Rio was just about ready to press on. Her pack irritably rubbed against her back while her rifle was slung over top. The only thing left to do was to continue on, and the only variable was whether or not she'd fire off two shots into the male before hand. It wouldn't be surprising to hear another series of lies in order to save his skin, she couldn't blame him really. Rio would likely do the same, albeit with a bit more charisma than Levenin had managed to bring thus far.Once she'd decided the latter wasn't about to immediately happen, she re clasped the pistol on her hips and prepared to take off."The less you know in my line of work, the better. I feel confident being arrested and not stabbed in some prison by an organization liaison because I excuse myself from the important details. I'd suggest the same for you, really."The mystery behind this particular package struck some curiosity in the female to be sure. The danger of knowing far outweighed the satisfaction of finding out however. Rio had taken plenty of time to make sure she stayed relatively in the dark when it came to her work. All that usually made its way into her marks was a name and a location. She'd seen others pass her in 'rank' and go too far down a rabbit hole to even see anymore. It was a gateway to more money, more power, and an inescapable fate. One she preferred avoiding.Once Levenin was done packing his stuff, she started walking. Down the dunes they stood atop and on towards their objective with the harsh desert wind at their backs. Rio withdrew her own map for a moment, looking over it and briefly comparing it to Levenin's. They were certainly equal in terms of quality, but the area should have been clear enough if there were other people present."I don't know if I want to share the information, to be honest. The entire reason I'm here is to make sure whatever sensitive material is in that container stays between my employer and the client. If I leak that out to...whoever the fuck your people are- I may as well leak it to everybody."The duo still didn't know if the package had even contained information- but settling on a middle ground with the doctor was proving to be more and more difficult. "Look. If there's information, I'll let you read over some of the client's shit. If their boy doesn't show up then I can't say shit for defending their half of the info. Anything on my side of the fence stays black- got it?"Hopefully the doctor would prove his worth yet. The marksman excelled in areas like this- wide open and noisy, but the chance of being shot was far from off the table. She'd prepared well with camo and a long range rifle strapped to her back, but another set of eyes never hurt. Levenin probably had some form of skill outside tackling people onto piles of scalpels- and his training as a doctor may come in handy if things don't end especially well in their favor. Walking to the train with a bullet in the hips wasn't preferable, ranking up there with the idea of dying alone in the desert. Then again, she'd already gone through that simulation once already. "Needles don't scare me, but you can keep everything in that bag away from me nonetheless. I'm sure I've just lost some time off my life from landing on just one- I don't know if I'd like medical aid even if I needed it judging from the contents you showed me." Scalpels, poisons and needles. Not exactly the equipment required to save life. Mostly tools the redhead saw that made ending one easier. The Lion's thoughts were interrupted by a strange gurgling that broke the silence of the turbulant winds. Rio rose an eyebrow, looking to the male with confusion for a moment before the gravity of the situation kicked in. She sighed, reaching into a side pouch of her bag and withdrawing a package of beef jerky. A terrible food choice in these conditions of course- but one of the few things guaranteed not to spoil within an hour of being in the savannah."Smart enough to bring hydration pills, stupid enough to forget food and a gun. You're something else, man."Rio took a large piece out of the bag before holding it out for the male. The last thing she needed was him collapsing from hunger in the middle of the dry, barren wasteland.

”Oh no, I don’t mean to pry. If you don’t wanna tell me anything, that’s fine. I understand.”
His hands went up in a defensive gesture as soon as their eyes met again. Levenin was less afraid of her weapon and more from the way she bored into him with those eyes of hers, as if she could see his thoughts play out every time he had to answer something. Rio probably bought his purpose for being here but anything else beyond that? She wasn’t stupid to fall for his lackluster lying skills. No one was. But somehow Lev had managed to get in her good graces. He wasn’t about to question why.
