Noisy.
Cities were noisy. So filled with the skittering disgusting noises of human voices calling out to those around them and spewing words that held little to no meaning. Small talk. Sounds calling out, laughter ringing and echoing. Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. She hated it. She had always hated it. No hope for their species. Destructive, cowardly, hateful, judgmental. The weak stuck together and gathered like rats around a source of heat, looking to gnaw at the ankles of society and leech away any sort of productivity from the world.
She didn't go outside for a reason. She stayed indoors, behind her screens, with her creations, with those she could shape and mold and keep to herself without the filthy hands dirtying her perfection that had been so painstakingly created. Outside couldn't ever be sterile and safe. Filth covered everything, and there was no escape for such a thing. Filthy, filthy, filthy, filthy.
A sneer formed on blue lips, a singular spider tapping against the side of her head in an effort to calm while her vitals signs fluctuated during the walk outside of a crowded street. Assignments. Why did they forced her on an assignment outside. Give her a code to crack, a person to watch, information to gather. Not personal. Anything but personal. She hated personal.
But there she walked, outside in that filthy world, avoiding all contact she possibly could while looking around for suspicious parties. Searching, simply searching. So much searching, searching. Her fingers tapped on the sides of her thighs.
One, two, three, four.
One, two, three, four.
Static filled her mind, the repetition doing little to help. Air. She needed air. Outside was so suffocating.

It’d been much too long since his last excursion out on the town. Normally the only time he left his home was for work, for Vigilante jobs, or for the very rare occasional date, but today Levenin gave himself the opportunity to explore freely. Perhaps it wasn’t the smartest of ideas as he coughed into his sleeve a few times. Some time this week he’d managed to pick up a cold, which was the main reason he wasn’t at the clinic today. All his patients needed was to catch whatever he had. Even after insisting on a mask, his coworkers had practically thrown him out the door anyway. ”Don’t worry! We got you covered! Go rest or something!” was the last thing Lev had heard. Well, aside from, ”You’ve been looking pretty run down lately. We just wanna make sure you get a break. We want you to be okay, you know?”
That’s why Levenin wasn’t going to let himself scope out potential targets this time. No pharmacies or hospitals, no future parties or galas to crash. For once, the advice was taken to heart, if only so he could stop worrying his friends. Just him and the city for a couple of hours. It was just a shame he couldn’t enjoy the freedom on account of having little money to throw around. The smells of various Novian cuisine wafted throughout the streets and enticed him at every last corner. It seemed there was a downside to fresh air when one was absolutely starving.
Lev caught himself staring into a restaurant window before pulling away from it. Too bad it’s sorta difficult to steal made-to-order meals… Or else I could…
His thoughts automatically switched into thief mode, contemplating how get a bite to eat in the simplest manner possible. Only it was the complete opposite of where he wanted his mindset to be.
No! You’re not going to think about that today!
Though maybe it’d be easier to take something from the grocery store… The supermarket is so huge, no one would notice…
No, that’s bad! No stealing! No thinking about stealing either!
Levenin bumped shoulders with some stranger in the middle of his mental debate. How rude of him to take his eyes off the streets like that. The woman caught in his mess seemed none too pleased by the transgression. ”S-Sorry! I, uh, wasn’t paying attention!” he apologized profusely. The instant their eyes met, he knew not to touch her. A tiny voice in his brain told the young man he’d regret doing so, even if it was to help. However, the intimidation factor belied a tension in her fingers that he noticed, a feeling that she was distracted by something. ”Umm, are you okay? I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

Distractions were helpful while outside. One of her spiders continued to cling to her shoulder while they walked down the street and unfortunately moving in towards the crowd. Grey eyes pierced each soul that decided to try and make eye contact, their path instantly moving away from her to leave a sphere of personal space around her body. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Against the base of her skull. Soothing. The rhythm kept her focus sharp and observations smooth.
A new couple. A child that had lost a parent. Drunks. Addicts. Suspicion. All of them swirled around her with their toxic cloud of indifference and insincerity. Self-centered disgusting creatures that didn’t so much as deserve to step out into the streets. One such stood at a window, staring in. She stopped, observed. They moved away from the window and moved in her direction, thoughts clearly filled with something. Enough to distract.
Their arms met, and she felt a wave of disgust rise into the back of her throat. Her fists clenched, and their eyes met. She looked down at him, a cold glare on her face. Filth. Filth had touched her and soiled her. Roxanne stood to her full height, legs together and arms tense at her side. Itched. Burned. Dirty. Dirty Dirty. Dirty.
“Disgusting.” The only word she said while staring down at him, the world swirling around them at such a pace that no one would notice how they stood amid the traffic.

