Three targets. 100 Yards. Three shots in quick succession.
Kendra let out a small sigh, the scent of gun powder filling her sense and keeping her alert to the lack of others in the shooting range. Her targets moved closer, stopping close enough for her to see the exact impact point. Two perfect head shots, the third directly through the center of the chest. Exactly what she wanted. Even if she didn't need to practice, it was a nice stress relief. There was no denying her anger from the last encounter with Samuel still lingered harshly on her skin - leaving a disgustingly bitter taste in her mouth.
The gun felt smooth in her grip, and she twisted it around for a moment before beginning to disassemble the weapon and setting it to the side for later. She'd need to clean the chambers and make sure everything was aligned. Next, she picked up an energy pistol. Multiple settings were on the weapon, though she set it to kill instead of stun and once more pushed the targets out. She took aim as the moved father away, firing twice against all three of them while they moved farther away.
The plastic and paper began to burn, flames licking at the edge of the target holder while she lowered the weapon and watched. Maybe she should invest in an elemental weapon. Having fire rounds would be useful, especially with how devastating it could be.
Her face scrunched into a scowl, gun raised while she began to fire again once the flames died down. Each shot hit the mark, eventually ripping a hole into the target and sending the shot through towards the back wall. Why the fuck was she so angry? And when had she grown so soft?
It was disgusting.

Uriel made his way into the Secret Police headquarters to start his next standby shift, reaching up to rub the back of his neck and cracking it a couple times as he made his way down to the offices and to his desk. He sat down in the chair, the hydraulic support of the seat sinking hard before equalizing under the enforcer's immense weight. He turned on his computer, checking to see if there were any messages waiting for him, and to his slight dismay there were only a couple of intra-department emails regarding upcoming events, inspections, etc.
*Looks like it's going to be a slow day.*
Uriel supposed there wasn't much more to do other than some self-improvement while he waited to hear if there was a call for SP intervention in some part of Novus. He stood up from his desk and started making his way down to the training level where the department had a gym, firing range, live-fire obstacle course, and a fair amount more. Having all of that at his disposal was certainly something that Uriel couldn't complain about, especially considering how often he used it. After all there weren't too many places that had weights that went up to the blonde behemoth's training level.
He decided that it would be best to get some practice in with firearms first though before he started working his body, and so Uriel soon made his way into the firing range where he heard the final shots exit the muzzle of a rifle and punch clean holes in the head and chest of a paper target. He casually strode over towards the firing lane, seeing Kendra's familiar red hair and black and red garb as she finished disassembling the weapon and picking up an energy pistol...nasty weapon that could be at the highest power setting.
Uriel's eyebrow raised slightly as the targets quickly burst into flames and he barely spotted the irritable expression on Kendra's face from the angle behind her he was standing at, the tank becoming slightly concerned.
"Poor targets must have done something horrible."

Footsteps. No doubt someone had joined her in the room, and there wasn't much reason to stop her practice. If someone had broken into a Secret Police building, they would have been dead before even getting far enough towards the shooting range. She kept her eyes on the burning target even when she assessed the size of her new companion. There weren't many that cast a shadow quite so far, or had footsteps quite so heavy. Uriel.
That voice only confirmed her suspicion.
"You're right. It's an insufferable prick that deserves to burn." A bitter laugh fell from her lips as she fire once more. The target crumbled and burned, falling to the ground below into a pile of ash. She set the weapon down and rolled her left shoulder before shaking her right wrist out. A sigh left her lips as she placed the weapon down, taking a moment to compose herself before turning to face the man that happened to have come across her.
Arms crossed over her chest while Kendra leaned against her weapon table, a small crooked grin on her face. People always said it looked as if she was up to something when that grin spread across her face. Too bad for her, she shared the look with her brother - who actually got in trouble. A silly thing to remember, considering how far their paths had diverged from one and other.
"Hello there, Uriel. Busy day, hm? You seem absolutely swamped with work." Kendra said with a laugh following, a short and sweet sound she rarely used. It wasn't often she could relax, true - but being in the safety of her own building helped with that to an extent.
"How are you? It's been a while."