Levenin’s sense of direction was totally lost now that the two of them had tumbled every which way in their little bout. Any footsteps in the dunes had long since disappeared underneath the burning sands but they couldn’t have been too far off the mark. Though as the man surveyed the land and then his map for comparison, he was about ready to toss the damn thing to the wind. Wandering around was more precise than the scribbles he’d been given. Rio’s own map fared about the same, to his disappointment.
”Then I guess we’ll really have to figure out what to do with this package once we get there. We don’t have to decide one-hundred percent yet,” said Levenin, choosing to worry about any clashes later. Now wasn’t the time to fight over it, especially if that meant pissing her off by throwing back counter deals over and over again. ”If we get there at this rate…”
Soon, the sun would come down— a welcome relief from the heat but this also meant traveling would be more difficult by moonlight. Easier to avoid detection but easier to get lost. To find some kind of cover for the night, in case of camping, was his first priority (though if it was hers as well was yet to be seen).
Lev caught the offering of food, blushing like mad when he saw what it was. Had she heard that? He hastily pulled the mask down over his face to hide the embarrassment before clumsily shoving a bite of jerky up underneath it. Truth is, he didn’t have any food to bring in the first place. It was a sob story he’d refrain from telling her, though. ”I’m, uh, not really that comfortable with guns so I didn’t… T-Thank you. Uh, the knives will stay far away from you, I promise. Maybe we should g-go...”
With a race against the rising moon and setting sun looming ever closer, Levenin took the lead in moving onwards. Anything to avoid talking about his mistakes or gurgling organs. Plus, he thought Rio would appreciate being able to keep an eye on him this way for her own peace of mind.
—————
It didn’t take long for him to get back on track from where he’d left off, and the sweat and heat of the day slowly began to fade into the coming evening. He took the time to take in the crisp, cool air after bathing in the oven of the savannah all day. The winds died off gradually and it was around then that Lev saw fit to take off the skull again for a deep, refreshing breath. He'd almost forgotten what it was like to inhale something besides dust. An hour or two remained until sunset, but already he was scanning the landscape for any sign of light, artificial or otherwise.
”No sign of anyone else around here,” he said. No human activity, not even with his eye mod active, but Lev did notice tufts of grass here and there across the dirt. In the distance, it seemed as if the dunes grew less and less magnificent. Maybe eventually, they’d escape into the temperate grasslands. Unfortunately, there were no trees to speak of just yet. ”Do you see anything?”ONE OF US, ONE OF US

"I've got nothing to tell. I think you'd be better off following that motto too."An easy return with no strings attached, that's all she wanted. The day had been long and hot, but the prospect of getting slowly closer to their goal kept the Lion going. Rio ignored the 'verbally unarmed' gesture Levenin gave, choosing to ignore it and press forwards rather than being the type to dwell on her bouts of mild agitation. It was hot out after all, and she was rational enough to know things shouldn't get on her nerves this easy under normal circumstances.Unlike the male, Rio had a generally good idea of where they were going. She made sure to keep a marker on the direction of the sun- even as the time passed by them. That didn't mean she was any less lost however- given the directions were vague and the landscape was even more so. Frustration mounted as time passed, every dune of sand leading the redhead to believe she would see something over the next. Of course, that wasn't the case."I hate deserts.."She mumbled under her breath, bringing her hand up to chomp down on the beef jerky once more."I'm not a huge fan of guns either, mainly having them pointed at me. It's enough of a reason to carry my own."The sun was beginning to set, adding a final glare along the sand as it crept closer and closer to the horizon. The dip in temperature was appreciated, but Rio was sure the sweat turning cold would start adding a health concern on its own. She'd read deserts were fairly cold at night, almost too cold in some instances. If they didn't find the package soon, Levenin and Rio would be faced with some considerable choices. Hunt at night, or set up camp and get some rest. Her organic eye gave a subtle advantage in the night- but arriving at the package tired- exhausted and under fire wasn't preferable. Unfortunately, Rio