Despite his clear annoyance, the man spoke for a good deal longer than Isaac had expected. The man’s smirk under his mask would make plenty of people think he was being sly and lying, but Isaac had met too many liars in his life to count, and he knew a few key signs. This man, from the sound of it, was telling the truth. His grin fit in with his supposed desire to simply toy with the police. Unless he was a very good actor—which was possible—he was telling the truth. Although Isaac kept his guard up all the time, he felt better about working with the man. Just a little, anyway.
“Alright,” he said with a nod. “Fair enough. Honestly, this particular truck isn’t too important to me. I just want what’s inside. I was planning on just hauling a box or two off to the Slums, donate ‘em to a soup kitchen. But if you feel like driving—well—more people get fed. So, I'm thinking we screw over the police, let ‘em eat scraps for a day or two, and we feed the homeless for a week. Sound good?”
But instead of waiting for the man’s answer, Isaac went ahead and started picking the lock to the driver-side door. From an inner pocket in his jacket, he pulled out two thin slivers of steel and pushed them into the lock. With one ear pressed against the door, he listened for the barrels of the lock to click, tapping his steel pieces around inside the lock. It only took him half a minute to find the right spots, and once he did, he turned his picks to the side and unlocked the door.
“If you need to hotwire this thing, you’re gonna have to do that yourself. I’ve never done that before.” Although, with one look at the dashboard, Isaac could see that there was a port where either he or the cat man could connect a computer. Isaac’s own handheld would maybe get the job done, but he had never hacked a car before. Trying to start it up would likely take longer than they had time for.
“Any idea how you plan to get through the checkpoints? I assume you weren’t planning to sell the food in the Upper Class.”

Crowlin could act a little bit, but he certainly didn’t need to here. Unless the person in front of him went to a lot of effort to convince him of it, he Crow knew that this guy wasn’t police or anything like that. Therefore there was no reason to lie about what he was doing there and what he intended to do with the truck. There probably wouldn’t have been too much difference in what either of them planned to do anyway and it seemed as though that held particularly true.
The hacker listened to what Blue had to say and was a bit interested in why he wanted the food in the truck but that question was quickly put to rest as it seemed feeding the hungry in the slums was the plan…or at least that’s the story the apparent thief was sticking with. Whether it was true or not mattered little to Crowlin really.
*A man of the people, huh?*
The hacker’s smile beneath his mask faded only slowly as he stepped out of the way, watching Blue take the initiative and start picking the lock for the driver side door. Crowlin was content to step back and let him work while he kept watch, hoping the driver didn’t make his way out again. That wasn’t the case however as he heard the lock unlatch and the door open for the two criminals.
Crowlin climbed inside and was quick to get to work as his new companion had before, pulling out his PDA and a cable while reaching under the steering column and pulling a panel off to expose the wiring beneath. His fingers filed through the various wires eventually landing on a red and a black wire which he quickly cut and crossed with a small pocket knife from his right cargo-pocket, connecting the current for the engine ignition.
“Not going to use the checkpoints. Too conspicuous. There’s a cornered alley where I was going to park the truck and piecemeal the boxes out.”
He then used the knife to cut a blue wire for the passive security system before sitting back up in the seat. He took the cable and plugged one end into the PDA and the other into the truck’s jack before pressing a button on the screen of the handheld. After a couple of seconds of the PDA running a few security and ID override scripts, there was a click in the steering column and Crowlin reached to the empty ignition and turned it, the truck quickly roaring to life.
“You know how to drive a double-clutch?”

