He would be lying if he said he wasn't absolutely thrilled with having his hand in Zeke's, tailing along after him. The blond looked so good with a smile on his face, Polydeuces had found, and there were definitely going to be efforts made to keep one there as much as possible. Glancing back he gave a tiny wave to Kyne in departure, and made his way to the quieter training areas with his knight.
Zeke had retrieved another of the training swords, and the prince reached out to take with his free hand, trying to hold it "properly" as he had seen the knights do (and he couldn't really mess up just holding it, right?). Blues eyes flickered back up to Zeke as a question was posed, and Polydeuces lowered the training sword to continue along with him. He'd definitely expressed interest in fencing when he was younger, but his father absolutely wouldn't allow it, because defense was what the knights were for. And no one else until now had been willing to teach him, partially because he'd given up on asking.
"I, well, sort of, that is to say... No, not really." A flustered expression came over him at the admission, but he moved a little closer, close enough to brush shoulders with the knight. "I don't want you to go easy on me because of that fact, though! After all, in the face of adversity, an enemy will never go easy on me, correct? So go all out, I don't mind being a little sore if you're to blame." With that, however, he winked, although he remained close to the knight with a soft little laugh escaping him.

In all honestly, Zeke found his question answered before the Prince had spoken. The way the young man took the sword and held it spoke of quite a bit of unfamiliarity but that was what this was for, right? He really didn't consider that the Prince might actually get into a situation where he might need to defend himself- that was Zeke's job, anyway, to take on all of the danger the other young man might have otherwise faced. No, this would likely be more for something to do that the Prince enjoyed and Zeke supposed that some nobility might consider it a 'quaint hobby' or something dumb like that.
"This is true," Zeke answered to the rest of what Polydeuces had said. "But I think it would be better to give some proper instruction before any of that; you may enjoy it more if you know what to do."
With that said, though, they had arrived and he took a few steps further into the training area and away from the Prince and drew his own practice sword. It was not quite as familiar a weight as his own sword, but the motion itself was still practiced and sure. "Best to start with the most basic things, I would say," he said, holding the sword in front of himself properly and waiting to see how the Prince might emulate it. Likely there would be corrections to be made, but if he wanted to learn Zeke was willing to give good instruction and ensure that it was interesting for him, rather than a source of bruises that might get them both in trouble.

Oh. Polydeuces narrowed his eyes a little, though kept his smile and blush. He guessed that the little flirt had been entirely deflected, which was a letdown, but chalked it up to Zeke being A Good Knight⢠(shut up I know they don't have trademarks /hit). Still, the prince listened carefully to his words, and then quietly lamented losing the other man's hand. Once again it seemed as if the knight was the first to pull away -- it was those little gestures which showed who had more restraint, he supposed.
Polydeuces stood up straighter, watching as Zeke drew his own sword. "But of course, the basics are fundamental, however simple they may be," he responded, switching the sword into his right hand and mimicking his knight's stance as well as he could. Of course it was child's play to do something as basic as that, and it never for a second crossed his mind that perhaps the angle of his arm wasn't quite right, or that his grip on the sword's hilt was a bit too loose to fight properly.
"Honestly, I can learn well enough by copying your movements, Zeke, you needn't go too slow," he said with a smug smile, so very sure of himself.

There was something so amusing to the way the Prince spoke and acted now that he had been given an opportunity to try out a sword for himself rather than just being let watch, and when he made an attempt to copy Zeke's stance, he seemed just so sure that he was doing it right. It was - - well, it wasn't completely wrong, at least.
"Is that so?" Zeke answered, lowering his own sword to examine the Prince's stance. He tried to concentrate on that side of it, at least, rather than how the ridiculous smug smile fit his lips, to concentrate on the way the sword was held, rather than who was holding it. "If I were to strike you, I believe you would find yourself disarmed fairly quickly. Here -"
He approached, looking at the way the Prince was positioned and reached out to him, shifting his arm slightly. He'd leaned in fairly close as he did this, and only realized so after he had made a motion to help. It was all Zeke could do to try and banish the momentary flush to his cheeks - this was a silly thing to get bothered over, right? Despite that, though, maybe this was one of the reasons he had subconsciously agreed to it. "You should find that your grip is more natural this way, easier to keep strong. And, place your left hand back further."
Zeke hesitated before moving away, making an effort not to meet the Prince's eyes, and hoped that he didn't sound as suddenly flustered as he was. When he did step away, it was beside the Prince to once again hold his sword and show how it was done. Eyes closed a second, a breath, and then he glanced back at Polydeuces feeling at least a slight bit more together. A smile fell on his face, just a subtle tilt to his lips and he asked, "Is that not better?"

