Uriel found it interesting that there was an element of teamwork that was used on the coming expedition, curious to see how it would be used as they progressed through the tour. One of the names on the roster caught the officer’s attention, reminded of one of his grandfather’s old books, one of the more interesting ones.
Uriel nodded to their tour guide and followed after him as the event began, and it didn’t take long at all for things to get into full swing. The bunch found themselves descending deep into the ground with only a handful of torches to keep them from having no idea where they were or where they were going. The numerous unsettling sounds were a nice touch, but Uriel found them to be more of a discomfort on his ears than anything particularly scary.
The distraction from that would arrive soon enough as the group found themselves at one edge of a large pit with three options to make their way across to the other side. Uriel raised an eyebrow slightly, knowing that the options for him were very limited at best. Considering he weighed about five hundred pounds, taking the route of the ropes and especially the bridge were methods he wouldn’t really consider anyway. This of course left one option for him to take with any semblance of safety, and patiently making his way from one outcropping to another would hopefully keep him from falling into the pit below.
The other three of the group didn’t waste any time in getting started, two of them making their way for the swinging ropes while the third took the bridge. It was interesting to see what happened with each route, Uriel not particularly big on the idea of numerous spiders crawling down the ropes at him but at least the two of them using it seemed to be enjoying themselves. The bridge was even more unsettling however, what Uriel originally guessed were holographic hands grabbing at the bridge and rocking the bridge…..probably meaning that the crossing was attached to some kind of servo to make it move. It was enough to get to the anxious young man though, as he started booking t across the bridge towards the other side, probably the worst thing to do on something that you expect to be unstable as it seemed. Running put all of your weight and the force of gravity on one foot at a time, which meant on one rotting plank at a time.
“Don’t run!”
Hopefully he made it to the other side though, but Uriel wouldn’t find out until he got there as well. The holiday crusader made his way over to the wall and scaled onto the first projection of rock from the face, looking at the next that he would have to jump to. He had quite a bit more faith in the stone being able to carry his weight than any ropes, but he did have to use a fair bit of strength to propel his body along towards the other side. Carefully and methodically he planned his movements, navigating from one part to the next and his size allowing him to simply reach to a couple hand-holds rather than jumping. The only thing he could do was push towards the other side and hope there were no cracks in the stone that his stature would put too much stress on, that and ignore the impressively believable sounds coming from the pit and the area around them.

Flynn gave the wolf a bright smile right back, even if it was obvious he wouldn't put a maid costume on. He was way too happy about meeting him again. After all, after their first time he kind of expected to never see him again. Seeing such a pretty face twice... He sure was a lucky guy!
Listening to the guide though, he tilted his head again. So they had to write people? That wasn't really a problem but... He took a look at the list of names and frowned. He didn't know any of these people. Still, if the guide said it would get important...Nodding, he hit sent. Yes. This seems good.
Now that that was done, he happily skipped along the path as the tour continued. Despite the loud noises and the growing darkness around them, Flynn didn't really feel much fear. Sure, it was giving him a little thrill but he was going to be fine. This was a tour after all, if there was anything that could actually hurt them the guides would do something about it. Probably. Maybe. Plus, even if anything happened, they were in a group. They would be able to fight it off. Flynn watched as the others crossed the gap, gauging which one is the best option. He was certain that he was light enough to cross the bridge but the screams... The fox guessed he should spare his poor ears from experiencing that up close. The ropes seemed the quickest way but there was always the danger of slipping. So far the stones on the walls seenmed to be the least creepy, judging about how the big guy seemed to get across without any incidents. It would probably be best if he went with that but...
Taking a few steps back, Flynn took a leap for a rope, not minding the spiders crawling down. He tried to not let the abyss below bother him too much, the worse that could happen is a few broken bones. Swinging from one rope to the other, Flynn laughed a little, having way too much fun with this. Swinging on the last rope, his hand slipped a little, the fox feeling his heart speed up a little...
Only to fall to the other side of the gap with a big thud, flat on his back. "I'm okay," he said and gave the others a thumbs up, slowly getting back to his feet and dusting himself off.
That was fun.
