The siren let out into the morning sky, the sunshine on the buildings was a contradiction to what would of been a peaceful morning. Rakuen ran towards the fire, hopefully it looked like only one building was one fire this time. Please just be a domestic fire, she thought to herself.
But when came those sirens, came the secret police to crack down on innocent lives in catching the vigilantes. And sure enough they were there. But Rakuen didn't engage with them, focused on the burning building. People ran out of it, and the only sounds that came from the building were the crackling of fire, no signs of life in there, and if she really wanted to go in to find any trapped souls she was too late, the fire consumed it all.
The rabbit gave a look of disappointment and disgust, watching it all in flames. A scream though snapped her out of it, seeing there was still civilians being terrorized by vigilantes and secret police alike. She ran to them, kicking the offenders away and quickly running with the victims to the shadows of the streets where it seemed safe and told them to run, seeing the secret police go after her. Smiling she outran them, hopped over cars and piles of flaming rubble to avoid them, finding a small alley alcove for a dumpster where she could escape. She was home free until she heard the click of a gun in back of her.
"Freeze! Don't move, bitch."
She couldn't see him directly behind her. Rakuen dared not to move, her body frozen not because she was told but by the sheer fear that swept through her. Her eyes were side and her heart raced, sweat beaded on her face from the blistering fire. Her memory of her dad passing passed through her mind like a slideshow, she trembled at the thought. Maybe she was too rash going out to save people in the daylight. Maybe she could of taken a backdoor plan next time.
Maybe it was just her time now.
Rakuen trembled when she heard another click of the gun, she knew she was done for.

Another morning had come and Crowlin’s leg was feeling much better, the burn having already healed a fair amount in the past few days. There was certainly more than just his improving injury that was on his mind for the past while though. For now though he was interested in making his way to the coffee shop for a little morning treat. As he made his way there though, he heard the sound of a fire engine’s siren in the distance. That wasn’t particularly unusual however, but there was something that bugged the lion about it that he couldn’t shake. The situation felt…off.
He started making his way over towards the area where the sirens were moving, hoping he only postponed his coffee and soon spotting the black smoke that was rising from the city block. He made his way up onto the rooftops and made his way closer until he was on the opposite side of the street from the building that he now saw was completely engulfed in flames. He wasn’t sure what had triggered the blaze or why there were so many people around, but the whole area was in chaos. People running, cops chasing and arresting several, he wasn’t sure what on earth could have happened to trigger this, but it certainly couldn’t have been good and there wasn’t really much that Crowlin could have done at this point either.
After a moment however, his eyes caught on a familiar sight, the young woman who he’d met with the other night and who, indeed true to form, was there no doubt trying to help people escape the chaotic scene. He watched from his vantage point as she gave a few good kicks at some aggressors before running off into the alleyway. He moved to follow on the rooftop, making sure that she got away safely and soon being very thankful that he had.
Looking over the edge of the roof, Crowlin watched as a police officer pulled his gun and aimed it at Rakuen’s back as she tried to escape. She was apparently aware of this as well as she stopped dead in her tracks, but Crow wasn’t about to let the cops get their hands on her even if he was unarmed. He quickly jumped from the 3rd story edge, grabbing the railing of the fire escape next to him to alter his trajectory. A moment later, he dropped down on the cop, driving his forearm into the back of his neck to knock the officer out. Crowlin really disliked violence in general, but he recognized the need for it on certain occasions. Even so, killing someone was always a last resort to be avoided as much as possible.
The metal of the gun gave a heavy click as it his the pavement and came to rest next to the cop, Crowlin standing back up and looking to the rabbit-cat hybrid with a smile.
“You okay?”

Rakuen was sure this was sure this was last second she had one earth, and there was so much she wanted to do more. She closed her eyes and tucked her ears down, shedding a single tear.
Then there came several thuds and a meal click of the gun. It wasn't shooting, but hitting the concrete road. Rakuen, trembling she turned around slowly to see what happened, her heart beating fast when she heard a familiar, now comforting voice.
She couldn't believe it. She was saved by Crowlin? How did he know she was here, when she needed it the most? Tears weld up in her eyes, her steps towards him shaking from fear and ran to him, into his arms hugging him tight as she full- out cried. "Oh, Crowlin-- I was so scared--" she wept, her body still trembling from it all, "Crowlin--" she leaned up to do something impulsive and irrational, but it was a sign of gratitude. She didn't even know what she was doing, kissing Crowlin not exactly his cheek, but not exactly his lips either, just an askew kiss that lasted a second or two. "Thank you, thank you." She hugged him tighter, just... so happy she was alive and going through her father's demise.

