─────── November 2015 Update ─────── Hello there everyone! To begin, we'd like to extend an apology for how long things have been taking as of late. Between work, moving, and school, it's been difficult to match up all of our schedules to take the time needed to discuss things and get content out that we want. We’re going to make an active effort to make sure what work we are doing behind the scenes is more visible on the board from now on, but we’d also like to remind everyone that they are free to ask us how things are going at any point and we’ll do our best to give you information about what we’re working on! We want communication between admins and members to stay open, so please don’t feel afraid to message us on the board with questions about different updates. But with that said, we’d like to give a plan for the future based on what we saw in the future, as well as a small update that we hope will help with some of the problems that were expressed in the survey. Survey Results + Moving Forward ──────────── Overall, the three largest concerns addressed in the survey were world expansion, magic/tech restrictions, and class/faction dynamics. World expansion we hope to help a little with this update, and there are plans for an update in the near future that we hope will clarify some things with tech/magic and also make them easier to work with. The class dynamics we are still working on, but there is an event coming in the near future that we want to watch and see how it plays out before we make any drastic changes. If you have any suggestions or questions about these processes, you’re always free to message us suggestions or ask how we’re approaching the issues.
However, responding to the survey isn’t the only thing we’re hoping to tackle soon. We’ve sat down and made a to do list for ourselves to work through, and while the survey concerns are near the top we’ve tried to factor in everything else that needs to be done. We recognize we’re fairly behind on evaluations and questions right now, and we sincerely apologize and assure you those are at the top of the To Do list.
But with all that said, we’d like to introduce the new world aspect that we hope will allow you all a bit more freedom to work with.

Salvage Zones ──────────── While we know new cities are a large desire, those take quite a bit more time because of planning for the social structure, political situation, and how it's connected to Novus. More will be added in the coming year for sure, but we didn’t want to rush their release and risk giving you something that would only add confusion and complications to the world. But we didn’t want to leave you empty handed either, so we hope that this compromise will help add a new element of exploration to the world for present and future rps while we develop the more technical aspects of the site. As you can see above, these new elements are called Salvage Zones.
Salvage Zones are massive areas located outside of Novus that citizens of all classes are able to travel to in blacked out trains. While these areas do exist in domes as well, they are are free of government control and the class system. However, this freedom comes at a cost. Almost all of these zones have suffered from heavy radiation, and as a result the environments and their respective flora and fauna have all suffered heavy changes and mutations. Some Salvage Zones are roughly the sizes of the National Parks of today, while others contain only a few square miles.
Citizens of the world are allowed to stay in these Zones for as long as they wish, even if that means indefinitely. Many black market dealers will smuggle scavengers in and out of the Zones as well. From extreme temperatures to mutated animals stalking through tall grass, the cushy city life is nothing compared to the potential dangers in these areas. While there are some more relatively peaceful Zones, there is always the fear of some new mutation emerging to terrorize the area.
However, there are benefits for those seeking temporary visits too. It’s possible for your Class to be raised or for you to earn wages by bringing back animals (alive or dead), or by collecting other materials in the Zones. Although the government requires that all materials gathered in the zones be traded in for credits upon returning to the city, some of the smaller materials often find themselves smuggled in and displayed on the black market.
But without further ado, we’d like to present you with the first few ( of many to come ) Salvage Zones available for your characters to explore! Current Zones ──────────── ──────── Salvage Zone: Ruinous Tundra At first, all there is to see is a flat land covered in twisted trees and shrubs. On the horizon, after a full day's walk through the empty land littered with broken prewar car frames, street lamps and neglected asphalt roads, lies the massive remains of a prewar city. Broken, crumbling, and filled to the brim with items left behind in the wake of destruction and 500 years of natural decay. Walls are all that remains from some buildings, others on the brink of or having collapsed into themselves into nothing but scrap. But one massive building remains, rumored to contain treasures of a king and to be the ruins of a prewar castle. Close-by is a harbor with the remains of ships half sunk into the icy irradiated water.
During the long winter months, September to April, the ground is frozen and the temperatures can drop below -40C even during a sunny day. In bad conditions, snowstorms rip through the ruins, blasting snow and ice into anything that might be caught without some sort of protection.