I'M SORRY FOR SLOWING YOU ALL DOWN

Messages from the other group
One by one, the group made it across the gap! They certainly seemed like they were having fun, and Jek had to admit - he liked seeing it. A wide grin plastered itself onto his face once the final guest made it across."Excellent work! It's nice to know all of you have quick reflexes and can move along as needed." He waved the flag a bit before walking towards the pit. His foot went over the darkness, though he didn't fall in at all. Really, he just walked right across the pit and ended up next to the group, hands on his hips. Invisible platforms. He loved them so much."By now you should have gotten your messages from the other group. All you have to do is tap your earpiece and the message will play for you." He did so to give an example, only to laugh at what Lucente had said. Of course, she couldn't quite let him win - now could she? There, that should turn her ears a bit red. He did so love it when she blushed. "Now, if each of you would take one of the torches lined along the wall, we can continue as needed." He spoke while grabbing the first torch and using it to light his way while they moved deeper into the cavern. His eyes scanned for a moment, stopping on note written on the wall in red charcoal. Kill them with kindness Lead them to the light All fun and games until somebody gets hurt Beating hearts drown out thoughts Red bodies burn up Drums of War beat them down Feet drag on the floor, then fall "Well now, this is a bit ominous. Important clues for our next puzzle? Perhaps something to share with the others?" I t was up to his group if they shared the information or not. He wouldn't force them. Plus it was more fun to make decisions for themselves. What mattered was the next room that sprawled out before them.
Darkness engulfed the area, though on the far wall was a wooden door illuminated by a single candle flickering above it. Around the edges were four more candles that held no flame and couldn't be lit by normal means. The door was, of course, locked and wouldn't unlock until all of the candles had begun to burn. "Can you light the candles above the door before time runs out?" This puzzle will last two rounds ! The room they entered is entirely dark and can only be navigated with the torches. Hidden in the room are various items that can be set on fire, but only certain ones will light the candles to unlock the door. Near the left wall on a table are: a vase of flowers, a tall candelabra, a pile of leaves in a stone bowl. Near the left wall on the floor are: Two wine bottles with candles inside, a crystal skull with oil inside, wax dripping out of a crack in the wall. In the center of the room: A large obsidian bowl filled with a sparkling liquid.
Each person can light one item on fire with their torch this round, and next round you'll be told what each does ! So choose wisely. You never know what might happen o v o Sorry for the delay, everyone! As discussed over pm, we'll be changing the rounds to 3 days from now on. The threads will also now run for 3-4 weeks total instead of 2 weeks. We'll inform you here and over pm when we decide on an official end date. If you have any questions, please send a PM to Kendra. If it were anywhere else far away from this situation, Levenin would’ve laughed the mispronunciation of his name. He had a little mental library of the various ways people had interpreted it over the years. And normally, after having a chuckle, he’d then have a subsequent freak out over the voice. So it had been the Dante he knew. Against all odds, somewhere in this park walked the young man he’d wronged and who knew if they’d end being partners once more— a fate more cruel than this current bridge challenge was turning out to be.
Hands failing to catch him and the ropes holding firm, Levenin practically threw himself onto the first inch of stable ground he touched. He didn’t even notice Jek literally walking over the pit like it was no big deal. Invisible holographic pathways? Lev wouldn’t have cared, even if he did. His eye mod couldn’t pick up on something that sensitive.
”What were those hands made out of?” he asked, repositioning his hat and numerous charms. ”I’ve never seen technology like that before…”
Thankfully, they were given a bit of light to carry and he couldn’t have been more relieved. This darkness was too much for even him to see through. Light was the most comforting thing to have right now, though if Lev ran into any random faces illuminated by torch, he’d drop it and strike. Or run. Maybe both. Would there be actual self defense from entities in the temple was a good question.
Of course, not one to ponder on for long as they read the helpful little note on the wall. Levenin scanned it a few times to keep the words fresh in his head. Memorization was a skill he could claim, but riddles were another story. ”Are we… going to fight anything down here?” Levenin could hold his own okay. He figured the hulking blonde man could as well, but the other three he had doubts over. They probably felt the same towards him. Oh, he should’ve stashed a knife in this costume when he had the chance.
Not that one would’ve done the man any good. If dark could get any darker, this room certainly proved it. The layout almost reminded him of a game somehow.
”Four candles but five of us,” muttered Lev before cautiously trying to light one. His torch had zero effect on it. He thumbed at the wick just to make sure it wasn’t damp. ”Maybe we have to use all of the torches at the same time to make it hot enough to spark…?”
A stupid suggestion he regretted asking as soon as it came out his mouth. He suspected a pattern was behind this puzzle, like lighting them all simultaneously, but that still left one person to do nothing. Or maybe they had to blow out the candle already alight and then go from there? That meant nothing if they couldn't get them to burn in the first place. All of these ideas sounded no better.
Oh, he'd nearly forgotten.
Honestly, the poem wasn't helping him think this one out.