”H-Huh…?”
A big, stupid “huh?” was all that came out of Levenin’s mouth. Really, that was the only word running through his mind, over and over in a loop of confusion that refused to process itself in his brain. Maybe if she’d slapped him or yelled at him for being rude, then it would’ve made sense. He deserved either of those options for not paying attention to his surroundings on a crowded street of all things. But that one phrase— no, not even a phrase. A simple little adjective and Lev was stunned into speechlessness. Disgusting.
”Uhh, umm… S-Sorry.”
Well, that was an improvement over the slack-jawed gasping. Did this woman somehow know he was sick? Was she a germophobe perhaps and he’d just set off her worst fears? Lev supposed he had an air about him leftover from the clinic. It was strange how sanitary could smell so foul, probably because it meant disease and other such unpleasantness couldn’t be far off. Or maybe Lev had soiled her perfectly pearl white suit. Upon closer inspection to see if he had done just that, this stranger didn’t appear to be from around here. She had a commanding presence about her that screamed High Class, or at least someone who was dignified and refined enough to be taken as such.
”Are you lost?” Levenin blurted out, instantly wishing he hadn’t. It would’ve been wiser to just walk away. Clearly she had business of her own and he’d angered her enough for one day, maybe even a lifetime. And yet he couldn’t help but notice her discomfort. Probably because of him, yes, but what if it was because she was unfamiliar with the area? It’d be even more rude to leave a lady when she needed assistance. ”You, uh, look sorta out of place, I guess? P-Please don’t take that the wrong way!”

There had been no reason to reply to the person. Beneath her. His dumbfounded expression, the stuttered words, the slack jawed look that gave away how little seemed to move through his thoughts. Filthy. Filthy. He had an air of filth swirled around his body, it was easy enough to tell.
Odd he assumed she would be lost. In truth, she hadn’t been exactly certain where she was headed, but that in no way meant lost. It simply meant wandering until the destination had been found.
“Is that so.” Her voice was cold as she spoke, continuing to stare him down. There was no inflection to her words, no clear indication if she had asked a question or given a statement. her gaze moved up and past him, scanning the crowds that wandered to and fro around them. No doubt he would feel indebted because of her presence. It seemed to happen more than she wished. No matter.
“Why would one look out of place?” Her head tilted, looking him over from head to toe and assess his strengths and weaknesses. Not much of a threat, clear signs of anxiety. “Would you know where to go?”

Levenin coughed nervously as a chill overtook him. She was cold, as in he could feel the air turn to ice as she stared down at him. Was what he did really so offensive? Rude, yes, he admitted to that. The fact this woman simply towered over him in both elegance and stature only made him avert his gaze. He didn’t have nearly enough courage to meet with her eyes. She’d tear him apart and Lev was painfully aware of this.
”Umm, yeah,” he sputtered. Even underneath all of the fear, Levenin wasn’t going to leave her alone until he knew for sure she was fine. He’d been around here enough to know she stuck out a bit too much. Or maybe it was her natural intimidating charm. ”Uh, I don’t know how to explain it. You just look lost. I was concerned, is all. Please don’t take it… wrong. The wrong way, I mean.”
Well, now he definitely wasn’t going to list the reasons that’d answer her question. Conjecture based on appearance never turned out well, especially in his personal experience. Sometimes, a suspicious person was genuinely suspicious, but Lev always valued his hide enough to shut up and ignore it like a sensible person. Staring was impolite, after all.
Levenin needed to move on or else he’d dig himself further into his grave.
”I don’t know this area one hundred percent or anything, but if you need directions, I could probably help. It’s better than wandering around by yourself, right…?”
”The city is so big.” “It can be dangerous if you get too far from the crowds alone.” “You really do look like a High Class socialite who stumbled into a lower rung and is too proud to ask for a way out.” Every one of those things was on the tip of his tongue, but Lev held firm before saying something he’d regret.
