PROMPT 3: COMPANIONSHIP
(featuring Sissil my new char soon)
"When your best friends are strung out, you'll do everything you can 'cause you're never gonna let it get em down
When you find it all around, yeah it comes in waves, but it's hardest from the start"
"You have GOT to try this!" screamed a young woman who came into the body art parlor, hair pink as cotton candy and snake bites that put real snake fangs to shame. It was obvious she was piercing specialist, but actually she was just an assistant, she was new. And Sissil still wasn't used to her antics of screaming all the time when she was excited. "This is so cool!" She said to the horn carver, who perked up to look as she was in mid-carving on bull horns of a client.
"What do you got there, Raina?"
"It's called Nanodachi! See you add software into your port and it'll activate this little guy--" Holding up what seemed to be a small doll, lifeless and bland looking, a white things that resembled a kokeshi doll. "And then your brain waves activates it and it's like-- you're bonded with it and it knows your feelings like it's real!"
A new kind of AI? Sissil thought to himself, wiping down the excess ink from a man's arm. Even if Sissil had a time-consuming job of being a tattoo engineer-- thought he rather call it tattooist-- he really disliked talking to clients, or even his coworkers. Listening to mindless banter and some things the clientele was enough to keep his mind occupied. The things was-- he can be super shy. he could be the best tattooist in the parlor but he'd still be modest and quiet all the time. And it made him a bit lonesome that way.
And that's why after work he went straight for the Nanodachi shop.
Sissil didn't know what he was doing. He wasn't even thinking. All he knew was that it sparked his interest and he wanted to try. The chip that had the software wasn't expensive, it was the doll itself was the expensive one. Odd.
Well, at least the shop was being run by timid interns, it was a rather quick and painless shopping. And by painless he really meant quiet and minimal talking.
Sissil walked down the street back home, past the body art shop he worked at and out of the business district, until a little
bing! in his head went off. Downloading the software sure didn't take that long, not as long as others... like a freaking alarm clock that had your choice of ringing, rooster crowing or barking. But he digressed, he activated the software to go wireless and focused on the lifeless white doll in his hands, watching for a long time. He could of sworn he saw it changing colors and taking form, that is until it did in a flash, rising up from his hands it generated a fake-holographic skin and hovered up to Sissil's eye-level, opening it's eyes it smiled.
"HIYA! NICE TO MEET YOU, SISSIL!"
Sissil stopped walking and became animated, jolting backwards at it, "HOW? How do you know my name?" Raina really wasn't kidding. It's like they
knew things about you.
"You told me just now." It giggled, then stared at Sissil, "I..." Then it acted shy, "I'm not scaring you, am I? You're giving off high levels of brain activity."
Sissil blinked and flinched, soon forgetting it was just a AI, "Oh-- n-no, I'm just surprised- that you-- uh- never mind."
"Okay. Well, to start off, did you want to give me a name?"
Sissil thought about that, and after a long pause he said nothing.
"We can do that later then." it said, hovering next to Sissil's shoulder as he walked.
Man, they did respond to brain waves-- or was it brain activity? Oh Sissil can never understand robot science. But after a few minutes of getting used to the doll, he smiled. It sure was cute, and heck-- it felt nice to have something to walk with when his house was on the other side of town. But while they walked the long way, the doll couldn't help but have a worried look on it's face, "I sense you want to talk."
"What? No! No I don't want to talk!" Sissil gave it another jolt backwards and a hand at his face waving off the embarrassment, thought never realizing he looked like a crazy idiot walking around and talking to a little thing in the air. Then the doll gave him a face, not believing anything he had said. Sissil sighed. "...Okay fine you win." Sissil looked downa nd started walking again. "You see-- I dunno, but I don't have many friends-- none, actually. And it gets a little lonesome, and well-- that why I bought you. The walk home is always boring, and hard when there's no one around. I don't talk much at work either because They get on my nerves. Their opinions on government. The stupid issues they have. I hate people, and then again I don't hate them And now I'm thinking it's crazy that I'm talking to a doll like you."
While the doll listened to Sissil, it made whirring noises as it processed it, and finally came to an easy simple question for Sissil from what it already knew of Sissil today, "Well-- you YOU feel stupid talking to me? What do you think of me?" it smiled. "I like you, you created me so I can keep you company, and I think that's a great reason to talk to me. Don't you think?"
Sissil wasn't sure if that was the power of this particular AI, or a company tactic to buy more products or just the reflection of his own thinking being re-brodcasted by this robot, but-- it was right. Who cares it he was talking to the Nanodachi. Who cares if it's even sane, or antisocial to. He never felt this excited or not bored in a long time, and before he knew it-- he was already back home.
"Thanks, Chang'Er." he said to the Nanodachi, who smiled at him warmly. "... I can call you Chang'Er, right?"
MEANWHILE, A FEW DAYS LATER AND A LITTLE IMMATURITY...