expected this to be a day job at best- and the few accessories she packed were to combat the heat, not survive the cold."This shit is too far out.."With the weather currently not a threat, the feeling of low winds and a cool sensation on her skin was a nice change. The duo reached the top of yet another dune, and Rio paused for a breather. She took down her hood, dropping her goggles around her neck and taking the covers off her ears- which flicked several times as if adjusting to the noises around her without muffling constraints. She closed a golden eye, her cybernetic twin glowing a dull blue as she scanned over the horizon. Her tunnel-vision could be a jeopardy, but she was confident nothing would happen. Besides, magnifying with her cybernetic eye while her real one was open gave the redhead crippling headaches. "I don't see anything out there. I'm sure we're close, but I don't even know what I'm looking for with no size-estimate. I could step on the thing before I noticed it- or get shot. Using my eye in the slums isn't a problem, but out here- even the tiniest light sticks out like a sore thumb.." The price she paid, Rio supposed. The only disadvantage that came from being able to use rifles without scopes."I'd like to settle this without a sleepover, but if anybody securing that package has better night vision tech than I do- we're dead."Rio took a seat in the sand, a precious respite on her tired legs after a days worth of walking and a near death experience. She sighed, leaning back to place her hands in the still warm sand and looking up at the starry night sky. It'd be borderline romantic even, had she not come out intending to commit multiple homicides.

”Nothing to tell.” Levenin had refrained from saying anything in response. He was supposed to have “nothing to tell” and it was advice he knew he needed to start following before his tendency to be an open book got him killed. It was strange how he could talk about himself so freely but still have much to hide, even from those he trusted. Lev was sure Rio would discover a few things about him by the time their unwitting partnership was over. How much of it she wanted to know? Probably none and for that, Lev tried keeping conversation to a minimum. It spared the both of them his life story and copious amounts of stuttering.
Levenin popped in another hydration tablet as he continued to observe the expanse laid out before them. He’d grown increasingly jealous over their day’s walk as he saw Rio pull out her water multiple times. What he wouldn’t give for something that felt quenching instead of just fulfilling a basic need in the most unsatisfying way possible.
”I know we’re closer but it doesn’t feel like we’ve gotten anywhere,” he said. So at least he wasn’t the only one here who was growing frustrated. ”If we knew what we were looking for… Not just the package itself but if it’s buried, hidden… guarded?”
Surely there’d be an enemy camp, or a few guards at absolute minimum. Levenin looked to her, noticing her ears twitching with activity. If couldn’t see anything, there was always the chance she could hear it. Sometimes he considered getting more animal mods but he stuck out wherever he went as it was. No doubt the infamous Witch would be quickly hunted down by the authorities if he had his own pair of fluffy feline ears. ”Underground, maybe…?”
He strained his eyes again but couldn’t pick up anything but the occasional scamper of a small critter. Nothing even close to human. It wasn't dark enough yet for them to be at 100% capacity, but it was more likely there was nothing to be seen. ”I doubt they’d just leave it hanging around. It could be out here alone, waiting for delivery, but it won’t be for long if it is.”
They had to be close, regardless of how badly drawn the maps were. Levenin stared off into the distance as he thought of something. There wasn’t much way to get out of this without spending the night here, unless the two of them each grabbed a shovel and began to dig out the entire savannah. Obviously not going to happen. But that did give them one advantage, provided they hadn’t been spotted yet.
”I have an idea,” began Lev. ”We’ve done most of the work… So why not make them work for us now?”
He crouched down closer to the sand, inviting her to do the same as he lowered his voice to a whisper. ”We haven’t been seen yet and as far as we know, no one else knows we’re out here or that we’re coming. We’re in the general area for wherever this thing is hidden so until day breaks again, there’s a chance the thieves might come out looking for it. They’ve gotta know exactly where it is and when they get it, we strike.”
Farfetched? Possibly, but it lent itself well to their situation: defensive, a chance for rest, and hours of saved time if it worked.
