Another day in Novus. At first, it seemed like any other day; long and incredibly boring unless he was killing something. He started the morning off with caffeine and cigarettes after a vigorous workout and a nice hot shower. While those two addictive habits didn't do anything to lighten his naturally foul mood, it gave him enough patience to get throughout the day without stabbing anyone. That alone was an amazing feat. At least he couldn't complain about his job. After all, he was allowed to kill people legally and even if there wasn't anyone in need of a good stabbing, there was always mutated game to prey upon.
Being so used to his regular routine, today caught him off guard when he received an urgent message from the big cheese himself; The chief of the Secret Police. Whatever it was, he demanded a meeting as soon as possible. Apparently, whatever Alexander did, it was a no-no and it needed to be addressed. It raised a few questions. What could it possibly be? As far as Alexander was concerned, there was nothing to be addressed. He had completed his mission. That's all there was to it. Maybe it had to do with him not turning in a report. Could be it, but there was only one way to find out...
...And 5 minutes into the conversation, he really wished he called in sick. At first, it was 'blah, blah, blah, you completed the mission, however...blah, blah, blah...' and then it turned into more nonsense that Alexander tuned out. His reputation among the police was amazing, but fearsome to some extent. While Alexander had a high success rate, he also had a habit of going to the extreme to complete that mission. The Chief quickly jumped onto that subject and bitched about mentioned the high number of casualties as the end result. There was something about a few innocents that were caught in the fight, but that honestly wasn't his problem. If they died that quick, then they didn't deserve to live within the city. It was simple as that. With the Chief chastising his work, he helped to answer one question; Alexander actually did turn in the report.
The chief didn't think so...and finally, he made the decision. After reviewing your reports and going over the results...We have come to a decision. It is time to assign you a partner.
It was a very good thing he got his daily dose of caffeine and nicotine today. If not, the Chief was going to have to look for a new desk.
Even under the gaze that had the intensity of a thousand suns, the Chief made it clear that the decision was final and a candidate was already selected and he was to report to her tomorrow since she was off for today...
...But after a few minutes of intimidating one of the Intel personnel, he managed to acquire her home address. This was perfectly legal. According to the data, she had an office there and that's where he was supposed to report to. Right this instant. Yeah.
It was also completely rational to show up at her residence which turned out to be a mansion. She was one of those people. He pounded on the huge door three times...and waited, armed with the 5th cigarette of the morning.

Aphrodite was the type of person that loved to socialize but hate people. Humans were stupid and lazy creatures and while it haunted her that she was labeled in the same class as of species as those who are deemed unworthy, she did love to mold them into better people. and when she means better people, she means into her own image. With her years of living, Aphrodite had quite a number of talents, manipulation and molding. Her perfect example was her daughter and some members of the sp and a couple of foster children from the lower rings who went on to be proper members of society. Sure her methods would be sometimes seen as cruel or inhumane, they worked well because those she used them on she didn't consider human.
But recently, the socialite hasn't had a new project. Most problem people in SP had short term issues that didn't require her motherly instinct. It left Aphrodite rather bored and spending time hiring new staff for her home and investing in her stocks to maintain her wealth. But luckily, she received work of a new project.
"Awwww a prince with a problem in controlling his feelings... hehehe well this will be fun indeed." Aphrodite smirked as she looked at the file in front of her. A clawed hand lightly tapped on the wooden desk with golden eyes reading the list of offenses. Killing civilians, ignoring protocol, and just being crude in general. "Smellssss like daddy issues....". the ice dragon held back a chuckle as she shifted out of her lounge chair and placed the file away. She should go out shopping for new clothes for the new project, she had a feeling this one would be rather bloody.
She didn't like playing babysitter to a man child, but at least this case would be interesting.
As she made her way out of the office, the siren woman heard a heavy knock on the door. "Kali dear, can you get the door? And Bastet set up some chair." The older woman sized as she wrapped her silk robes around her as she made her way to her bedroom.
"Um sir, the Lady isn't seeing any- wait you don't have an appoi- MY LADY!" The maid called out which drew Aphrodite out of her thoughts and turned to see what caused the help such panic.
"Well...well...I wasn't expecting you yet~"

