Full Name:
Lae Kojima ; PL for short
Age & Date of Birth:
24 ; August 13th
Gender:
Male
Class:
Upper Class
Occupation:
Herbist ; Flora Genetic Engineer
Affiliation:
Civilian
Genetic Modifications:
- Mentha spicata: Odour of perspiration mimicks spearmint instead of a regular body odour. Highly resistant to all drugs causing insomnia and chemical fluxes associated with anxiety. Contributes to rapid hair growth.
- Helianthus annuus: All of his cells have chloroplasts, thus gaining the ability to photosynthesize. Sunlight, whether artificial or natural, directly affects the productivity of PL: during the middle of the night, he is especially sluggish once reserve of sunlight energy is spent. Cell membrane of cells is stronger, which allows resistance to viruses.
- Euphorbia trigona/ferox: Saliva and plasma in the blood are spliced with the latex poison of these plants, and are incredibly toxic. If skin or mucous membranes are exposed to either, severe irritations and inflammation will occur; fatal when ingested. Naturally immune to his own fluids.
- Complete heterochromia: PL's left eye is a soft sunflower gold, in contrast to his right, which is a darker orange-gold. Somehow inherited from one of his parents, though he doesn't know who; both mother and father had dark gold eyes, with no visible heterochromia. Does not affect vision.
- Living Hair: PL's hair is actually a very unnoticeable mutation of regular hair and flora genes, which causes him to have nerve endings in his hair. Brushing it takes a careful hand, and cutting the hair too close to the root causes PL disorienting pain. But on the bright side, he can photosynthesize with it.
Appearance:
Disproportionately tall for his race; his height is around 5'9". His eyes are gold: the left is lighter and the right is darker, resulting from an unknown genetic inheritance. The colour of his hair is partly due to his daily diet of flora (he is quite vegetarian; the proteins in meat aren't processed so well by his body), and partly due to his ability to photosynthesize-- the chlorophyll takes on a green-ish colour.
Personality:
Provide at least a full paragraph describing your character's personality. If your character has a disorder or disability, please be certain to research the effects these have on people so as to be respectful in your portrayal.
Background:
Lae learned from a young age that life was going to be difficult. Of three siblings, he was the only one to survive to adulthood; the other two were lost to poverty and violence. Lae knew, somehow, that the environment he grew in was his parents' fault (but he could never let the animosity fester; they tried so hard for him). Both his mother and father were kind, quiet, and hard-working, but none of those qualities contributed to, or could improve, their test scores, and that ultimately landed them in the lower class. Later on they would tell Lae that it wasn't that they weren't smart, but because being as poorly educated as they were, they just could not test on things they had never learned. Constant work erased the possibility of free time. So needless to say, all those circumstances drove Lae to ambition.
He grabbed every book he could find and read. Studied. In combination with his parents' brilliant practical application, Lae's theoretical mind excelled at processing everything, and that helped him a lot in life once he grew old enough to utilize those talents lucratively and effectively. Genetic modification and botany especially fascinated him; but despite all his work and clear prowess, Lae went unnoticed by the majority of the world for most of his young life. It wasn't until his test results landed him in the upper class, that someone finally saw something like potential in him and approached with an offer: work for them, intern under the best, and escape the lower class area and its sadness. But he clearly refused; the bond with his parents was too strong to sever. The only compromise he desired to reach was, to continue his work, but to stay in the lower class area.
They agreed; there as much to do even in the lower class area.