His torch illuminated something out of the corner of his eye and upon investigation, Levenin found a simple candelabra sitting by its lonesome. "Oh." It was so impossible to see anything that he missed this. Tempted to stick one of the unlit candles on it, he instead turned his attention to the one already steadily searing by the door. Now there was an actually good idea, if he could reach it. "Can, uh, anyone taller grab that candle over there for me?"Actions taken: I saw the other thread doing this lol
- Escaped bridge - Sent Taylor a message - Found the candelabra - Requested to interact with room environment

So much for looking cool, huh? Well, not that it really mattered. It wasn't like he was trying to impress anyone here or anything. So once he was done getting the dust off of him, Flynn turned to look at their guide again and-- “Oh my god! That's so cool!” the fox basically leaped over to where Jek had crossed the pit, hands eagerly touching the invisible platform. What material was it made out of? Was the entire pit covered by it? How come it didn't reflect light? Was it because there wasn't much light to begin with? If the pit was covered by it, where did the hands that were grabbing after hat-guy coming from? What were those anyway? His curiosity had to wait though because after a bit their small guide was talking again, making his ears perk a little in attention. Eagerly tapping his ear piece, he listened to the message and smiled a little. This person was really nice to tell him that, huh? He would love to thank to them but he doubted it was a good idea to use up his one message like that. “Anyone want to hold hands?” Flynn asked once they were moving again. Sure, the torches they got lightened the place up a bit but that didn't mean it was any less dark. While he assumed the tour made sure it wouldn't happen, the fox didn't feel like getting lost in this place. It would be uncomfortable to say the least. It didn't seem like the others had much time to reply to him though because shortly after they stumbled upon a note written on the wall. He didn't hesitate to send it off to the other group. And that was that. He sure hoped this was enough to thank them for their concern. At least he hoped it was helpful for whatever is going on at the other tour. Back to the here and now though, looks like hat-guy was a bit worried there. Flynn wasn't exactly sure how to reply so he opted to stay quiet for now. He doubted there was actual danger in this tour so there wasn't really anything to worry about. Still... “Even if we do, I'm sure we will do fine!” he said and lightly slapped him on the back. After all, with five people in a group, even if one was clumsy, the others could pick up the slack. At least Flynn knew he could. There should be no problem if actual fighting was going to happen. When they reached the room the fox didn't really wait before he tried to explore the room, trying to keep to the wall. Just lighting the candles with their torches was too easy after all, there had to be a mechanism behind it. So keeping to the wall, he tried to find anything that seemed suspicious until his feet knocked against something. “Found a... skull?” He didn't wait to kneel down and inspect it closer, reaching inside of it with his free hand only to find it was filled with some kind of liquid. Could it be...? “I'm going to light it!” he announced to the group, sticking his torch inside. Within seconds the oil inside was burning, illuminating a bit of its surroundings. pffffff sorry no colours, I'm writing on phone;;

Eventually all that swinging had to come to and end, and when it did, Eco made sure to land as gracefully as he could, which he had managed just fine. The same could not be said for a certain fox fellow, who seemed to have taken the same path as the girl and him. He stared at the floored male for a second, who quickly bounced up and went on a small rambling spree.
Admittedly it was slightly off putting to see their guide walk across this 'spooky, dangerous pit' so easily, but he'd been well aware that it wasn't actually dangerous to begin with. Or at least he'd assumed as much. And well, he did have fun, didn't he? And that was what was important. Oh, and getting through this tour in one piece. Speaking off; he tapped his ear piece as instructed and listened to the message he had received. Nothing particularly interesting, but a nice sentiment he supposed.
When that was done they continued on; he took a torch as instructed and completely ignored the fox's call for attention. Last time they'd met it had been just the two of them and it had been hard to ignore him; now he didn't have to pay attention to him unless he had to, which was a plus.
It didn't take long before things took a turn for the 'spooky' with creepy writing on the wall that didn't make much sense to him right now, but probably would at some point. For now he'd do his best to memorize what was written and not break his brain over it just yet. It didn't seem like he had to, so... Aah...he should probably... Hmm...
He wasn't sure why he picked that particular sentence, but... It was something, right?
The guy with the hat spoke up, and he couldn't help but arch a brow at the question. Fighting...? "It'd certainly make things interesting if so," he muttered softly. Not like this wasn't interesting already, but he was never really against friendly fighting. The keyword here being 'friendly'. Not all of them looked like capable fighters, but looks could be deceiving. Or spot on. But also deceiving.
Eventually they reached another room; one went off exploring while the other seemed to take a more passive approach. At least, that's what he thought.