Whoever was supposed to be answering the door was taking too long for his liking. With his patience spiraling down the toilet, anything that didn't happen immediately was beginning to grate on his nerves. After a whole thirty seconds, the door opened and a maid answered the door. The sun just so happened to be hitting Alexander in the right angle for his shadow to cast over her. His being simply radiated malice. He glowered at the smaller woman and scowled at her appearance. She was in his way of getting inside. "Move," he snarled, but she stood her ground. That just would not do. He stepped forward and pushed the heavy door further open, putting a strain upon it's hinges as he relished in the maid's discomfort. "Move," he demanded once again, but much to his annoyance, she began to blabber on. Not wanting to waste anymore time with the peasant, his other hand reached to quite literally push the woman aside if she didn't move like he ordered.
The sultry voice echoed from above, pulling his attention from the maid to the woman who stood upon the second floor. His expression was inscrutable as ever. That was his partner? Her? That thing? He narrowed his eyes and shifted the cigarette between his lips. What good could she do for him on the field? Absolutely nothing. He briefly thought about going back to the chief's office and turn his desk into kindle for wasting his time. " I needed to see for myself...But now I see that this is a waste of my time." Just pathetic. What was she going to do for him? Swim around in some pond looking for clues? He didn't need a partner. This was ridiculous. He turned to leave.

He was just as prudish as she imagined. A brute storming on like her owned the place was a common feature for those from the upper ring and so she didn't really mind this small act of rudeness. The thing that did bother her was the audacity that he was still smoking in her home with no ash tray in sight. He was going to get his cancer stick remains on her fur rugs!
"Kali, regain your composure and get a bloody ash tray. Think of the toxic sabre fur rug my dear.". Aphrodite sighed as she started to descend down the stairs with her heels clicking on the marble steps. "And as for you Alexander, I think you would love to stay for a cup of tea,". Aphrodite dropped her voice so her vocal cords could vibrate into her manipulation zone. Sure he could be strong enough to shake it off but he is probably so far up his own ass he wouldn't notice a little influence telling him to stay.
"Now didn't your mother tell you its rude to not introduce yourself or come in uninvited or did you have mummy issues along with your other issues daddy's boy." Aphrodite smirked as she finally reached the young man and reached out a mechanical claw to brush his cheek. "For a hunter you should know looks can be deceiving..."

The decision was final in his mind. If they were going to assign him a partner, then they should have had enough common sense to assign him one that was capable of pulling their own weight. He wasn't about to tend to her needs and wants on the field. Oh no. She was on her own when it came to that. The Secret Police had this habit of encouraging people to gain trust with their partner whether it was off-duty or on the clock. It was to build trust with the other person and get to know them. Alex was fortunate enough to to avoid having one all of these years because of how dangerous his work was compared to most positions in the force. His missions were to basically hit the disappear, so there was no need for an extra man (or woman in this case) to be there with him. If anything, they would just get in his way.
She was ordering her maid around as if he were staying. Fuck that. He had other places to do and things to kill that were far more important than pleasing some snotty wench. Already, he was beginning to hate how the way she talked. Even so, as she spoke to his back, he found himself stopping in his tracks. He turned, his attention upon her once again as she descended down the last pair of steps. For some reason, he wanted to see what more she had to say to him.
Unfortunately, everything that came out of her mouth wasn't good and he was tempted to rip her to pieces in her own home. Maybe he could do her a favor and turn her into one of those prized rugs she casually mentioned about earlier. Daddy's boy? The urge to wipe her existence off the planet was real, but there was that small part of him that said 'don't'. That was the first. Maybe it was common sense telling him to just stand there and take it because murdering another fellow officer was against the rules and not worth incarceration...Or maybe there was more to it with this woman.
The cold touch of her claws affected him more than it should. They had him shiver as a wave of calm washed over his body. Despite her insults earlier, he felt like he could just stand there all day and listen to whatever more she had to say. Looks can be deceiving...
And it suddenly dawned on him. Not only was she some useless wench, but she was a manipulative one. He hated those the most. His hand came up fast and slapped her hand away. "If you know my name, zhen vhat is zhe point in introducing myself?" he snarled, his German accent slipping through the cracks of his patience. It was safe to assume that she had read through his files, both good and bad. Did he get assigned to a shrink? God help the force if they did.
No, God should help him through this day. He suddenly felt...uncomfortable with her being so close, but he still retained that natural scowl, not wanting to show his discomfort. He didn't need her touching him like that. The effect she had on him earlier... No. Just no. He finally broke the silence and gaze as he looked around. "...You were saying about tea earlier?" he said with a resigned sigh. Whether he liked it or not, she was stuck with him. The best thing to do now is to see how useful she was on the field.

