I have some fun ideas for a character but they're largely based on the whole 'working a scavenger back into society' thing sO
> How /valid/ does the proof have to be that someone only just became a scavenger and would be a good candidate for rehabilitation? If there were someone high enough up, could they fudge this slightly? > Is there a way to ACTUALLY tell how long someone's been a scavenger for or would it be possible for a more recent event to kind of be falsely blamed for this? > How long would the rehabilitation process take? Would this be something in the form of years for some people? > Is it possible that it would be intensive enough to really fuck someone up psychologically? :V > How closely monitored is this 'rehabilitation' period? Would it be possible for someone to kind of mess with it for their own personal reasons if they were in the right position (ie, someone involved in the process > Would the rehabilitated person be monitered post rehabilitation and if so, for how long? > Is it feasible for someone to have memory altered/removed through psychological, computerized (ie, thru NUIP stuff), or chemical means during this process, especially if someone were doing something they shouldn't?
I HAVE AN INTERESTING IDEA OK SHHHH
EDIT: also - if someone were dropped a class as a punishment (IE: attie), what kind of restrictions would there be on moving back up? The specific example I'm looking for is re: attie taking the test to move up if it became relevant to what I wanna do w him but ! might be relevant to others, too.

kyne Okay so some quick clarification before we do the individual answers here, since we discussed rehabilitation and made some changes as a whole. And we’re gonna aim for putting this into an official update sometime too. So rehabilitation before was mostly in the way of people being sent to centers inside or outside of the city ( in high security complexes ) to go through reeducation and the like before being released back into society after taking the test. While IC this is still the more common method of rehabilitation, we discussed and added a new way as well. If a Scavenger can find a secret police officer ( who can be an actual character or a npc OOC) who is willing to act as their sort of ‘parole officer’, they can remain in Novus as their rehabilitation will be handled by this sole officer. The officer will have enhanced surveillance on the ‘recovering’ Scavenger (beyond the normal NUIP functions) and ‘coach’ them back into society. IC, this is the rarer case as it's harder to find a Secret Police officer willing to put that much time into a Scavenger, and the officer would also face repercussions if the Scavenger were to ‘rebound’ later on. - Well, in theory and officially, it needs to be very solid and valid. However, in practice individual secret police officers are generally the ones that make the decision about whether or not to start rehabilitation or not. Some may be more lax, some might accept bribes, some might turn you away and some might shoot you for even asking. So what you need varies on the individual, and it’d be somewhat dangerous to just approach somewhat at random without knowing what kind of person they are.
- It can be tracked yes, because once dna samples/fingerprints/eye scans are required they would be able to track the day you went offline. You could lie up until they did get samples though.
- The process could take anywhere from a minimum of 6 months to years, depending on the individuals involved. So really, it's entirely up to you OOC!
- Absolutely
- For the rehabilitation centers, the process is very closely monitored. They’re akin to a prison system and so the entire process is generally very strict. However, for the parole option the level of attention really depends on the SP officer(s) involved.
- A rehabilitated citizen would be subject to at least 3 months of closer monitoring. Because of the length of center visits, as well as the parole officers, there is less of a need to closely watch the rehabilitated person.
- Yes, but only to the extent that it could be done today. You can do suggestions and other psychological manipulations, but otherwise you can’t like go in and specifically choose which memories are changed or suppressed.
SPECIAL BONUS QUESTION OOC-wise, characters can move up without any sort of restrictions. It's entirely up to you \o/ As for IC, the test would be more weighted against them - just as it is with anyone trying to move up in class. For example, on a grade point scale, say someone in Middle Class earned a 75, and a Lower Class citizen also earned 75. The Middle Class would be able to move up in rank, while the Lower Class would not. There wouldn't be restrictions so much as more work needing to be put in to succeed. He could take the test like normal to move back up! Hope that answers everything for you Scotty /o/