”There’s no guarantee they’ll show up. Maybe they’ve already claimed it. But it’s the safest option for the night.”Welcome to hell EVERYTHING IS FANTASTIC HERE

Rio continued to casually munch down as they scanned the horizon- disappointment filling every moment that passed without yielding success. It was demotivating, to spend so much effort going out into the middle of nowhere for nothing. She'd almost died, and stood a fair chance of repeating that risk tomorrow with how her supplies were slowly dwindling away. She'd packed for just over a day, hitting two would likely mean the end for the Lion when she factored in the physical expenses of getting back to the station.
Rio didn't dare comment on the 'underground' mention. The mere notion had almost made her sick- and the prospect of digging through the sand certainly hadn't helped. The sand would bury all with enough time, there had to be some form of landmark to make the delivery recipient know where to look. A tree, an old radio tower? Something amidst an endless waste of sand and nothing. "If it's light, they could have already transported it by hand. It should have some form of identifying marker near it- nobody would be able to find it otherwise."
Rio took Levenin's offer to squat, deciding instead to plop a tired ass into the warm evening sand and sigh in a mixture of relief and defeat. The dull blue glow of her eye died down, allowing Rio to open its organic twin and look at the skull-toting boy as he ran through his plan. Her eyebrow perked when he mentioned simply staying put, and letting the men come to them. It sounded a bit farfetched, but the foundation was solid. The only things they had known so far was that the station was behind them, and the objective ahead. If someone got to the package first, they would have to follow the same path back- leading them right past the duo unless they had some crazy circular route to throw off pursuers. It was unlikely, time wasted in the savannah was precious, and the chance of getting lost was too great when they hadn't set off any alarm's yet. "That might not...be a stupid idea."
Probably the closest Lev was going to get to a compliment. Rio twirled a finger in the sand, gently caressing the coarse pseudo-ground beneath her with a velvet finger as she thought. It was getting darker slowly, and the danger of night vision or IR scanners put them at a serious disadvantage. Staying put would give them the element of surprise, and give proper chance to heal exhausted bodies. "Well, I've got no better ideas. I'd prefer not getting shot for crossing over a dune and not seeing an enemy sniper in the middle of the night...I guess we wait."
What little pride the Lion had to push forward was dashed the moment her muscles had synced to her mind. Rio unclasped her pack, letting it hit the ground behind her with a mild thud- soon joined by her rifle. Rio yawned, stretching out in cat-like fashion as even her tail stiffened at the prospect of a long awaited break. She leaned back, resting her head on folded arms atop her backpack and looking up while keeping the male in view. Comfort wouldn't be mistaken for confidence, she was sure if Levenin tried to pull something out- she'd be able to shoot him quickly enough from a position like this. That threat was never off the radar.
"So what's your plan, then? I don't suppose you have camping supplies handy? If you expect to stay in one spot for a while, you'll need cover and some source of warmth. I've read that the desert can actually get pretty cold at night, and you don't want sand blowing into all your 'snuggly' spots if you happen to pass out. We can probably bury ourselves a few inches under, and that might help. Just make sure you've got your undies on tight." The thought alone was enough to make her cringe. Rio was a long way from a cleansing shower, after all. Better tighten up the belt. "And I suppose you're gonna suggest sleeping in shifts or something? Not gonna lie, I'm pretty tired- but the idea of passing out around a poison specialist is probably gonna keep me awake for a while to come."

Rio was right about it possibly being light and easy for the taking, and Levenin didn’t want to admit it, mostly because it was a prospect he really didn’t want to be real. With no way to track anyone— smell, sight, or otherwise— it’d be impossible to follow on foot now if it was already gone, unless they wanted to wander the salvage zone in vain for ages. ”A marker… or buried and somehow only they have the means to find it. Extra security and peace of mind. Or else what else would the maps be leading to? For all we know, there’s an entire base of operations hidden in plain sight out here. The technology could exist for that...”
Lev pitied the poor soul who had to make this map in the first place. Someone before him had to do the dirty work of finding the meeting point in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly he felt bad about complaining about it so much. It was nothing but scribbles, but probably the desperate scribbles of a person who was under fire the whole way. Lev couldn’t fault them for loyalty to the cause, whatever that cause was for this Vigilante group he’d become entangled with.