"Why, its because that is what we call manners my dear. Just because we may know of each other doesn't mean we should give each other some form of introduction." The siren smiled as she stepped back to give a small curtsy and glanced through her eyelashes back at the grump in front of her. "I am Lady Aphrodite Willomina. The Siren of Upper Ring and the Ice Serpent of the secret police. Now it is your turn to say hello." Aphrodite dropped her voice and felt her gills vibrate with power before she straightened herself. She saw that he looked still forever angry but there was a new emotion; confusion and perhaps even fear. The thought of him being scared of her amused her as she turned on her heels and headed towards her dining room.
"Well don't dawdle darling, I have chai waiting. Oh Basket prepare another cup please, Alexander do you like cream, sugar or honey with your chai?" Aphrodite glanced back to see if the gentleman was following her. She noted that Kali was back with an ash tray and gave it to the man before shuffling back to her other duties.
As the two made it into the parlor room, Aphrodite indicated a chair for her uninvited guest to take as she made her way a chair opposite of him in front of one of the larger arched windows in the room. A young woman with cat features was their preparing the tea and presented them to the two before leaving out a door opposite from the one they came from.
"So Alexander, I know we got off on the wrong foot, which is understandable. A man of your talents is not use to a woman of my talents so it must be quite odd that you were partnered with me. But allow me to assure you that you have nothing to fear from me in the means of getting in your way. In fact, think of it as beneficial for both of us, if you wish to know more." Aphrodite closed her eyes at that moment to inhale the aroma of the tea before taking a sip before setting it down and waiting for her guest to reply.

It was unnerving and anything that was unnerving needed to be cut to pieces. The strangest part was that he couldn't bring himself to draw his sword. He only scowled as she introduced herself to the fullest extent. So that's who she is. He would have to look her up as soon as possible. Not knowing who she was bugged him to some degree. He made a note to keep tabs on his co-workers in the future.
Finally, she decided to quit stalling and led him through the mansion...Which was gaudy in his opinion. Why anyone would need this much space to themselves was beyond him. He didn't need such...things. All he needed was his sword and that was pretty much about it. Hopefully she wasn't going to make it a habit to order him to meet at her mansion constantly.
He ignored her stupid question about Chai. Alexander didn't even like tea, but he doubted she had a good bottle of whiskey laying around. No, she seemed to think of herself as far too sophisticated for that kind of stuff. He left her in silence for the short trip to the parlor and did nothing but glower at the back of her head. How was she doing this? Somehow, he had the feeling that no matter how much bodily harm he could threaten her with, she wouldn't tell him a damn thing. Was it hypnosis? Suggestion? Or was she just really that damn good and he didn't want to admit it? It only pissed him off more as he begrudgingly took his seat.
There was one thing she was right about; he wasn't used to someone like her and already he didn't like it. She also seemed to pick up on that too. She also went down to business and quickly addressed the very things he was scowling about earlier. Apparently, she was very capable. After all, she was a part of the Secret Police for a reason.
He let her take a moment to savor the tea. His own tea was left to cool on the coffee table. Their partnership being beneficial? What could she possibly do for him? "What makes you think you're of any use to me?" With the ashtray present, he snuffed out the little stub of cigarette and lit up another one. Chain smoking in the morning? It really was going to be a long day. "Start talking."