So, they had to light candles, huh? Lighting them directly would be too easy. He listened silently to what the man with the hat had to say, crossing his arms -- making sure not to burn himself with the torch -- and tilting his head slightly. He liked riddles and puzzles and the likes, but that didn't mean he was all that good at them. Lighting them up all at once was a sound suggestion, but...
After some time he seemed to have found something, and while he would have liked to help him out with the whole candle thing, he wasn't that much taller than him to begin with. There was that tall guy, though...
There also seemed to be Flynn, setting random skulls on fire. That made Eco make a face, but he shook it off quickly. They could all definitely see more of their surroundings, but that still didn't change the fact that what had to be lit still wasn't lit. Points for that, though. ...maybe? The wolf took a good look at his surroundings. There sure was quite a bit going on in here, wasn't there? Hmm...
Right now he figured he'd help the guy out with the whole candle thing. After a bit of struggling he did manage to reach the candle and handed it over the guy that asked for it. "Here." He had an idea as to what he was going to try, but... For now Eco also wanted to look around a bit himself.
As to what piqued his curiousity while he looked around in the room; it was definitely the bowl with the sparkling liquid. He kind of wanted to see what happened if he tried setting it on fire, but for all he knew it would set the fire out, leaving him fire-less. Still...highly curious.Actions: - Sent a message to Dante - Got candle for Lev?;; - Looked at the bowl with liquid

Uriel took a deep breath and made the final leap from the stone outcropping onto the solid ground on the other side of the pit. He was thankful that they had an option that supported his weight, rather than having to risk snapping ropes on the other two methods. His size worked well for his profession and many other situations, but it wasn’t always the most convenient thing in the world. He turned to look at their tour guide, looking forward to the next leg of their adventure, when he saw him simply strolling across the gap as though black paint had simply been painted onto the ground. Uriel sighed a bit, more internally than externally at the mild foolishness he now felt, but the point of the evening was to have fun and enjoy the possibilities of danger.
Jek was correct that they’d received messages from the group over on the other tour, Uriel finding his slightly amusing and a smile cracking at the parting comment Lucente made. He stepped over to join the group, looking to Jek with a smirk.
“Your counterpart wants you to know that she’s doing a better job than you are.”
It seemed that the group was on their way quite swiftly, being told to pick up one of the torches to carry along with them. Uriel grabbed one for himself, though found that it seemed a bit small in his hand compared to the rest of the group. As long as it did the job of keeping things lit enough, the blonde didn’t really care all that much.
The torch did exactly that, this time illuminating a set of red colored sentences written on the wall. It seemed as though it was some kind of poem, but for all of the books he’d read, it wasn’t anything that Uriel recognized. In any case he guessed that it was a clue to one of the puzzles, but it would be too obvious for it to be a clue to their own puzzle. Instead it was probably something related to what was happening on the other tour, and so Uriel took one of the sentences from the set and messaged one of the others with it.
It wasn’t even a moment after that when the anxious one with the charms brought up the idea of having to fight anything along the way. While that was something Uriel found unlikely, it was still possible. There wasn’t much to be done about hypotheticals like that anyway, and Uriel felt he could take what might come their way if it did.
Soon enough, Jek continued on his way and led the group to a new chamber which was pretty much just as dark as everything else they’ve encountered already. At least they had torches this time. One candle above the door was lit, but the other four weren’t. Uriel went over the poem again in his mind just in case, but it seemed to have nothing to do with their current situation. He listened instead, and heard the others stumbling upon objects in the room. He heard the young one with the charms asking for help reaching a candle, but he saw one of the canids already helping by the time he turned to start moving towards him.
He looked around a little more, extending his torch out and soon his eyes catching on the appearance of a reflection. He walked over to it and found a pair of wine bottles, each with a candle melted to the inside bottom of the glass. They might have been a way to get the other candles lit and Uriel saw no other possibilities for the moment, so he grabbed one and flipped it over, attempting to use his torch to light the candle inside and doing the same with the second if he was successful.
"Any of you having any luck?"

Messages from the other group will be received next post. As such, no messages will be sent out this turn. "Technology? I'm not really sure what you mean. This place hasn't had anything changes in hundreds of years." Jek spoke in a quiet tone and stared off into the darkness, only to look over his shoulder at the pit once more. Of course, it was just an organic compound mixed with nanobots that had an electrical current run through it to react to organic matter that wasn't registered within a certain proximity - but technicalities! Where was the fun and intrigue with that?