Crowlin was glad to see that he’d made it in time, watching as Rakuen turned around to face him and realized who he was. It seemed as though the situation had shaken her a bit more than he expected, not that having a gun pointed at you would ever be a pleasant experience. After a couple seconds of silence, he watched as she ran to him, her arms quickly wrapping around him and Crowlin returning the gesture, one arm wrapping around her back and the other reaching up to hold her head gently to his shoulder.
He could feel her practically shaking in his embrace as the tears streamed down her cheeks. A moment after his attention caught and he looked to her as she leaned up and kissed the corner of his lips for a second.
O//-//O
He certainly wasn’t expecting her to do that, and his now burning face probably showed that quite clearly. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy that, but he certainly didn’t want the two of them to go through all of this again to get it. Instead the same corner of his lips curled up slightly into a smile as he hugged her a little tighter and let his hand gently stroke over her hair, hoping to give her a little more feeling of security as she recovered from the incident.
“Of course, Rakuen. Everything’s gonna be alright.”

It felt good to be hugged like so. Rakuen felt calmer, but it didn't shake the feeling of being in grave danger. Her ears twitched as she heard a smoldering piece of rubble from the burning apartment complex came crashing down, remembering that there was still a raid going on and yes, she DID almost got killed that wasn't a dream a few seconds ago. Her amber eyes darted left and right before letting Crowlin go, seeing there was no more civilians in trouble.
"C'mon, we have to get out of there!" Rakuen took Crowlin by the wrist and made haste, running lightly but quickly through the cover of dark smoke, nearly jumping high when she needed to quick turn and guide Crowlin out of there.
Anywhere. Anywhere but here.
But escaping is never easy. There was always a Secret police looking for people to take an easy way out, and ambush them. Rakuen was only lucky to have good hearing and the agility and accuracy of a rabbit to get out of tight jams. But with Crowlin, it was a bit harder. "Watch it!" he said to Crowlin, hearing someone from the left hidden by smoke the crackling of a energy gun and a loud boom after that, being shot at them Rakuen had no choice but to kick Crowlin to the right whilst projecting herself to the left, they nearly avoided the shot only getting any exposed kin singed just a little for a minor burn.

Crowlin took a deep breath as he held Rakuen close. It was an enjoyable but intense moment for him, but that didn’t change what was happening around the two of them. There were still numerous police around and the two of them standing near to an unconscious officer on the pavement would definitely not look good. They needed to find a way out and it seemed that Rakuen agreed with his thought.
He gave her a nod as he turned and ran with her, his wrist in her grasp as the two of them looked for their escape route. A moment later he felt the impact of Rakuen’s leg against his body, confusing the hacker for a moment but soon realizing what she’d done as an energy bolt rushed past them and Crowlin felt the intense heat radiating off of it as the projectile slammed into the wall of the building behind them, burning the stone face with a black circle. He looked to Rakuen with adrenaline filled eyes, his voice slightly hushed to try and avoid anyone else hearing even over the sound of the burning structure nearby.
“Get to the roof, stay towards the middle of the buildings, and stay low as you move. I’ll be right there with you. Go.”
He turned and ran to a wheeled metal dumpster close by, planting his feet and pivoting to start pushing it towards the smoky alleyway where the shot had come from. He continued pushing it from behind to protect him from any other shots fired towards him, and soon let it go with enough speed to carry it forward. Crow then turned and jumped onto a stone window sill, then onto a fire escape, climbing up the side of the building like a street cat and trying to get out of any police sight while they were distracted with the dumpster. As he climbed the few stories to the top, he kept an eye out for Rakuen hoping she was making progress and the two of them could break out of the perimeter.