”I’m glad to hear you say that, to be honest,” said Levenin, going from squatting to outright laying down on his stomach. He didn’t know how much he needed to be off of his feet until now. He noted her comment as a compliment. Sort of. Enough of one to make him smile. ”Whatever happens will happen, but I dunno if I could go on for much longer as we are.”
He laughed, covering his mouth to avoid making too much noise. Exhausted was one way of nicely describing how he was feeling. Lev had felt that way for a while now but he knew better than to voice the concern. A night’s rest was a good start but he wanted water, actual food, a comfy place to sit down. But as she brought up questions, he didn’t even think he’d get the sleep at this rate. Levenin looked forlornly at the bag still strapped across his shoulder, knowing that with all of the wonders it held inside, there wasn’t a pillow among them.
”I-I’ll be fine. I… didn’t think I’d be here this long so I don’t really have anything but it’s okay. I have my hood and a few spare clothes. I can make do with that.” The cold was creeping in already. Levenin never thought he’d be wishing for the sun to come back, if only for a little relief. ”I don’t wanna leave you on watch too long anyway. Plus, if I get too comfortable, you’ll never be able to wake me up.”
Levenin chuckled again before covering it up with a couple of coughs. Against his better judgment, he shrugged off his boots to let his swelling feet be quelled by the cool air before carefully setting his pack out to his side. ”I mean, I guess you’re taking the first watch? If you wanna sleep first you can but I just assumed because it sounded like you didn’t want me to… Would you… feel better if I sat over here?”Lev talks in his sleep btw hehehe

"Could be some tower off in the distance, could be anything, really." Rio sighed as she closed her eyes, a dangerous move to make when the Lion was as tired as she was. The threat of sleep was hanging on the edge of her mind- waiting for an opportunity to creep in for the unsuspecting kill. A cold gust of wind that rattled the redheads spine brought Rio's eyes open just in time to fight off the impending slumber, if only for a little while. She looked over to the male, getting comfy and joining him in that same action as she wriggled herself into the sand a little. Just enough of a crevice for the wind to miss her back.
"I didn't exactly expect to be stuck out here overnight. I packed for the day, didn't bring much to deal with the night." A simple sweater would have seemed ridiculous several hours ago- but Rio would have traded a whole magazine for one right about now. The lithe Lioness didn't have much in the realm of sturdy frames. She was a small girl all and all- and that meant having little insulation to the outside world for better or worse. Searching through her bag, Rio pulled out the small tarp she'd brought for covering both herself and her scout rifle, placing it over her body and tucking it into the sand on either side before resting the pack up against her chest. She set the rifle beside her, pointing towards her feet in case she needed to start snap-aiming at some object in the distance. Traveling by night was probably a better option- but sleeping in the day was borderline impossible. At the very least, not a trek she was willing to entertain again.
A yawn later, Rio looked over at the nervous-looking male beside her. She couldn't blame his assumption, if she was a little less tired she'd probably still be lording a grudge over him for the actions they'd taken earlier. At the same time, it was hard to blame Levenin for defending himself in that kind of situation, Rio would have gone for the kill instead of an attempted disarming. She sighed, leaning her head back into a small cluster of additional clothing as she slid her ear protection back on. "You can sit wherever, I don't care." She hadn't noticed it much at first, but her blinks had become slower, eyes closing for a few seconds at a time as her yawns picked up. She would likely make it a little while longer, but it wasn't hard to tell even the proud marksman couldn't fight off sleep after such a tiresome and stressful day.

As a chill started to descend as the sun left the sky, Levenin shivered in his poor excuse for a hood. He could barely cover his arms and instead chose to lay down in the sand that still held some warmth. He was sure Rio felt uncomfortable with the temperature change too, but if there was anything he’d gathered from his short time with the woman, it was that she wouldn’t accept any help from him. He would’ve gladly parted with some of his things to bring her relief. However, he decided against offering and continued to scan the empty landscape beneath them. That was fine, she didn’t want him nearby. Lev understood that.
