she couldn't be any older than thirty if the lack of proper lines in the face besides the wear and tear of the typical guard on duty fare were missing.
"What kind of interesting are we talking here? Although might I just say that we wont need to steal any, I could always buy us something. Stronger by far too."
Lora clicked a nail against her teeth a moment in thought, staring her up and down before smiling.
"This might seem sort of random and completely off topic, but do you dance at all?"

Ellie saw the briefest flash of unease at the mention of filching some booze. A little disappointing; Ellie was hoping for some excitement. But then she was offering to buy some stronger alcohol and that warmed her right back up to her. "Words straight my heart, those." She joked, taking another drink of her champagne. "An interesting where we test how good your balance in those heels, maybe?"
Then she asked about dancing. Ah. "I've been known to." Her mouth quirked a bit. Waltzes and general ballroom affairs she could practically do in her sleep; her feet could carry her through the flow of most formal moves with barely a conscious thought. But she was also no stranger to the dances of clubs; wonderful animalistic precursors to what followed once they left the pounding music behind. There was a quiet hope that sort of dance was the kind the good doctor was referring to. Unlikely but a girl could dream.