Uriel raised his eyebrow slightly by the response that Kendra had given. His eyes looked to the target down range burning to ash and drifting slowly to the ground. It was rather obvious to the enforcer that the paper was hardly the subject of what she was talking about, not that she had done much to hide it. Rather, it seemed as though there was someone out there who had gotten on Kendra’s bad side and, given her reputation for accuracy, said person stood the chance of having body parts taken off piece by piece with whatever gun she had at the time.
The odd smile that spread on her lips gave the impression that such a thing was certainly on the table in the near future, but that was perhaps a bit much and in their line of work it was good not to have distractions like raging anger towards someone. Maybe this was a good opportunity for some exercise for the both of them, but there was an even better method for stress relief that Uriel had up his sleeve. He smiled and nodded, enjoying the more relaxed atmosphere that they had around the base.
“I’m doing quite well. And oh yes, completely buried with work. So much so, I decided I needed a break as soon as I got here. On that note though, I think I have something down here that you’ll enjoy as well.”
He smirked a bit before turning and heading into the arms and equipment room next to the range. After a little, the large man walked back out with three things in his possession; a large Vulcan minigun held by its handle in his left hand, a large box of chained ammunition under his left arm, and a posable mannequin under his right. He walked up to the range lane next to Kendra’s and set the equipment down before pressing the button between the lanes to call for safety. He grabbed the mannequin again and walked down about 25 meters before standing it up to face the shooter. He then walked back and started hooking up the ammunition to the chamber intake.
He wasn’t sure if she’d ever used the Vulcan before, there weren’t many in the SP who really cared to touch it in favor of more precise weaponry. But for Uriel, there wasn’t a better weapon when it came to intimidation and power….and letting off some steam. He looked back to Kendra with a smirk on his face and welcomed her to join him at the lane.
“So besides the paper target, is there anyone else who’s on your blacklist that you’d like to see a few new holes in?”

Their line of work actually made for the perfect time to have directional anger. After all, they were above the normal laws. They were the law. Judge, jury, and executioner. And more than a few officers abused that fact – Though Kendra wasn’t one of those. Ah, but it didn’t matter. If she was told to take down a SP member like that, she would do so without hesitation.
“Sometimes I wonder how they even expect us to do any fieldwork with the amount of reports we have to fill out at times.” A laugh fell from her lips, though her guarded position didn’t change in the least. At his offer of ‘something else’, a brow raised. What could he have in mind, especially in the equipment room?
Kendra continued to lean on the table while she waited, eyes closed and head downturned. She honestly had no idea what the man could be gathering, but from the metallic banging and shuffling she could hear in the other room, there wasn’t much doubt that it involved a weapon. And when he came out and began to set up, his idea of stress relief was clear enough.
“I didn’t even realize we had one of those in there.” She said in a slight tone of awe, her gloved hands instantly going out to run along the barrel while Uriel fed the bullets into the gun. Bulky design, not something she would typically want to use. He was right, she preferred the precision of a handgun or rifle. Especially a long range bolt action rifle.
“Really, I’d love to set him on fire if I’m being honest.” She motioned for Uriel to back up a bit while she lifted the weapon up, no struggle from the weight against her small frame. “Though, I feel I’m justified seeing as the asshole said I needed to seriously pay him for just a kiss, even when we were just joking around. No free services my ass, why do I have to…” She cut herself off and clenched her jaw, raised the gun and watched as the barrel began to spin.
“I just… Hate him!” The gun roared to life to echo the fury in her voice, bullets making quick work of the mannequin while she fire for about 10 seconds before calming down and letting the fire die out. That was enough, Samuel would know his place the next time she saw him.
She paused for a moment, flushing bright red.
“I’m… I’m so sorry, Uriel. I suddenly just took the gun and used it and told you part of my problems. I’m such an idiot, I’m sorry. That was incredibly selfish of me.”