As she took a couple of moments to notice that the unlikely companion wasn't even toughing his tea. That was just poor manners. "Awwww Alexander, I do insist you try the tea..." Aphrodite suggested dropping her voice before she placed her cup to the side and snapped her fingers for a refill. "As for your simply brutish demand I will say that I am someone who would benefit it you because of my gives as an ally." Aphrodite filed her mechanical claws as she glanced up with a smile that was both cold and warming at the same time.
"Before the secret police I was....a protector of sorts. When idiots with strength or brains and used them but have the audacity to get caught they need people to keep them out of trouble. Similar to that stunt you pulled that brought us here to this point." Aphrodite frowned as the cat maid came back to refill the cup before slipping out again. "Honestly I could care less about the casualties you caused, most of them were from the lower ring and the less of them the better. However, while you are cunning and a good hunter, you are very incredibly sloppy. If it wasn't for the fact there was a group of SP members near by to clean up the mess I would assure you, you would be sitting in front of me with a couple of more scars." Aphrodite went towards the cup and paused to sip some tea.
"So here is my proposition. Train you in honing your gifts and when there are days you are sloppy I fix the messes you cause. As you have witnessed I can be quite persuasive and money can do anything in this city. In return, I can provide you some targets that would benefit not only myself but also the secret police if they were to.... disappear. And you get the chance to kill... its a win win I think.". Aphrodite glanced back at Alexander with a sense of wickedness behind her eyes.
"So.... what do you say my dear?"

Eyes narrowed at the woman, indicating that Alexander wasn't dicking around. I do insist you try the tea was not the answer he wanted. At first, he just sat there glowering as she took her sweet time in explaining her usefulness. It was grating on his nerves. Finally, she got to the point...and of course, it didn't stop there. As she continued on, he eventually picked up the tea. At first, he eyed it suspiciously. He wouldn't put it past her to put something in it. The scent of chai didn't bode well with him, but he took a sip anyway. If she was thinking she was going to boss him around, screw that. He'd drink the tea whenever he pleased.
Then came the topic of the recent mission. He set down the tea and once again, he was scowling at her. Yes, there were thirteen innocent casualties, but so what? They weren't smart enough to leave the area. It was their fault and not his problem, so what did she mean by "that stunt"? Was she questioning his work? What right did this bitch have? His gloved hand slammed defiantly upon the coffee table, causing the little tea cup to jump in place. "If you zhink you can sit hea' and lecture me about human lives, zhen you ah vasting your time," he snarled. "Zhey were collateral damage!" the cat maid jumped as she made her way into the room. Alexander paid no mind, his anger directed at this...Aphrodite for thinking she could talk down to him like that and live. "Civilian lives ah not my problem. Zhe target was assassinated." It wouldn't have escalated if the civilians didn't make such a fuss and pointed him out. He speculated that they were in cahoots with the targets, but obviously that didn't matter to the force. Fact of the matter is, he was held responsible for the deaths of civilians. Still, they acted like he was supposed to give a shit...
Aphrodite frowned. She was probably thinking the same way those Schwinehunds did and was probably going to tell him there was a better way of avoiding casualties, but she surprised him once again. Instead, she agreed that those victims were nothing but trash and continued to speak, both praising and cutting him down at the same time. Surprisingly, Alex didn't just get up and cut her into ribbons. Instead, he allowed her to speak and his tea eventually disappeared. Chai wasn't so bad.
It occurred to him that she might have had something to do with this whole mess. Casualties were common with any mission, but with this one, there was a high count and witnesses to boot. It was unavoidable. Inconsistent information led to this disaster of a mission. Yes, the target was dead, but it also came with a price...Which was why he was sitting in this chair today. At least he made a mess out of that asshole. Nobody was going to ever forget about the carnage Alexander wrought upon their resistance group. He wasn't dubbed The Reaper for nothing. There were other cliche names the citizens had given him, but he never complained. He and the people actually agreed on something; Alexander wasn't a force to trifle with.
...Then again, neither was Aphrodite. He had greatly underestimated her. While she may not be as physically strong as him, she was cunning and had the connections that rivaled his temper. As far as the force was concerned, Alexander was their dog on a leash. Aphrodite was far more than that. The police were willing to give Alexander's leash to her. With her political strings and conniving ways... She was dangerous. Very dangerous. She was probably the one that cleaned up the evidence and intimidated the witnesses into silence; possibly made a few 'disappear'. Yes, she was useful, but he was also very aware that he had to watch his own back in her presence. The look in her eyes was just as deadly as his.
"..." Maybe she couldn't kill him, but she could probably find someone else who could. Either that, or she'd somehow have him locked up and buried underneath the city. For once, Alexander had no choice in the matter. He ... begrudgingly conceded. "Very well," he rose from his seat and closed the distance between the two. "You have a deal, but let me make myself clear..." he dared to enter her personal space, grasping the arms of her chair and drew himself close; very close -- close enough to smell the nicotine and Chai on his breath. "I am in charge...and you will do as you are told. You try anything with me and i'll turn you into one of your precious rugs..." his icy gaze bore into her, indicating that it would be wise to take his words seriously, "Do you understand me?"[/font]