Those were not quite the words he was expecting to hear. Polydeuces' smile faltered a bit as Zeke commented on his stance, because honestly he wanted it to come natural so that he could impress the other man and get to the parts where it was more likely they could get very close already. That is, until the blond approached and reached out to correct the prince's stance.
"Ah," Polydeuces drew in a breath, heart skipping a beat. Oh. Oh. By correcting him, Zeke could -- would -- get close. Unlike his knight, the prince could not banish the flush at his cheeks. He had completely gotten ahead of himself. The basics were brilliant.
He followed the corrections he was given, though, not wanting to be absolutely obvious in his ploy to find some way to get Zeke close again and again. There was a fine line between "understandable lack of knowledge" and blatantly not following straightforward instructions. "It is better, thank you," he commented with a small nod, but lowered the sword a bit after a moment to look at the other man again.
"Alright, alright, but this is just holding the sword, what comes next?" With a weak flick of his wrist (away from both of them, he wasn't completely reckless) he made a bit of a slash at the air. "I do hope it's something at least a little more involved." Rather, he just wanted to move along so he could figure out how to get Zeke to correct him like that again.

Despite the fact that he was doing his best to hide it, catching the tinge to the Prince's cheeks made it a bit difficult that he himself was flustered, chest tight and muscles tense upon any chance to get near. It wasn't very good for him if he were to try to give instruction, but he just... couldn't help it, couldn't completely ignore it. That was the effect Polydeuces was starting to have on him.
After his stance was corrected, the Prince commented about wanting to know what was next. Something about the way he said 'a little more involved' nearly caught Zeke's words on the way out of his mouth, but he steadied himself. No, he couldn't let himself get distracted; he had to try. And fail, apparently, because the moment he spoke and turned towards the Prince again, he caught his eyes and paused before speaking only to hurry and catch up with his thoughts.
"....yes - - naturally, there would be more to it than just holding the sword." Get it together, this was no way to be a Knight. He took a few steps to distance himself from the Prince and tried to concentrate on what he was doing not what he was thinking. From the stance that he had started the other young man with, he walked through some simple movements and spoke as he did so. "Knowing where you are going to step is just as important as knowing where your sword will land - not just to avoid falling but to stay a step ahead of your opponent."
Zeke paused, glancing at Polydeuces and suddenly unsure if he were explaining it well or correctly. "If-- if that makes sense, I hope it does," he added, suddenly unsure of how exactly to teach. He was always better with actions than words, which was a bit unfortunate right then. "let me see how you move and I can try to explain better from there, possibly."
And hopefully not get too distracted to do that well.

Oh, how in the world was Polydeuces expected to resist someone like Zeke, anyway? When the knight turned toward him their eyes caught, and the prince felt butterflies in his stomach. This was so much worse when he wasn't actively trying to resist, when he just allowed himself to feel. Perhaps he was falling so hard so quickly because he was so very used to holding himself back?
Polydeuces held his sword more properly again as Zeke moved, trying to focus on the movements he was making. The blond made it seem absolutely effortless to him, and he quickly found that he was concentrating more on the sound of Zeke's voice and the way he moved instead of actually... actively listening or paying any real sort of attention. And then it became much more about the way actions seemed to come so easy to the knight, and Polydeuces wondering what other actions he might naturally be good at --
But then he visibly flinched with red cheeks as soon as Zeke turned to look at him again, questioning if he was making sense. Uh oh. "It, makes sense! I, um," he let out a breath, realizing his stance had slipped a little and quickly righted it. How -- was Zeke moving again -- breathe, Polydeuces.
The prince glanced at the ground, taking a steadying breath before trying to... emulate what he remembered from his sort of daydreamy state. Watching your step, knowing where you were going -- that was like chess, or dancing. He could handle that! Perhaps it wasn't exactly matched perfectly to what Zeke had done, but his movements were. Something. Not incredibly hopeless. After a beat, he glanced up, a nervous smile on his lips. "I'll -- I will get it, honest."
