Name of Business: The Blast Furnace
Purpose of Business: The Blast Furnace is an old-fashioned steakhouse that harkens back to simpler days. A variety of grilled and smoked meats are served, along with hearty side-dishes. While a middle-class establishment, only the finest cuts of meat are used, carefully selected, cut, tenderized, and seasoned typically by Gabir himself.
Typical side dishes include roasted potatoes, brunswick stew, macaroni and cheese, and coleslaw. All dishes are prepared from scratch in-house, meaning wait times can get a bit long if the restaurant is crowded. To mitigate this, each table is furnished with a bucket of roasted, salted peanuts. Customers are free to just throw the shells on the floor.
The drink variety is typical for a steakhouse, consisting of water, fountain soda, juice, and beer.
Parties can be held here, but in the interest of fairness reservations are not allowed. Police are only charged half-price.
Location: In the suburbs of the middle-class district, surrounded by various other small businesses.
Layout Description: The Blast Furnace consists of three main areas- The Dining Room, The Grill, and The Smoker. The dining room has a very old, rustic look about it that may be seen as exotic in modern times. The tables and chairs are all handmade from wood, carefully sanded, finished, and polished. Due to so much use, they typically have many dings and scratches, though some would argue this only gives the place a more homely feel. The establishment is rather small. leaving room for only ten tables. The floor of the dining room is usually coated in sawdust in the interest of keeping the floor dry even in the event of spills. But don't worry, the sawdust is swept up and replaced on a regular basis.
The grill consists of a large, open kitchen that allows customers to see just what the chef is doing. Various spice and pan racks are mounted on the walls, and the grill itself is actually split into three sections- a flat hibachi grill, an old propane flame grill, and a more modern ridged electric grill. A fourth cooking area is essentially just an oversized stove used for cooking side dishes in bulk. The back of the kitchen opens up into a large walk-in freezer where large racks of beef and pork are hung on hooks. Chickens are kept whole, and are periodically thawed throughout the day as needed.
The smoker is just what it sounds like - a smoker. It consists of its own room, and the woods used can be smelled throughout the entire establishment. Larger meat cuts are typically smoked overnight, meaning anyone on the same block as The Blast Furnace can easily smell the deliciousness.
Other: A police-friendly establishment that has zero tolerance for disrespect of the law. Troublemakers are typically thrown out personally by Gabir. Families and children are more than welcome. A jukebox is available for anyone to use, and contains most genres of music, although the songs are typically a decade or more old. Owned by Gabir El-Hashem.
