─────── Content Limitations and re:DUX's Future ─────── You know what sucks? Content limitations. You know what's hard to work with on re:DUX? Content limitations.
As we're sure all of you have noticed, the PG-13 rule on proboards makes writing re:DUX situations quite difficult at times. From mature themes to the violence that might plague the world, the restrictions on what is and isn't acceptable for the proboards ToS makes toeing the line a very tricky and messy battle. The content limitations are unfortunately vague, so it’s hard to determine what could get us in trouble or shut down by the proboards staff. This has also made it harder for us to implement certain features like an on site chat for fear of breaking content rules. In short, it’s made all of our lives a lot harder. THE solution ──────────── [/font][/div][/ul] Where you come in ──────────── [/b][/u] comment and let us know if you have any other questions, ideas, or concerns. If you don’t agree with the move that’s fine, let us know why! Even if you’re just agreeing with someone, it really helps us to see how many people are interested in this as a solution. This thread is mainly here for discussion on how to better re:DUX moving forward and for us to talk to you.[/font][/div][/ul]

THE CATCH (It’s always money isn’t it?) ──────────── [/b] In one lump sum it seems like quite a bit, but if members donate a small bit here and there over the course of the move it will hopefully come together more easily. For the initial move, we would like for the members to cover at least half of this fee. We would plan to have a PayPal specifically for re:DUX and all funds donated would go to this yearly fee as well as site improvements and advertising to get the word out about the site. If you think you’d be able to contribute to helping us move, please PM (don’t post here!) all of the admins with an estimate of how much you think you could give. This is in no way obligates you to donate to us if/when the site move actually does occur, but it lets us get a good idea of whether it would be possible or not. [/font][/div][/ul] CODING ──────────── [/font][/div][/ul] APPROVED CHARACTERS ──────────── [/font] [/div][/ul] UNAPPROVED CHARACTERS ──────────── [/font] [/div][/ul] POST COUNT ──────────── [/font] [/div][/ul] ACTUAL RPS ──────────── [/font][/div][/ul] TIMING ──────────── [/b][/u] of work. As previously said though, this would also be bundled with the large content release so that there would be many new things in the world of re:DUX to enjoy along with the new forum! [/font][/div][/ul] With that all said, we want to remind you that this thread is here for the purpose of discussion, so we encourage you to post as frequently as you'd like! Again, even if it's just to say you support the move or if you'd rather not, we’d like to hear why! If there’s something you’re unsure about, whether it’s the move as a whole or just an aspect of it, all we ask is for a reason why so that we can try to find new potential solutions to this issue. Whoo, we know that was a doozy to get through, but thank you all for sticking through it! We look forward to hearing what you have to say!

Personally I'm all for it. It sounds like while it'll be a bit of a headache it would be worth it, at least to me. This forum is full of a bunch of psychopathic perverts so some more content freedom would be great. : D

Hops in! It'd be nice not to have the restrictions so here's a list of concerns I have about moving ; 3 ; I'm for it, but I wanna know about certain things. - Multiple accounts! I'm pretty sure last i looked, jcink allows for sub-account type things to make it easy for those of us w/ too many characters. It still has that, right?
- What happens on a year when the $80.00 fee isn't paid? Is the forum taken down / held hostage by jcink until its paid? Would any 18+ content be automatically grounds for deletion of the forum if the $80.00 can't be paid? I'm concerned that if it can't be paid for, our content will be at risk.
- Are there other options that you guys have looked at other than jcink, maybe ones that involve more of an upfront cost but lower yearly or something?
- Are you guys considering implementing ads to help cover jcink costs if it's viable?

I have to say, jcink being $80 a year is really insanely overpriced, even if you have people chipping in. My suggestion would be to utilize xenforo software + host a server specifically for redux. It's more expensive up front, but it would be worlds cheaper in the long run. Especially because servers and domains can come relatively cheaply, and xenforo only needs to be annually paid for if you need the official support (in which case it would become $40 + domain/server costs, not another $140).
I'm not entirely sure how the installation process goes, but they do have a $50 installation service.
It's a lot more money off the bat but -- it will be a cheaper goal annually to worry only about domain/server (which should be $50-60 or less). With jcink, if something happens and we can't make that $80, there would have to be a hasty removal of all mature content so the jcink big brothers could come inspect the board and return it to free with (really annoying) ads.
But! that being said! If people think they are realistically able to do the $80/year thing i would dig being able to have more freedom. My suggestion, if you guys decide to go jcink, is to build up at least $160 before the move -- that will cover you for two years. \o\ (And I know this is big talk from someone not in a position to donate currently, but \ ; A ; / just trying to think long term.)