Jek flapped his wings slightly at Uriel's comment and gave a huff. "Everything is a competition with her, I swear." He muttered under his breath. He looked up at the giant of a man and gave a nod and smile before stepping back and watching everyone figure out the words on the wall. In the meantime, he took a moment to check his message from Lucente.
A ring of laughter left him at her sudden outburst, though he quickly silenced himself so the group could move along and begin figuring out the solution. He was glad they seemed so eager. No wet blankets made things easier on him.The skull Flynn found burned brightly, showing no signs of stopping. A few seconds after he did so, one of the candles next to the door came to life and flickered softly. The liquid inside the skull would slosh slightly, but the fire wouldn't go out even if poured on the floor.
The moment Eco handed the candle over to Levenin, the flame went out. Even if place inside the candelabra or returned to its original position, it wouldn't relight.
The candles Uriel found inside the wine bottles lit with ease, one after the other. The wax was soft and melted quickly, pooling into the bottle and sliding around to snuff out the flame almost instantly. Even though the candles lit, nothing changed for the door.
The bowl in the middle of the room began to give off a slight glow, the liquid taking on a blue hue. It seemed suspiciously like it was calling people's attention to it.Your goal is to solve this puzzle before I make my next post! Reminder that your group received no messages this turn and can't send any out until they complete the challenge. If you have any questions, please send a PM to Kendra. Watching everyone work, Athena simply pondered what else to do. Some of the lights were lighting but others flickered and died. For a moment Athena actually considered flapping her wings to the candles to carry the flames over a lot faster but then came to the conclusion that that would be a stupid idea and dismissed it. Instead she focused on sending a message to someone in the other group with one of the ominous options on the wall.
Athena smirked before turning her attention to a bowl that was giving off a beautiful blue glow. "Wooooah..." Athena whispered as she slowly walked over to it and kneel before it and taking in the sight. For a moment as she stared she thought she could hear voices but she ignored it and chucked it up to her companions speaking out. She simply stared at the flame and then at the liquid pooled around it. "Do you want me to touch you?" Athena pondered out loud as she reached out for the liquid. Maybe it was her attraction to warm things or it was her "throw caution to the wind" mentality but for some reason she reached in and tried to cup the liquid in her hands.

Levenin hoped that them sending out messages would mean they’d receive them as well. He thought on the wall poem again and while some of it seemed to fit this room, Jek had mentioned how it would probably help the other team. But how would either group complete their puzzles unless there was communication? He hadn't yet heard from them and worried slightly.
Especially since as soon as the candle was taken off the wall by Eco, it helpfully went out. Did he remove it too quickly and accidentally snuff it? ”But… it was just…” Lev tried unsuccessfully to relight with the torch, only nothing happened. Now it was as good as all of the others. ”I guess it being the only lit one meant we weren’t supposed to move it… Umm, could you put it back…?”
Flynn seemed to have the most luck. Whatever he did drove them one step closer to the solution, even though Lev couldn’t quite see how these two items fit together. Perhaps there was something in the skull that allowed it to burn. That was what mattered: just making objects light up. Seeing Uriel’s find smother in seconds as wax washed over the newly birthed flames gave him an idea.
”A time trial…?” he said aloud. ”I mean, the skull’s still going and so is a wall candle, but when the wax…”
Turning on his eyes out of habit, he caught the glow of the bowl and immediately ran for it, though Athena beat him to the punch. Yeah, it had to be time-based. Jek had even mentioned time specifically when they’d entered this room. He didn't quite know what to think of her cupping it in her hands. However, he felt at ease knowing he wasn't the only one drawn to it. "Excuse me, could I...?"Motioning for her to step aside for a moment, Lev carefully positioned the torch over the basin, so as to not catch anything on fire prematurely by accident. Levenin took a few sniffs of the contents, nose crinkling. Well, he couldn’t tell if it was oil, but it was a strong-smelling liquid of some sort. Close enough for him to test a theory.”There’s gotta be more stuff in here to set on fire. If we all do it at the same time, maybe we can get the candles lit up before the items go out. Find ones with liquid or something inside them that’s flammable. Whatever it is, our torches can burn it.”Maybe Levenin didn’t quite understand the connection here, but it had to be better than his first attempt of taking things off of the walls. He gently placed the candelabra under his arm, just in case it had a use. If Uriel’s wine bottles were anything to go by, the candle wax melted rapidly upon lighting and all any of them needed was to be scalded. He waited for everyone else to locate their item before setting his torch flame down into the bowl’s pool.Actions taken: — Asked someone to replace candle above door — Kept candelabra — Lit bowl in center of room on fire — Didn’t die
