Today it was raining in the slums. You'd think that having complete control of the weather would make one, y'know, take advantage of it, but as far as Mal knew, the climate decided to take a particularly stinky dump on her, as if it had something personal against her very existence. That was to say, it was raining in the slums. Hard. A flash storm practically sweeping away all of the morning's sunlight under the rug and practically forgotten. Mal found herself caught in the downpour and had to take off her jacket to use as a makeshift shield against the elements— and boy, when it rained, it sure poured. She was a good half hour walk away from her home and her sandwich shop, and that made her pretty irritable. Not only was she stuck in an old bookstore, she was also soaking wet— and she didn't know when she'd be able to leave.
She sat outside the store front, huddling on the pavement underneath a bit of tarp that functioned as a roof for the shop. The old man inside offered to let her come in, but she refused, being stubborn and not in the mood for small talk. She knew the owner well enough— a tan, wrinkly old man who sold nearly defunct USB sticks with independent literature and articles written onto them —but he had this annoying tendency to never shut his trap, asking too many dang questions about how her business was doing, or how her brother was, or how her parents were (as if she gave a fuck about them) and frankly, Mal was not the talkative type.
So she banished herself out under a tarp, in the middle of a storm, where she sat on a wet stretch of pavement, soaked to the bone.
She was not in a good mood. She hoped that she'd at least be left alone until the storm lightened up— she barely talked to anyone much today and, quite honestly, she preferred to keep it that way.
