Name of Business: The Big Black One Inn & Public House
Purpose of Business: Beverages (Inc. home-brewed beer & liquor, purified water available on request), food (pub fare, with special dinners on holidays). Some rooms to rent. Live music when performers can be found, although I doubt there'll be any shortage in this town.
Location: Lower Class District, on the corner of Longshore Road and Duskin Street, to be specific. Excellent corner location. Duracrete & steel construction. Has a flickering holographic sign out front, of a black stallion sitting at a table and trying to flag a waiter down. Front porch with rocking-chairs and ashtrays.
Layout Description: Rustic interior, with rough stone floor. Predominate colors are browns and grays, earthy or maybe Western colors. Inexpensive metal tables and chairs which wobble just a bit. Bar is polished black marble, some three centuries old, and the only really nice thing in the place. Lit by light from the surprisingly big windows until sunset. After there is a brick fireplace and some incandescent lights. Behind the bar is a well-stocked liquor cabinet, refrigerator and glacial precipitator, a dozen taps, thousands of glasses and mugs, and an assortment of odds and ends acquired over a dozen lifetimes. Notables include a sloop in a bottle and a locked box with a bird-globe-and-anchor symbol, the meaning of which has been lost in the depths of time. Under the bar is a oven and a small grill, and a double-barrel over-under 10 ga. shotgun, to deter troublemakers. Door behind the bar leads to the still and barrels, behind that is Tab's small home and a back lot where he tinkers. Stairs to the left of the entrance lead to a balcony, with some more tables and a corridor to five bedrooms. Each has a bed, table and a wall-safe.
Other: Legal establishment, with all licenses and papers in order and all relevant taxes paid. Accepts hard currencies & bartered goods with few questions asked, and has been known to shelter street-rats and hard-luck cases. Police typically turn a blind eye because Tab is quiet, pays his taxes, and doesn't tolerate openly seditious talk in the common-room. Tab is a gruff old man with infrequent charitable impulses, but he knows the score and does not care to have his business seized or be executed. So he does not serve known vigilantes or allow openly seditious talk in the common-room. The business does have a street-rep as a place for kids to hide until a storm blows over, but less from the SecPol and more from bigger kids and thugs. I reserve the right to change this in the future, of course, as characters develop and events eventuate.
One More Thing: I want the Big Black One to become Novus's most popular tavern! So, I give all RP'ers blanket permission to set scenarios in this pub. I also give blanket permission to control the character of Tab Bachman inside the confines of the pub, while he is doing bartender-y things. This means that, if you have set a scenario in the pub and order a drink, you do not need my permission to mention that you get one.
To your health, ai shilande!
