Appearance: X X
Personality: Elgen is a rather snarky, sarcastic character, as he sees little reason to act civil to people who aren't his superiors. He’s blunt when speaking, occasionally adding insults for that extra flavor. In fact, he has an incredibly dirty mouth no matter who he's addressing. It goes without saying that he's pretty stubborn and frequently butts heads with even the most laidback of people. "No big deal?" He doesn't believe in that phrase. Everything is a big deal and shouldn't be treated as anything less than important. Unless it's something he plain doesn't care about. In that case, he lets it slide. After all, why should Elgen waste his time on matters that don't pertain to him? It should come as no surprise to anyone that he is very impulsive and prefers doing everything solo if possible. In a roundabout way, this is beneficial since it eliminates the need for people to be forced into contact with him. A team player he is not.
On his good days, however, he's slightly more agreeable, especially if you happen to be a "valued" person in society. Or a cook. Elgen has a weakness for sweets and tends to indulge in them whenever he leaves the office. Otherwise, he's a no-nonsense type that prides himself on his dedication to the job. Interfere with his duties and he'll never let you forget it. Perhaps it's why even though his attitude would bar him from work elsewhere, it guarantees he'll dish out full punishments on the scum of Novus-- namely Vigilantes, Scavengers, and other various criminals. It's not that Elgen has a strong sense of justice. It's just that these people are trying to toy with his ideal world and frankly, he won't stand for it. Guarantees job security.
Background: Elgen is not native to Novus. He came from another city to the Tourist District when he was around 8 years old-- old enough to remember the incessant teasing he received from classmates over his strange origins. Already a stubborn child to begin with, this only turned him bitter from a young age. Fights and "reeducation" were a staple of his elementary school life, but eventually Elgen learned to calm his hair trigger temper as he progressed to his preteen years. By this point, he'd gained a reputation for refusing to put up with any kind of attention he deemed negative. Socializing didn't come easy to him, especially since most were afraid to interact with him lest they bring about his wrath. Being seen as a force to be feared gave him a bit of an ego boost that eventually manifested itself as pride in the later part of his life.
Growing up was a lonely existence for Elgen without those to call friends. His mother's passing from illness when he was 11 years old didn't help matters. Through his father's tireless work, the both of them moved into the upper Middle Class District, where living became much easier. However, it did little to make him happy. He won't admit to it but he secretly blames his father for not having gotten the promotion sooner, as Middle Class medicine might've saved his mother from death. Needless to say, the two of them aren't on great standing with each other.
Elgen gained attention for his growing aptitude for physical strength as he grew into his teens. It was the one thing he prided himself in (mostly to be as intimidating as possible). Police work didn't sound very appealing to him, though the thought of being the judge, jury, and executioner was the motivation he needed to continue on the straight and narrow until his test at 16. Perhaps it was childhood bullying that imprinted on him the need to reign over other people that propelled him to aim for a spot in the Secret Police. Through no genuine want to keep real peace and justice, this goal was the only thing that kept Elgen going until he was selected to join.[/ul]