Note: this post has implications of torture and harm, I kept it pg-13
She knew he would try to defend himself which gave her some type of amusement. He was like a spoiled child with how he reacted to being scolded. Aphrodite didn't have to deal with a spoiled child, Gaia was better than that, but she knew how to handle those who thought themselves too highly above the law. Aphrodite finished her cup as Alexander stood up and made his way over to her side with venom in his eyes. He accepted the deal to be partners but warned her that he was in control and if she stepped out of line then she would be turned her into a rug.
Was he really that stupid to threaten her?
At first Aphrodite simply stared at the man in front of her before her lips curled into a smile and then a small chuckle. "Ohoho, oh darling you do have a sense of humor." Aphrodite continued to give a throaty laugh as she stood up to her full height and glared back at her new partner. "I think I should show you what I am capable of before you start throwing around threats." Aphrodite dropped the smile before slightly brushing passed the taller person in front of her before walking towards a bookcase at the end of the room. "Bastet, we are done with tea. Clean this up and if I receive any calls, tell them I'm in a meeting." The siren mentioned over her shoulder before she pulled a book from the case and watched as the piece of furniture moved to the side to reveal a stairway. With a small tap of her foot, the stairway light up in a dim lighting before the pair descended down the flight of steps.
"As a for warning, I do have permission to do this, I don't do this simply out of boredom. But I think this can prove why its wise not to test me..." The older woman stated as she made it to the bottom floor. With a flick of a switch, the pair were in front of a one way window that peered into a small room with a single person in it.
The person inside the room looked small and frail. Covered in dirt and dry blood, the being was a young woman who could have been in her late teens to her early twenties. Her eyes were slashed and her ears were red like they were bruised recently. Her lips were chapped and her nails were broken and caked in dried blood.
"This urchin was a moment of a vigilante group that attempted to bomb a house for one of the council members. I have had her in my care for about two weeks and got all the useful information and now I am at a point I do not know what to do with her. Can't let her go even though she doesn't know where she is or who has held her. But I would feel so guilty if I ended her life so....I suppose I would have to be creative." Aphrodite smiled at Alexander before she went over to a door and entered into the room. As she entered in she started humming to herself to catch the girl's attention. The girl flinched and shifted around, not being able to see where it was coming from. Aphrodite's lips curled into a smile before parting her lips to sing a song in her native tongue. The girl whimpered as the song started and as it grew louder her nails started to scrape at her ears. Which caused the siren woman to sigh and click her tongue.
"Oh darling, you shouldn't do that. Then you wont be able to hear my song." Aphrodite sang out as she made her way over to the girl and knelt in front of her. The girl was starting to cry and begging for the singing to stop which caused the socialite to roll her eyes before licking her claws before grabbing the girl by the neck and giving it a light squeeze. "Oh you peasants just don't appreciate high class." Aphrodite growled as she pulled away and watched as the girl started to claw her neck where the nail marks were. Satisfied, Aphrodite stood up and made her way to the door as the girl started to fall over still scrapping her neck. Aphrodite made her way to her new companion and placed a clawed hand in front of his face.
"You may think you are in control, but know this boy... Disrespect me or fail your lessons, and I will make you wish you died with your father." Aphrodite leaned in for the last few words and licked the man's cheek before giving it a light slap and turning back to head up the stairs. The girl in the other room finally fell silent.
