No, no this wasn't right, he hadn't meant to cry he'd been trying not to, but when Teddy seemed alarmed and teared up, it was like his own attempts were all knocked over, like the tears were ready to come out. It bubbled up in his chest, even as the other boy spoke, even as he tried to reassure him. Teddy reached out to grab his hands then, holding onto him and promising that he'd make sure Kyne got to go back.
He... promised? Choking back a sniffle and pulling one hand free to wipe his eyes, he looked at Teddy and almost laughed for a second. "You think either- - either of us can make that happen for real? But ........ but, okay."
Kyne chewed on his lip before leaning over slightly against Teddy, maybe feeling a little better at the prospect, despite how... it didn't seem like it could happen. He felt like he might be there forever now, stuck in a big stupid city without his family but at the same time maybe not. Maybe.. maybe Teddy wasn't so bad, especially if he made promises like that - Kyne certainly didn't want to let go of his hand right now, though. It was more comforting than he'd like to say to someone who was a jerk most of the time, even a not bad jerk. The tears felt like they might stop now, he thought- they were still there, so was the ache, but.... it felt not so sharp.
"When we get there, I'll show you the snow." he said, trying to let the bad feelings melt away from their firm grip around his chest. "That's.... it's a promise, too."
