Levenin chuckled uncomfortably, trying his best to stop pulling at his sleeves, but he had to do something with his hands. Otherwise, he might just find them breaking down Soup’s door again. He checked for his own knife as he saw the other man preparing himself for any potential danger. Still securely in his boot, though it was swiftly moved to his side for easier access. Who knew? Maybe someone seeing it on the street would think twice about doing anything funny. Lev could feel Charlotte shifting around in protest as he fastened the blade to what was apparently her current resting place.
”Umm, don’t tell Evrika I said anything,” said Levenin, waiting patiently for the other to finish. ”Not just about the name but uh… All of this. I don’t think she’d be happy to hear I went to you for help. I dunno if you two will ever meet again anyway but… You know, she’s not fond of you so she wouldn’t like me associating…”
Levenin didn’t think he should’ve mentioned the last part. Ellie didn’t exactly hide her disdain for Soup, but maybe the chance at blissful ignorance was better. Then again, it was just as he’d said: what were the odds of them all meeting like the first time?
He pulled his hood on likewise, taking a deep breath. Was it too late to ask to simply stay the night? Surely it’d be safer for the both of them. But Lev couldn’t, not again. Someone was waiting for him at home and he’d been absent too many times lately. ”I can’t promise I won’t run… I have a tendency...” Lev laughed again. It was all he knew to do to diffuse both the situation and his own ineptitude with basic social interaction.
Once the door was opened, he scanned the street for any signs of movement before calculating a route in his head. As much as he’d hung around this area, directions were still an effort to process. Lev figured from here, it’d be a straight shot east… right? Soup would know.
”It’s east to the station from here, I think… Or at least the most straightforward way.”

There was a moment he hesitated, throwing a quick glance back inside at Levenin's mention of Evrika as if having a fleeting thought before he gently shut and locked the door behind him.
"I can't promise I wont try to meet up with her again. I have my reasons, but I won't say anything to her about any of this. I'm well aware what she thinks of me or the idea of you having anything to do with my company." His tone was teasing, poking fun at his own admission of possibly leaving him behind in the face of danger. Even if he did run away, he wouldn't fault him for it. Kill or be killed, right?
Nick held a hand up toward Levenin's face, a gesture to be silent as he momentarily lowered his hood to let his ears free. They wiggled about, twisting toward seemingly nothing every so often before he pulled his hood back up over his face. The only thing that stirred was a cat in a nearby alleyway---or he hoped it had been a cat. The possibility that it might not be set his nerves ablaze, but he had to remain calm (at least on the outside for his companion's sake). Showing fear would only worsen his morale as well.
"It's clear, we can go. Just stay close and stay alert, walk like you have purpose." A gentle tug at Levenin's sleeve before he left the stoop and headed in the direction of the station.
"East is right, you're getting it now."

Honestly, Lev didn’t like the answer he received. He believed Soup wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag on purpose, but all it’d take is one slip up and Ellie would know. And she wouldn’t be happy, with either of them. He also worried about the implications. So did Soup intend to try and see her again? The reasons weren’t Lev’s to ask for, but the urge to strongly suggest otherwise were overwhelming. ”No no no! She’ll end up punching you again— or worse!” he wanted to yell. Instead, Levenin could only scream internally while nodding in agreement.
”If you say so,” whispered Lev before shutting his mouth when prompted.
He figured their chances of avoiding detection would increase if he stayed absolutely quiet the entire time. Knowing this, Levenin audibly gasped when Soup’s hood came off with a sudden popping of his ears. He’d seen them the last time but not this up close, with a front seat to the peach fuzz and all. For a moment, he was distracted by the display and poked the tip of one with a single finger. When they twitched again, he giggled in spite of himself.
”S-Sorry! I forgot about these and uh…” There’d been an excuse for stalking the man. But for invading his personal space? None. The hood and cover of darkness were the only things hiding his bright red face as he let the other man take the lead.
Lev was resigned to being silent but after a few minutes of nothing but their footsteps for company, conversation was the only thing that could set him at ease while wandering the dimly lit streets. ”So, uh, did everything heal up alright after uhh… You know, the whole punching thing? I’m still really sorry about that, by the way. El, I mean, Evrika is impulsive sometimes and I’m pretty sure I made it worse. A-Am I talking too much because you can just say so and I’ll… not talk... But I just wanna make sure you're okay.”

Nick gripped at the edges of his scarf tightly, trying to hide his own blushing from sight. It was barely even a touch, only a fingertip had grazed him and the burning in his cheeks went alight. It wasn't even the first time someone had reached out and touched his ears; albeit Lev's curious touch had by far been one of the most gentlest examinations he'd gotten. His fingers gripped tighter and tugged the fabric down a bit further over his head. He had apologized at least, no harm done.
"...It's okay...Just y'know, ask first next time." How embarrassing, Nick groaned internally.
While silence was the usual go to for stealth missions, Lev had taken up that moment to start small talk. He wasn't inclined to stop him though. Silence was lucrative, but the hushed words of conversation were a welcomed distraction by his unease to their surroundings and his apparent flustered state.
"I'm fine, it healed up nicely thanks to you." His tone attempted to be reassuring. "I should ask the same. You did get electrocuted that night if I remember correctly (he refused to include that he also got shocked, that wasn't important)."
Nick snorted with a small laugh. "Trust me when I say that although you do talk a lot, especially when you're nervous, it's not unwelcome. I'm just used to everyone else around me being the opposite. The people I interact with say as much as they need to and that's it. It's actually quite refreshing."

Everything was off on the wrong foot— deciding to come here at all, revealing he’d essentially been stalking the bat man (though for perfectly innocent reasons), invading his house and then his personal space before asking for an escort home to the Lower Ring. Levenin still couldn’t believe he was here walking beside him, in the dark and late at night long past when most people were normally in bed. Anyone else would’ve yelled at him. Punched him a few times, maybe. Kind of like Ellie.
”That’s good. I’ve been thinking about you, err, the injuries, a lot since then, honestly. I tried not to but I can’t help it,” said Lev, leaving out that’s why he’d been hanging around long enough to know where Soup lived. Really, he didn’t mean for it to be creepy. He just didn’t know when to quit. ”Don’t worry about me, though. I’m used to, uh, random accidents. Electrocution is a new one but it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would… I've been through worse.”
And here he’d asked about talking way too much while continuing to ramble over details nobody wanted to hear about. If someone out there was about to make the jump on the two of them, Lev’s incessant word vomit was making it easy to paint a target.
”Y-You don’t have to be nice about it… I know I’m, umm, not that articulate or anything. It’s p-probably better for me to not say anything, for safety’s sake. Unless you want me to... If it makes me more tolerable.”