Isaac had no worries about the driver. His NUIP filter was still on, and there was still no one around except the cat man. And if that number in the bottom-right of his vision ticked up any higher, the two thieves had thirty meters of buffer space before the person ever showed up.
Once the cat man hopped in the driver seat, Isaac walked around the side and opened the passenger door. He climbed inside and took a seat, resting one leg up on his knee while he watched the cat man hotwire the truck. It was kind of funny how few thieves knew how to open a physical lock. Most children knew how to hack a digital lock or take a computer apart by the time they were five. If it was electronic, they knew it inside and out, so it wasn't too surprising to Isaac that the cat man could start up the truck but not open the door—and vice versa for himself.
When the man asked if Isaac could drive a double clutch, Isaac looked at him and fought the urge to raise an eyebrow as he thought, Double… clutch? Is he making that up? I'm pretty sure he's making that up. Isaac didn't even have his driver's license. He had been living in the Slums until a few months ago, and no slum dog could get a license, much less a car. But for the sake of not looking like a complete idiot, Isaac simply said, "No."
Isaac then pulled out his handheld and waited for the cat man to start driving. Even if they were going to avoid the checkpoints, getting through Upper Class streets was going to be difficult. He would no doubt need to help with avoiding security cameras, so Isaac went ahead and tapped the side of his visor, switching to his camera view filter.

The look that Blue gave him was more than enough of an answer to his question, the resounding ‘no’ simply a confirmation of that. Crowlin gave a slight sigh, resigning himself to the fact that this was going to be a bit of a bumpy ride out of the compound. He did another check over the systems for the truck and took a deep breath of both preparation and anticipation. It had been a while since he’d last done this in the slums helping a friend out, so this was going to be rough any way he looked at it.
Crowlin depressed the clutch, rev’d it up the engine, then shifted the truck into neutral before easing the clutch. He then repeated the process getting the truck into first, and as he let off the clutch, the vehicle lurched forward. It jerked back and forth as Crowlin tried to get the revs up a little more and let it settle. Soon the truck started to smooth out as he turned it towards the distribution center’s exit checkpoint.
He looked ahead to see that there was another truck getting ready to leave, which was perfect as long as it didn’t sit in the lane too long. Crow reached into his leg pack and pulled out a crude looking little device, a small circuit board attached to a small timer and essentially a copper donut with a small iron bar sitting in the middle of it, much of it was surrounded by soft plastic obviously melted around the components to protect them. He flicked a switch on it and a small whine could be heard getting quickly higher in pitch as he held it out to Isaac.
“Hopefully you can throw. It's got a 4 second timer on it. Push the button and try and nail the booth while the arm’s raised and that truck is almost through.”

Isaac took the plastic-covered device. It felt sticky in his gloved hands, but not so much that he couldn't throw it. A hard enough toss would glue it to the booth up ahead. The problem was… Isaac didn't have the best aim. His brother had all of their mother's sharpshooting talent. Even though he had to hit the booth and not the arm, Isaac wasn't sure if he could make the shot.
A plan quickly hit him, though. The driver in the car up ahead should have realized that two shady characters were driving the truck behind him. And yet, he hadn't done anything. He probably wasn't paying attention. These trucks didn't have rear-view mirrors, and why would the driver need to look in his side mirrors to leave the compound? There wouldn't be any traffic yet, so the driver would only be looking forward.
It was a risk, but Isaac decided to test the driver's attention. "Don't wait for me," he said to the cat man. Isaac opened the passenger door as little as he could in order to slip out of the truck. He then shut the door and rolled over to the booth just as the leading truck pulled through. Isaac pressed the button on the cat man's device, stuck it to the booth, and forced the arm to remain up for four whole seconds. There wasn't time for Isaac to climb back into the truck, and he was already pushing his luck. Surely the driver would start looking in his side mirrors and see a hooded, masked man climb into a moving vehicle. So Isaac rolled on the ground and once again slipped underneath the stolen truck. He grabbed the undercarriage and pulled himself up off the ground as the cat man drove forward.
Isaac held on to the truck for about two blocks. Once he couldn't see the other vehicle's tires anymore, and once the cat man stopped at a red light, Isaac peered out to check for cameras. There was a camera on the corner of the street, and Isaac scanned it to see its line of sight. Once it turned away from him, Isaac rolled out, opened the passenger door, and climbed back inside. He looked to the cat man and said, "Figured that was better than risking a missed shot."