"What? W-wait, Crowlin--" Rakuen tried to reach him but was too late, he already moved to push the dumpster at whoever was shooting at them, and presumably got them in the dark thick smoke. Rakuen gritted her teeth and bolted away, running on one side of a building to find a way up. There was a fire escape on one of them, but it too was catching on fire. What choice did Rakuen have at that point?
Rakuen leaped for it, cursing how short she was she managed to jump several time before she finally reached the bar, dangling on it for a good couple of seconds, making sure she wasn't being followed. But with the smoke no one could see her, and she couldn't see them, or even where Crowlin was. "Nnngh!" She grunted, pulling herself up and little by little moving her arms higher on the bars, eventually getting her rabbit feet claws to cling onto the ladder-like escape and climbed, once on the first floor fire escape landing she could up there faster with jumping each floor landing. 3rd story, 4th story, and soon hitting the rooftop, her tired hands bled a little from the rusty poles and rough turf of the roof. She gasped for air but didn't stop moving, only stopping when she found herself on the edge of the burning building. Her feet was getting hotter, the flames chased her. She had to get off this roof and quick.
Looking at the building next to this one but not very close by, she was hesitating to jump. But she had not time to catch nerves, the roof below her started to creak and slowly giving way from her weight, the flames poking out to lick her feet, making her cream and just go it. She jumped. She screamed a little, but not enough to catch anyone's attention except maybe the scurrying civilians running away from the burning building, she missed the next rooftop and began falling, her hands desperately clawing for the roof. Luckily though she grabbed onto the drainpipe and bug her nails into it, stopping her fall. But she was too heavy, the pipe ripping off the side of the building and slowly bending down. "Dammit, don't f--" she jumped off it, revealing indents where her powerful feet kicked off as she sailed for the rooftop, crashing on the ledge and rolling into the middle of it.
She gasped and couldn't control her heavy breathing, backing up until she hit her back on a chimney that was billowing warm smoke into the cold air, no longer was it sunny but overcast. She shivered, holding her hands to her stomach as she tried to warm them, blistered and beaten up from her escape. And all she could do was wait for Crowlin, if Crowlin was still alive... The warmth of the chimney kept her calm, but her shifting eyes and moving head showed just how worried she was.
"Crowlin..."

Crowlin wasn't entirely sure how he was going to scale the other side of the building. The dumpster he rolled at the cops through the smoke hopefully took their attention long enough for his to figure something out. He was fortunate enough to find the second floor window and its stone windowsill to start him off, leaping onto the fire escape and not even bothering with the stairs. Instead he jumped from one railing ledge to the next, leaping up from floor to floor until he reached the ledge of the roof, pulling himself up with some effort given the flood of sensations he had, the mild burn of his skin from the energy shot that nearly hit them, the sting of his hands and fingers from the climb, the pound of his heart from the physical exerction and the moment he shared with Rakuen. It was a hell of a way to start the day, that was for sure.
He looked over at the other rooftop just in time to see Rakuen's slender figure silouetted in the smoke as she leaped to the next building and pulled herself up. He breathed a sigh of relief seeing her get further away from the danger, but he wasn't out of the woods yet. He looked down over the ledge to see the cops in the alleyway looking around searching for the two of them, and he quickly pulled back again intent on not giving them a reason to focus up. He needed to focus as well. The buildings were pretty packed together, but the two jumps he would have to make to follow after Rak were nothing to snuff at.
Crowlin took a deep breath and turned towards the first and the largest gap, crouching down and setting off. He started with fast sprinting steps then switched to long strides as he approched the edge, making a final leap and spanning the gap. He caught the raised ledge, holding onto the far corner while his arms rested across the stone, but that also came with a less than pleasant impact to his chest and legs against the side of the building. His fear that he would be heard was put to rest mid-jump too, as the roof of the burning building next to him started to collapse with a roaring thunder of flames and falling debris.
He took a deep breath and an uncomfortable groan as he pulled himself up off the ledge and caught his breath. He didn't have any time to waste however, and turned to make the second smaller jump. He repeated his steps and made the leap, this time clearing the gap and rolling to a stop as another part of the burning roof, now that much further away, collapsed. He gave a sigh and looked around, soon spotting the belt-ends of a green jacket resting on roof behind the brick of a chimney. He gave a weak smile and walked over towards Rak, hearing his name spoken softly as he neared.
He guessed that with her ears, she could probably hear him coming from the other side of the chimney even with the crackling of the building fire not too far from them. Even so, for a moment he rested a hand gently on her shoulder as he turned the corner, sitting down facing her. He didn't last long sitting though and lay back on the roof, letting his breath catch up to him as he looked to her and gave a light, albeit tired, smile.
"You called?"