A short time later, when he turned back towards her, Levenin found Rio already sleeping soundly. He couldn't help but crack a smile. Either there was some trust there on her end, or she was simply too tired to keep an eye on him. He wouldn’t lie and say he didn’t feel the same. Watch duty had fallen on him, almost as quickly as his eyelids were. The cold did little to help the man fight off a fit of tiredness. Levenin eventually had to sit up and splash his face with sand, coughing and sneezing all the while. No, he had to stay awake, if only for a little while longer.
He didn’t know when he finally lost the battle. One moment, he was super focused on the endless, repetitive dunes before him. The next, Levenin was jolted to consciousness by a little chastising voice in his head. At first, Lev was going to check on Rio but then something caught his hazy sight— activity. Human activity, hopefully. The thief immediately ducked down, mod activated, to avoid being seen before crawling over to the lion woman, taking care to shake her from a position that wouldn’t get him socked in the face.
”Hey! Sorry to wake you, but uh…” He checked back behind him, paranoid that they’d been spotted. They’d been sitting ducks. Well, sleeping ducks. ”I see someone… Two people. I dunno if it’s them but it’s someone.”
His eye mod could only make out the shape of whoever it was out there, no features. Levenin watched intently for a minute, waiting to see if they were coming near or going further away. No running or yelling, so at least that meant they were still hidden for now, clearly moving away from them. The plan that ran through his head just then seemed easy enough, knowing they had the advantage: follow along, shoot, take the treasure. But could Rio shoot the two figures both fast enough? Were they alone or was backup not too far behind? Would there be a panic button if the second one didn’t die quick enough? Lev shuddered to think what would happen if they screwed up.
”What do we do? Follow? Or would you rather…?”
The idea of killing didn’t sit well with him, whether or not their targets proved to be useful or deadly. With so much open desert around them, every move of theirs felt so exposed. Lev had a sinking feeling that they’d stumbled into something much bigger than two people could handle.

She wasn't quite sure when it happened. A darkness unlike the sky above them clouding in from the corners of her vision slowly but surely. The shivers eventually stopped as what body heat the lion gave off became trapped inside the tarp and against the sand beneath her. It was far from comfortable, but she'd slept in worse. At least the savanna was dry- a pleasant change from some of the damp holes Rio found herself sleeping in during her younger years. But as the sweet confines of rest overtook her, none of that mattered. She laid perfectly still, attached to the remaining heat in the sand gently caressing her sore back and legs. Her ears twitched occasionally, if only from irritation inside the makeshift earmuffs she wore to prevent sand getting in all the wrong places. Left unchecked, Rio would have likely found herself sleeping straight to morning- an unfortunate truth of the Lion's laziness coupled with the sleeping capabilities of a deaf snorlax.Touch, however, never failed to set her engines to 'go'. It took no more than a tap from Levenin for Rio's eyes to open, golden orb dazed and lagging while her hawk eye focused immediately on the male beside her. She didn't move even still, though the redhead quickly looked from Levenin's face to his hands. No scalpels and no potions put her mind to ease, allowing her precious seconds to return to the realm of the living."Nn...shit. I uh...I didn't fall asleep, I just--"She blushed subtly, a moment of vulnerability forced onto the tenacious sniper as she tried to explain herself out of such a novice mistake. Rio cut herself off immediately however, tail going ramrod straight at the mention of other people. Bringing a hand up, she quickly discarded her earmuffs, ears twitching as she attempted to tune into a sound, anything that would give away a presence near them. The wind howled over the dunes like a wailing mother, rendering her hearing useless judging from the distance said people were.It took a moment of looking around before the lion finally saw the two she'd been informed of. She didn't dare activate her eye, not in this kind of darkness- and not until she was about ready to make a kill. The moonlight shone down on the barren wasteland rather well, and the bonus of night vision Rio had in her organic eye helped paint the scene in front of her. The question now was how to