Uriel gave a chuckle before heading in to get his little surprise. At least for the moment, the paperwork was slow mainly because there hadn’t been much activity at all recently that required intervention from their department. When the time came that they did get something done in the field for the city, lord knew that they would usually be buried in paperwork for the next few days listing out every detail and action that they could remember so the public side of law enforcement could keep their asses covered and the analysts could keep an eye out for any patterns or concerns in what happened for future ops.
He enjoyed the look that Kendra gave as he brought the weapon out and started prepping it to be fired. The Vulcan really was more or less his even if it belonged to the department. There weren’t many who could wield it effectively with its weight and the need to be firmly planted when firing, so not many even touched it.
“You’re not the only one. It doesn’t get brought out much, but I keep it clean for whenever the SP finds a need for it.”
After a moment, he’d gotten the ammo chain hooked up and the first round chambered as Kendra started opening up a bit. He backed up and to the side a little as she decided to feel out the weapon, picking it up and looking it over. He hoped that she already knew how to use it, but he had a feeling he was going to find out anyway. There was little doubt in Uriel’s mind that Kendra would have much rather had seen whoever she was talking about standing down range rather than the mannequin, and from the sound of it the guy and really gotten on her bad side for a very bad reason. Nothing like breaking someone’s trust to piss them off.
He could hear the cadence of her voice changing and the anger building and he casually brought his hand up to push the second button at the lane to signal ‘range active’ before putting on his pair of safety glasses. As the gun spooled up, he stepped a little closer behind Kendra, ready to quickly take hold of the weapon if it slipped from her control at all. Fortunately her grip on the Vulcan proved quite strong as the box of ammunition was emptied into the mannequin that now lay in pieces on the range floor, except for the shins and feet which marked where the dummy previously stood.
A moment later Kendra realized what had happened with a red blushing face, and Uriel could only grin and let out a laugh as he half-hugged her with his arm in an attempt to calm her a bit.
“Not at all. That’s exactly why I brought it out in the first place. Besides, you look pretty damn good firing it.”
His grin turned to a relaxed and playful smile, trying to ease both Kendra and the mood a bit more.
“Maybe I should get another box of ammo.”

Kendra tenses at the touch, her hands clenching tightly to the point her knuckles turned white. Though, thanks to the glove covering her organic hand, and the fact of her other arm being a prosthetic - He shouldn’t have noticed. Gods above, she still hadn’t gotten used to being touched so casually by other people.
“You’re really large.” She said in a blunt tone, her face once again flushing red as she stepped away from Uriel and ran a hand through her bangs. Maybe Samuel had a point all those years ago. She really was awkward at times. “What I mean is… Um.” She cleared her throat and turned towards the shooting range, hands resting on the table. “Thank you. For the compliment, I mean. Though, I don’t think I’ll be adopting a mini gun as my main weapon, even if I could lug it around without much difficulty.”
It had been quite some time since Kendra had spent time with someone outside of Samuel. Sure, there were lunch breaks and random meetings – But for the most part, she was silent at those. Too many things to look over and deal with at the time. So she needed to branch out. Uriel seemed like a good start, right? She hoped so.
“I wouldn’t want to waste too much of the ammo. I might end up punching a hole through the wall next time.” A small laugh fell from her lips, hand rising to cover her mouth and muffle the sound. Ah, there it was again. Her bad habit. Her eyes peeked over her hand, moving up to lock eyes with the behemoth of a man.
“If you want to get another box though, I wouldn’t mind you watching.”

Uriel was a patient person, which often came as a surprise to a lot of people. They usually lopped him in with either the lumbering berserker category or the gentle giant. So he ended up coming to understand the connotations for both, but the common denominator of it all was that he was, indeed, a large person.
He had to stop a laugh from escaping after the comment that Kendra decided to start off with. He knew better than to let that out given the moment and his colleague’s obvious discomfort. He simply smiled and waited for her to finish, letting her save as much face as she wanted. He nodded as he stepped towards the table again and started making sure that the minigun was clear.
“Of course. Wouldn’t want our sharpshooter’s accuracy ratio plummeting after all.”
He chuckled a bit as he opened the minigun’s chamber and let it slide back, expelling the last link from the previous run of ammunition before letting the barrel’s spool up and down again to make sure the bearings or the mechanism weren’t grinding at all. She didn’t seem too opposed to the idea of keeping the vulcan out for a little while longer, and he gave a smile as their eyes met. He had to admit, even given the nature of their work, it was nice to be able to have such casual interactions with his fellow SPs.
“I think it can handle a little more exercise. Besides, he still has shins and feet. We can’t be having that.”
He smirks and nods his head towards what little remained standing of what used to be a mannequin, then heads back to the equipment locker and pulling out another box of ammunition to hook up to the weapon.

