Despite Matiko's best attempts at keeping himself busy or otherwise occupied, the constant lingering worry over his shoulder of why the hell did he bring the injured escort here was just sort of there. Pacing footsteps didn't quiet it, nor did glances at the resting body of the redheaded man but that didn't stop him from doing either of those things. It was noticeable when he first moved, at least- the suddenly sleeping form jolting upright and moving, though Matiko found himself not saying anything just yet. No, he was going to put off speaking until he had an idea of what to actually say other than 'yes I am pleased that you are not dead, leave my house immediately.'
But no, from the way the man winced at the movement and from what Mat knew of first aid and injuries, he knew it wasn't quite that simple. Of course not; nothing was simple when it came to other people.
When the silence was broken by something other than quiet breaths or otherwise tense heartbeats, it seemed that Ren's first words were to reassure Mat that everyone made it out okay and to say thanks. This stopped the pacing, resulting in a soft and unsure, "That's good," to the first part and then....
Right. The big obvious question: why.
Arms crossed, he shrugged and glanced away. He didn't know other than it was just. What he had impulsively thought to do. He supposed. Ren knew things, things that Mat wanted to know - - it would be beneficial to find out his connections. But he of course couldn't say that outright, that would be stupid and while Matiko was not the most skilled with his words, he wasn't an idiot. (Most of the time.)
"Couldn't just leave you there bleeding," he answered, not yet coming any closer. However, after a second his eyes drifted back to Ren, settling first on where his injury was and then on his face. He didn't seem as if he were in too much discomfort, considering he seemed lot more interested in questioning Mat - so he left it at that.