Crowlin took a deep breath as he changed down in the truck’s gear, the vehicle slowly rolling towards the checkpoint booth and the truck sitting there in front of them. He hoped that his new buddy was a good shot, but apparently he had something else in mind instead. The leo raised an eyebrow, looking at Isaac as he jumped out of the truck and did the work on foot.
Crow wasn’t sure what he had in mind for an exit, but as long as Blue got the job done, then that was a matter he could be concerned with after he got the truck out of the compound. Soon enough, the hacker brought the truck to a stop behind the one ahead and fortunately it was only a few seconds before the checkpoint cleared it and the driver started to pull through. Right on schedule, Isaac planted the EMP grenade and set it off, the pulse shorting out the booth’s lights and electronics and leaving the gate open.
Crowlin wasted no time getting the truck back into gear and moving again, not bothering to wait for the driver ahead to get very far and instead hitting the gas and passing it on the left. Crow hoped that Blue had made it out of there as well as he swung the wheel left and turned out onto the road, heading towards the first intersection and taking a right before passing through the next.
He looked to the side as he heard the truck’s door open to see his partner for the evening climbing back in as he took off from the red light to make a left at the next intersection.
“If it works, it works. Keep an eye out for cameras. The fewer we pass, the better.”
Crowlin continued pushing the truck through the local streets, making his way towards a corner alleyway near the middle-class border where they could hide the truck and start moving some of the product. All things considered with the unexpected additions and changes, the little escapade went quite well so far.

"Got it," said Isaac, leaning to the side as he pushed his visor up with his middle finger. His eyes darted around, quickly taking in the street that the cat man drove down. The buildings were tall and luxurious, pristine and sturdy, their own blemishes being the cameras that sat on their ledges, sweeping back and forth. There were plenty of cameras around, too many to ignore, really. It was impossible for this truck to go anywhere without being seen. That wasn't the problem, though. The problem was getting their faces spotted on the cameras. And that would take some clever driving.
Isaac's visor scanned the cameras at the next intersection, and he soon saw their lines of vision. One camera was set up at the left corner near the truck. The other camera was on the right corner on the other side of the street. "Wait two seconds and turn right, then hide the left side of your face," said Isaac. The left-most camera would be in the middle of swinging left, and so long as the cat man waited two seconds, the camera would miss the driver's side of the truck completely. The far-right camera, however, would be swinging left as well. There would be no way to avoid that one. So as they turned, Isaac told the cat man when he needed to hide his face.
Every intersection that followed played out that way. At least one of them had to do something to hide their faces as they went through the intersections. There was simply no way of avoiding the synced-up cameras. It was a good thing that the cat man already knew how futile it was to sneak the truck through the checkpoints.
After a few turns that brought them closer to the class border, Isaac told the cat man to stop the truck. Once they stopped, Isaac pointed to an alley up ahead and said, "I'm gonna hack the camera up there. When I wave you in, you'll have thirty seconds to get in the alley. There'll be a second camera at the end of the alley, so park the truck when you're two car-lengths inside."
Isaac then slipped out of the truck again and strolled along the sidewalk, watching the red beam of light that only he could see sweep back and forth across the concrete and pavement. He waited until the camera was facing away from him before he positioned himself directly beneath it. He then pulled out his handheld, shot a dart up into the camera, and hacked it to loop old, uneventful footage. Isaac then waved the cat man into the alley. Looping the footage wouldn't change the fact that the truck most likely had a tracker on it, but it would at least let the cat man make a turn without covering his face for once.

Crowlin nodded, a smile hidden under the balaclava as he continued driving. He has to admit that having someone to work with who knew what they were doing certainly made things easier on trips like this. He scanned his eyes as well as he made his way down the road towards the border.
The next intersection was coming up and Crowlin's eyes looked to Isaac as his co-conspirator instructed him on how to proceed, eliciting a slightly raised eyebrow but certainly no complaints to join it. The leo proceeded as recommended, waiting a couple of seconds, turning right, and pulling the left side of his hood forward to cover his face from the camera's view.
"Neat trick, Blue."
Things continued smoothly, but Crowlin preferred not to be in something as large and conspicuous as the truck for very long. He made another turn and took a slightly deeper breath as the alley he was headed towards started coming up. It seemed as though Isaac had the same idea. Crowlin's golden eyes looked to the thief again as he requested the stop, doing so but hoping that he didn't plan on having them stopped out in the open for long. Fortunately it seemed that Blue had his reasons and Crowlin nodded in agreement as the passenger stepped out and went to go hack the camera.
Crowlin waited for the signal, put the truck in gear, once again a mildly bumpy process, and coasted rather quickly into the alleyway, coming to a stop not too far into the narrow passage. He quickly shut the engine off and tugged his balaclava up a little bit more for personal assurance that it was still there. He then made sure his tech was collected and stowed in their rightful places before turning and hopping out of the truck, shutting the door behind him and patting the side of the vehicle.
"That could have gone worse."