Radiation levels are high towards the harbor of the ruins, having been closer to a blast zone, and have only recently began to decay enough to allow exploration without intensive radiation protection. Because of this, the fauna that lives among the wreckage and tundra are grossly mutated - barely recognizable compared to their original forms. Bears, squirrels, wolves, ravens, and elk are a few of the creatures that roam the radioactive tundra. Plants mutated to produce toxic fruit, as well as thick skinned pods to protect from the cold – But the plants and hides of these flora and fauna are greatly valued. ──────── Salvage Zone: Ragged Seaboard A jagged mix of massive debris and broken rocks has gathered against the shore in this Zone to create a deadly coastline that is constantly plagued by harsh winds and rain. Large waves crash against the sharp ‘beach’, sometimes slamming new pieces of debris into the coast or tearing sections of it away into the dark waters. At high tide, the 35-kilometer long coast is nearly impossible to traverse, but when the waves lower it is possible to climb down the rocks to harvest materials at the bottom. While there are some flat areas for salvagers to camp out on during high tide, they must be prepared for the constant downpour of rain and the few mutated birds that wander the coast.
At the bottom of the cliff created during low tide, many valuable and pressurized stones can be found, along with plants that only grow in the salt water. But the returning tide is not the only matter to worry about, as all sorts of amphibious creatures have made their home in the debris and will often crawl out to attack or feed on salvagers near their home. For particularly daring salvagers, there are some spaces within the debris itself where caves have formed to explore. Although rarer animals lurk here, be careful you don’t get lost. The waves are merciless towards caught inside them on their return. ──────── Salvage Zone: Shifting Savannah The Shifting Savannah is a large plains filled with unpredictable weather and strange living things.. In the blind savannahs you will be greeted with flat plains with overgrown grass from years of neglect, stretching wide as a football stadium.. The weather does not change often but it more so depends on the seasons. In the first six months of the year the Savannah is in its “rain seasons”. The plains become wetlands that suffer from constant floodings of the rivers and lightning storms. The wildlife tend to stay in central points in the area rather than move. The temperatures are cooler during this time and more fauna will exotic colors will flourish. This is also the time when breeding occurs and so the populations are large.
The second season is the “dry” season. During this time the wildlife are on constant move. The temperatures are on the rise and places to find water start to disappear. Fires can occur and while the animals are more dangerous, the plant life during this time are also deadly with thorns and poisonous sap. Some of the animals that can be seen here are lions with plant characteristics, crocodiles with venom, wildebeests that give off horrid decaying smells and larger animals like elephants that can mimic other sounds, but other animals with different mutations can live here as well. Future Zones ──────────── While we do have some ideas brewing for more Salvage Zones already, we’d like to extend the offer for each and every one of you to send in suggestions for areas you’d like to see as Salvage Zones! These suggestions can be as detailed, or vague, as you'd like - even so much as just a few words to describe a type of place that you think would be interesting. From an active volcano to a forest made of twisted crystal, the limit is your own imagination. Feel free to also come up with any sort our fauna or flora that live in these zones to create a richer and deeper experience! We want to add in member created areas in addition to our own, to create an interesting world that all of us will enjoy being a part of. To submit these ideas, there are a few options! You can post on this announcement, submit it on a Google Form here, or send a PM to any active admin. We’ll be accepting submissions in these ways until November 24th, 11:59 PM PST. After that if you have any suggestions for Zones, they should be made in the Suggestions forum. If you have any questions about how the Salvage Zones work or what to do for suggestions, please feel free to ask on this thread! We look forward to seeing what you all have to offer. Thanks ──────────── Whew, we know this was a long announcement, but thanks for sticking through it with us! But that’s not all we’d like to thank you for. As we said at the beginning of the announcement we’re very aware that things have been moving a bit slower on the site as of late. It’s a very new experience for all of us on the mod team to be running a site and planning out its future, and we’re most definitely stumbling a little as we try to find our way. So we thank you for your patience with us as we get our footing and for all of your working in contributing to make re:DUX be the best site it can be!
And, as always, we always encourage you to come talk to us if you have any questions or post your responses on these announcements. We always want to know what you think, and it helps us a whole lot if we know what you do or don’t enjoy. You’re always free to speak up, and we’ll do our very best to always listen.
With all that said, thank you again for your time reading and we sincerely hope that these updates get you super excited about the world of re:DUX!