Rakuen could hear the faint footsteps on the roof with her, the exhausted breathing of the man named Crowlin was at least calming to her now that the whole ordeal was over. She moved to look up to Crowlin when he touched her shoulder, watching him sit down to only fall over on his back as he fell into a more relaxed mode. She smiled and chuckled softly, but soon returned to her sullen, defeated frown.
"Crowlin, look out there." she said, her rabbit ears drooping down as she watched it with him, the warm light consuming them pleasant warmth but hideous sight of a neighborhood burning down right before their eyes. "How many more times does this have to happen?" she asked rhetorically, her arms coming up to hold herself more tightly, "I don't think I can stand this for any longer. I rather put my faith in surviving the salvage zones than to see all this beauty burn. Homes burn. People... burn."
For a moment Rakuen's face changed to a neutral one, but it was more negative than it was neutral. If someone was to stare right into her ambers, they would see the hope and life just leave the fiery determination that has always been within her, but only for a moment until they were sucked back into the ambers as she sighed and faced the reality of it, "But... then who would save them? Lead them out...?" She looked up to Crowlin, honestly he wasn't a friend to her yet, he was just a stranger that the more she thought how alone she was, the more and more she was feeling like she was closing into herself again. She didn't know what Crowlin did, or to really know what kind of side he was on. She herself was labled vigilante but only by default, being if she wasn't with the government, she was against it. But all she wanted was to help innocent lives. She could put faith in anyone, including Crowlin to ever help the people.
Rakuen scoffed softly, and rested her head in her knees, her fluffy jacket hiding her face from the outside world, "...I'm sure my mom would miss me."

Crowlin was glad to see that Rakuen was able to relax a little and smile, even if only for a moment, after their literal trail-by-fire. He propped his upper body up on his elbows as he looked off to the side with her, listening as the subject of their time together shifted from short-term survival towards the much longer time span. She wasn't wrong, the police and the government had always held this city with an iron grip, and often he would question how fair that grip was. The people who are forced to steal to survive, people who are forced to be branded as illegal simply for existing without the government having their eye on them whenever they wanted.
It ended up with good people either dying or never being seen again as they disappeared into the government's system for however long was deemed necessary. It was all very difficult to swallow, impossible even. After all, there was a reason why Crowlin had become a hacker, fighting where and how he could.
He looked to Rakuen as she seemed to be fighting an internal battle, one that he imagined she'd gone through many times before. He smiled a bit, enjoying seeing the mid-morning sun glowing off of her amber eyes and two-tone hair. There was a lot about her that Crowlin could admire. Her priorities were strong, and she was willing to put others ahead of herself, something that she'd demonstrated to him a couple times now.
"Well you could always pass letters to her. Parents just want their kids to be happy and healthy, and it's nice to know they care."
With a wider smile, it was at best a token thing for him to say, and Crowlin took a deep breath before looking to her eyes again, trying to reassure her.
"One day, the government will learn that there's a limit to what people will tolerate. We can bet on that. You're a good person, Rakuen, and I don't think there's anything in the world that could dispute that. Until that day comes though, all we can do is help as many people as we can and fight the police and government where we can."
Up until now Crowlin had just been a hacker who, at most, inconvenienced the police. Maybe this could be a way that he could make a more substantial difference with his skills. There was no doubt in his mind that Rakuen was trustworthy, someone who he could rely on...and maybe with some time Crowlin hoped she could come to rely on him too.
"You're not alone in this. Eventually we'll find what's needed to stop their cruelty, but until then we can help as many as we can. It might not seem like much, but I'm sure it makes a difference to each of those who make it out of something like this, right?"
He gives a gentle smile and gestures with a quick tilt of his head towards the burning building.