“Still can,” said Isaac. “We need to hurry.” He moved to the back of the truck and opened the door. The duo would only be able to smuggle a few boxes each—nowhere near as much as this truck could hold—but a single box would be a feast for the Slums. Isaac went to see how many he could carry. The boxes weighted differently, but he wasn’t sure what was inside, and there wasn’t time to check. He could only pick and choose a few different weights to reach his personal limit. He set four light-weight boxes aside and then took the top one from his pile.
With his first box in hand, Isaac made his way down the alley and scanned the camera up above him. “This one’s got a blind spot,” he told the cat man. Isaac then pressed his back against the wall and shuffled directly beneath the camera, holding the box vertically and up against his chest. “Stay along the wall and you won’t get spotted.” Surely the cat man would then be smart enough to wait for the camera to look away before approaching the adjacent wall—the one they would have to climb to get into the Middle Class.
Isaac displayed his acrobatics as he clambered over the wall with only one hand—his other hand holding the box against his stomach. When he landed on the other side, he set the box down, climbed back over, and returned to the alley with the truck. He repeated this with the rest of the boxes in his pile, getting the second and third across with the same ease.
When Isaac went for his fourth box, though, he heard sirens wailing in the distance. “Took them long enough,” he said before grabbing his last box and heading for the wall. He waited for the camera to look away before vaulting over the wall. The sirens drew closer, but Isaac and his fellow thief had a good head start.
Grabbing all four of his boxes, Isaac bolted down the Middle Class alley. Security was still tight, but compared to the Upper Class, Isaac felt free and clear. Still, he kept his eyes peeled. If the Middle Class police hadn’t been set on alert yet, they would be soon.

Crowlin walked down to the end of the truck and watched with mild complacency. He’d managed to accomplish what he wanted to get out of their little heist, testing himself and inconveniencing the police as much as he wanted for one day. Isaac’s desire to steal some of the food from the back and get it all the way down to the slums was something that the leo had little interest in. Moving across that much distance carrying that much was something that Crowlin had difficulty believing he could ever get excited about. It was a lot of risk to getting caught, after all.
That being said, Crow didn’t mind the prospect of having a contact like this if he ever needed a little help getting something else done. He decided to compromise a bit on that, helping enough to at least make a difference. He reached into the truck and grabbed two boxes, both of which were slightly heavier than the ones Isaac took, so the hacker worked it out to about 3/5 of Blue’s take by weight. Crowlin didn’t want to be encumbered by holding so many boxes anyway.
He picked up his load and followed his accomplice down the alleyway, sticking against the wall already and listening for the go ahead to start making their move. Normally the hacker would have already been on the rooftops and out of the area, but seeing as he was going to participate in the secondary objective for the evening, he figured he’d trust Blue’s apparent knack for slipping around active security systems. Crowlin had to admit that his was a bit out of his element at the moment.
Soon enough, the coast was clear and Crowlin followed Isaac out. He had a bit more muscle to work with, and so the hacker was able to handle pulling the two boxes that he’d stolen up and over the wall one at a time without too much difficulty. He watched and waited from the middle class side as Isaac looked back towards the incoming police sirens before vaulting with his last box.
“They don’t usually expect us baddies in the upper district.”
Crowlin was quick to tug his balaclava up again before picking up his two boxes, the two of them bolting down the alley with the leo purposefully lagging slightly behind. He still had some self-preservation in mind after all.
“You want to cross into the lower district towards the east or west side?”