proceed."We can't be sure they're the ones. It's realistically smarter to -yawn- travel by night in the desert. We might have to get close enough to confirm something...or just start indiscriminately killing."It was almost ironic, her power had crippled the two in a situation like this. Rio's rifle had no scope, and hell it didn't really need one either. Her eye had amazing magnifications, but it had a disadvantage in areas with no light. She cursed herself silently while slowly crawling out of her tarp. Subtle noise at this distance shouldn't be a huge problem, but that didn't stop her from being as quiet as possible while packing up her things. It only took a minute before Rio was ready to go once more. The duo ahead of them had a fair head start, but it wouldn't be hard to make up. A million ideas raced through the lioness' head. If they ambushed them, guns might get drawn immediately. There was the chance of killing them, but if they were only associates- their hide and seek match began anew all over again. Rio restrained the urge to whine audibly at the situation she'd been put in. There were so many variables it made completing it seem questionable at best. What could they do? The options were limited and time wasn't far behind. With a begruding 'tsk' the redhead got into a crouching postion, stretching toned and tanned legs before looking back on the male."I guess we've gotta go. And....if I was sleeping, you better not have pulled any weird shit. I'll definitely shoot you-"Here I was thinking Rio was going to wake up to Lev saying some weird shit in his sleep like "O_O...>->..../scoots further away"

If their situation wasn’t on the edge of being dire or potentially dangerous (for real this time), Levenin would’ve found her grogginess endearing in a way. Her response was quick and if there’d been a threat, no doubt a less lucky soul would’ve been face down in the dirt right now. But that was just it— for once, Rio’s piercing eyes looked at him with caution, but through a haze of sleepiness. Even beneath the mistrust and the way she constantly monitored him as if waiting for any wrong move, there was a soft side to the girl, a human one. All this time, at least until the yawning, she was nothing but intimidating.
It was far too dark to see the blush that blossomed on her face, so she was spared the embarrassment while Levenin was too busy trying to identify their new "friends." Though the winds weren’t as harsh as they were during the day, the slight whips of sand and dirt still irritated his eyes. Lev hadn’t thought to bring binoculars or anything to give him more range. He kept watch with what little strength the mods could offer, throwing the mask back on to protect his face.
”I don’t really wanna fight but… If it’s the better option, could you take them out from here?”
Lev regretted the suggestion as soon as it escaped his lips. Yes, put the burden on Rio, especially the judgment of peoples’ lives.
”M-Maybe it’s better to follow… While it’s still dark, we can still blend into the night. There’s only two so if it comes down to it…”
Levenin tried to remember how long he’d conked out for, which was impossible. The moon was well overhead by now, so an hour? Two hours? Where was it exactly last time he'd really looked at it? Either way, he had no idea how much time they had left until the cover of night left them. There wasn't anywhere to hide once the sun was back to light up the salvage zone for another day.
He received the answer to his question from watching Rio as she packed. If anyone had asked him to make a killing shot, he would’ve likely done the same as her (though with a lot more running and stuttering). He followed suit by slipping back into his boots and loading the pockets of his cape with back up weapons. Just in case. ”No, I uh… Fell asleep too. Guess I was more tired than I thought. Honestly, laying down, even for a minute, was a bad idea…”
Levenin still found it amusing that he was more of a threat than the two strangers they were now apparently stalking through the savannah. The targets in question had made a little headway as the thief and the lion continued to make conversation. Wherever they were going, their path was certain.
”If we move any further ahead, we’re gonna eventually end up in the grasslands… But my map says it’s here somewhere and so did yours… But they couldn’t both be wrong, could they? Unless this location is for something else… Guess it doesn’t matter if we’re gonna follow them. I just feel like we're really missing something here and neither of our respective groups were aware...”Sorry for the delay. Work was busy and then Stardew Valley happened hehehe.