QUESTIONS WHILE I'M THINKING ABOUT THEM:
1) So would this forum be an archive, essentially? No more active posting here? Since BBCode is supported on Jcink, in theory we'd be able to copy/paste profiles over easily, right? Because I got my profiles exactly how I want them, man. It took a really long time.
2) Would lit threads, hub posts, invite threads, and art threads be able to be transferred over as they are? I'm assuming the IC threads that actually deal with the plot would come over, so that documentation of Persephone's Reign, etc. still exists in site lore.
3) Would anyone consider making this the PG-13 board and the Jcink board the 18+? Though yeah, it sounds kinda dumb because then we're paying money for like... half of the RP content lol. I imagine we'll still be doing even PG-13 stuff over on a new board so disregard, I was just thinking about it.
4) My big concern would be our current userbase and potential future ones. I don't think we'd be allowed to link to the new Jcink site, yes? Because of content warnings? I worry it'd alienate some people who sorta lurk but don't actively post all that often. We'd be essentially starting from scratch, member wise. I guess just like... we'd be leaving behind a lot of existing characters and people, and it concerns me for some reason lol
5) Is there a limit of character limits in signatures? Because I kinda miss being able to link all of my profiles from my sig lol (not important)
MORE LATER when I think about them.

kyne - Jcink does still offer the subaccounts, yes! So it'd be easy to handle for everyone with tons of characters.
- If the fee isn't paid ( or its canceled ), then 14 days after that the board will be locked with only admin access. The content all remains and the only way anything is deleted is if the admins manually do it themselves. To unlock the board, the fee would need to be paid or all the mature content deleted before it could be unlocked. But either way, the content will be there and can be retrieved.
- For the most part jcink is the only site we've been able to find that actually offers the relaxed content without having to host our own server. Seeing as I'm more on the code side than server side, I'm not sure I could handle it without quite a bit of research and work on my part aha. However, if you have suggestion for others sites please don't be afraid to share them! We want redux to be more open for everyone to enjoy their content without the worry of limitations.
- Putting ads on the site is entirely possible, yes! Jcink supports your own ads to build revenue. This is more of a community side discussion because while some people have no issues with ads - others hate them with a burning passion.
Polydeuces We actually looked into hosting our own server for the forum way back when we originally opened - and just like then we realized it's not really something we can swing. Between the forum software cost, and the actual server hosting ( not to mention potential add-ons, extensions, skins, and potential set up fees ) that's looking at an initial of at least $200, which is just something we definitely don't want to do. On top of that we also don't have someone on our team that can confidently run the server and tackle any issues that might arise. Running the server is a huge responsibility, and I'd personally not want to put that on someone else. My thought is 'If I can't fix it, then we don't need it', because running into issues no one can fix will cause more issues than not ;v; Thank you for the suggestion though, chika! It's always really nice to have other options that we might have missed. Thinking long term is definitely something we're doing, and concerns / ideas help us 10-fold! And we've actually already got a 'backup fund' so to speak for if anything happens as well. Levenin - An archive, yes! We have no plans at all to delete this board, so it's here forever \o/ And correct on the coding! I've already personally checked with my old profile coding and it went through without an issue. The only thing that's touchy is wrap, but I can look into it o7
- If I'm able to find a way to full transfer the threads, then yes. But people are of course welcome to post them again -and we'll also have everything that happened IC continue as well. Everything here is canon, it's just moving platforms to gain more freedom aha
- nama ur a nerd and ilu /HIT. But yeah everything would be done over there. Things could be referenced without having to censor as much, and the only 'content police' would be our own personal admin team.
- Actually, we could link it! Because all of the mature content will be hidden thanks to usergroups, so it doesn't have any worry about breaking the ToS over here. So no one would be left behind if they wanted to continue on with us.
- There is only a character limit if we set one from what I can tell, so you're good to go \o/

being a fresh summer egg here, i don't have the same content on this board as many folks, and so i can't really contribute in the way of concerns to the same degree. my opinion here definitely doesn't hold the same weight as everyone who's be on this forum for quite some time! however, i still wanted to pop in and say that the move is something i'd be interested in. you're all putting a huge amount of time and effort into making redux something all users would find accessible and practical, and i mostly just wanted to thank you for that. it's incredible to see a group that cares so much about their brain child universe as well as what the user base wants to see from it. i really haven't done anything on here at this point so maybe it sounds like i'm just blowing smoke up everyones' asses but! obviously it would be a massive headache at the start for everyone involved, especially staff, and fact that you're willing to do that for yourselves and everyone on here, both people you're close with and some you've never talked to, speaks a lot about you all. it's very very nice that Kenny and Lills are both offering to help people with coding ur a couple of sweethearts mwah /end ass kissing maybe. probably noti am really interested in what Scotty proposed, in terms of ads - i usually use AdBlocker personally, but would be more than happy to allow them on the new board if that would lighten the load! i'd also be super psyched at the prospect of havin a live chat going

Hi yes hello~ I mostly support the idea for the convenience it would bring the SINNERS here and just overall bring freedom to the board. But as someone who's not a frequent/regular visitor I worry about the server cost. :c HOWEVER it does bring me comfort knowing that if the server fee isn't paid for the forum won't be insta deleted.

i literally haven't established myself onto this forum yet so //sweats) i literally don't have much to say when it comes to the forum content wise but -- i'm all YES for this idea. jcink is a great forum hosting site and literally i'm just all about having that html customization okay Q ___Q just as long as people are alright with having to pay that $80 tho - i'm sure a forum full of people can easily pay that kind of fee but i know people can be a little bit iffy when it comes to that kind of stuff.
overall, i don't mind having to transfer characters and re-code everything for my profiles on the new site. honestly, this type of thing is better than just limiting your creative expression in a world that clearly allows for it but we just can't because dumb vague ToS rules :'U