Maybe she could learn a thing or two from him when it came to patience. Sure, normally she could handle things and wait for them to develop – But lately, that hadn’t been the case at all. Things had been too calm, or too predictable. There also happened to be a certain thorn in her side that she couldn’t quite figure out, which only frustrated her more.
But at least Uriel seemed content to wait for her to save face instead of making a smart comment. She appreciate it. He didn’t seem like too horrid of a person, after all.
“If something like this makes my accuracy plummet, then I’m not working hard enough.” It wasn’t her strong point for no reason. And there might have been the occasional time when she felt the need to brag. But once again, he left her alone and she leaned against the table, arms crossed and her expression falling while she mulled over her thoughts. At least it didn’t take him too long, and the smile was back on her face once he peeked around the corner.
“Now you’re just supporting a nasty habit forming.” Kendra let out a laugh, her hand running over the hot barrel while he loaded up the next ribbon of ammunition. She knew it would have burned her right hand, but the prosthetic for her left didn’t really give such a reaction. The heat felt good, and it helped to remind her focus was a better reaction than anger. Didn’t really stop her from overthinking, however.
This time around, the last of the mannequin ripped into pieces. There wasn’t much of a reason for her to go after the legs ( unless it was a shoot to immobilize instead of to kill, but technicalities ), but it still felt good. A sigh left her lips once she set the weapon down again, letting her fingers linger on the handle for a moment. Metal and gunpowder. It was a scent she enjoyed more than she cared to admit.
“Here I am taking all your time. I do appreciate it, though. But shouldn’t you be training yourself? Or did you want to just come and see a pretty girl shooting a big weapon off?” Samuel could say she wasn’t attractive all he wanted, but that damn sure didn’t stop others from thinking so. Ass. He was such an ass.

Uriel gave an amused exhale at Kendra’s comment, the remark dripping with confidence and a fair bit of boastfulness. Though she wasn’t wrong either, as the countless rounds of ammunition that she’d fired much more precisely before today would keep her accuracy ratio standing strong even against a couple of ammo boxes for the minigun.
“Me, assisting such habits? Never. Nasty is such a strong word anyway.”
He checked the weapon with a laugh; clearing the chamber, checking the spool alignment, and hooking up the second set of chain-ammo for Kendra to have fun with. Watching her hand run over one of the barrels didn’t go unnoticed by him, and he gathered that she was either a mild masochist or her hand was prosthetic. He bet on the latter given her lack of reaction to the heat, though if he knew she had that then he’d forgotten in the past years. Soo enough, the weapon was ready to be fired again and he stepped back as his colleague took up the minigun and reduced what remained of the mannequin to shreds.
Her reaction and satisfaction after emptying the box of ammunition made Uriel wonder what this person had done to get under her skin like that. Especially for people in their profession, it could be dangerous to have a distraction like that and was probably best to do away with that if possible. He wasn’t going to get involved with that however, or at least bring up the topic. If Kendra wanted to talk about something like that with him then she was more than welcome to, but he would let her deal with it on her own as well if she so chose.
The smell of gunpowder was quite strong now and Uriel wouldn’t deny enjoying the scent, like the afterglow of sharp physical power hanging in the air. He looked to Kendra and laughed as he stepped to the minigun and expended the final bullet link from the weapon, closing the ammo box and getting ready to set the weapon off on the back table of the range to cool before he put it away.
“I’d say both. Plenty of time for me to train unless we get called to a scene anyway.”
