It was honestly pretty smooth sailing so far. Kyne managed to blend in well enough on his way through the Upper Class district, of course on his way to do a 'delivery' as far as anyone official was concerned. He'd had a few less than legal things to go take care of but when he was done that, it was one more stop before he carried on back into more obscure and less high security places.
Had to check up on someone - after all, it was what a good older brother figure was for, right? It'd been a side trip to the flower shop where Polydeuces worked that lead him to the young man's home, seeing as that was apparently where he was that day. There had been more time than the usual between trips to the Upper Class district and he really wanted to see how Poly was doing - just calling him was a little risky considering Kyne really didn't want to associate himself too much with anyone if he didn't have to, especially people he was trying to keep safe.
It wasn't too far between the shop and Poly's place, and once he found his way there,Kyne glanced around to make sure there was no one giving him any suspicious eyes before knocking.
It wasn't like he could have gotten into too much trouble since he'd seen him last, right?

Welp. That was certainly a thing that had happened. When Poly finally came to the following morning, he'd been a little surprised to find himself passed out on the couch. Whoops, that wasn't where he'd expected to fall asleep. He also hadn't expected the blanket, or -- frankly -- Zeke to be settled into the armchair fast asleep. A tiny smile touched his lips; it was... kind of comforting.
He had the day off, thankfully, so he made a point to move around as quietly as possible. Generally on his days off he would slip away into the lower class district and the slums to hand out flower crowns for kids, but, well. He couldn't just leave Zeke like this. Instead, he started to plan on what he could cook for the blond. Sure, there were leftovers of the soup but soup was way too filling for lunch. It was more of a eat this and go pass out into a food-coma thing.
But as he thumbed through a thrown together recipe book, a knock at his door spooked him a little, drawing a startled gasp from his lips. Who in the world...? Quietly still, he moved over to the door, opening it just a crack and peeking out. What waited for him on the other side was a familiar face.
"Oh, hey, it's you!" he chimed excitedly, before catching himself and lowering his voice. "U-um, aha, this is a little unexpected...! What brings you here? :D;;;;" Of course, his body language probably immediately read as suspicious, considering he made no movement to actually... open the door more. Hiding something? Whaaat? Nooooo. Not him. No strange homeless men in his home, aha.

It takes a bullshitter to know bullshit and when Poly answered the door, all on edge and blocking entrance, Kyne immediately knew there was something going on. The greeting had at first been a usual tone but when the younger of the two lowered his voice suddenly, there was an arch to dark eyebrows and he leaned forward on the doorframe, trying to be a bit imposing. To someone half a foot taller than you gREAT JOB KYNE,,,,
"Oh, you know," He said, very knowingly even though he had actually no idea what had Poly all twisted up. "Checking up on you. Everything okay here?"
Kyne made a very obvious, if futile, effort to see around Poly. He somehow didn't think it was actual trouble - - he was sure that Poly knew to call him if it was that. But there was... definitely something going on. Maybe it was a good thing that he'd come by just now, then - that he had time to check up on him because if there was something going on that was not so great, he could fix it. Maybe. Hopefully.
Now he just had to get Poly to stop hiding in his doorway because that was really the worst way to hide that stuff wasn't ordinary.

Oh no Kyne immediately gave him a look. Poly felt his shoulders tense up as soon as those dark eyebrows arched, and he started chewing on his lower lip. He wasn't... good... at hiding this whole hiding someone in his house thing, was he? He swallowed, kind of shrinking a little bit and -- despite that fact that the redhead was shorter than him -- actually a little intimidated. (That was probably because of the guilt pushing down on his shoulders, honestly.)
Flinching and kind of sort of trying to keep any outside looks from peeking in, he gave a nervous smile. "Huh? Yeah, of course! It's not like I have a stranger in my house asleep or anything ahahaha---hrk."
He stopped in his tracks, eyes widening and gaze instantly dropping to the ground. Well. Um. Shoot. That's not obvious at all, good job Poly. He bit his lip once again before he glanced back up at Kyne, sheepish smile on his face. "I-I, um... ...I'm not recovering from that, am I..." A shaky laugh escaped him as he opened the door a little wider, so his unexpected guest could come in if he wanted.

Well, despite the fact that he had to look pretty far up to do it, he was still having the intended effect on Poly. Kyne watched him almost seem to shrink back while trying to wave it off and laugh as if absolutely nothing was wrong. Kyne didn't drop the look until exactly what Poly said hit him and then he leaned back a bit, suddenly confused and really hoping that he wasn't being serious.
"It's not like - - what."
Poly seemed to realize that this was the biggest nail in the coffin, though, and admitted that outright before opening the door to let Kyne in. Of course Kyne did this, glancing around to look for some strange man sleeping on Poly's couch. Honestly, he was just as bad as Attie was and the last thing Kyne wanted was for Poly to have to go through what his other friend had - he hadn't been there for Attie but Poly was still here in the Upper class, where he'd stay if he could help it any.
It didn't take long to locate the presence of a fairly rough looking blond man draped over a chair, very much asleep. Kyne looked between the blond and Poly, a sort of 'what-the-hell-are-you-thinking' look hanging in the silence before he spoke. He almost had to catch himself to lower his voice because the last thing he wanted was an unknown party hanging in on the conversation but still. What was he thinking, taking in strange people? A stranger could be absolutely anyone, could be trouble, could bring trouble that he just didn't want to see Poly get into. Hopefully this was no one dangerous or involved in dangerous crap.
Crossing his arms, he finally spoke quietly and then waited for a response. "So. Taking in strangers?"

Final nail in the coffin was damn right. Poly moved aside as Kyne came in, head hung in defeat. It wasn't that he was entirely bad at lying. It was mostly -- there was something about the shorter redhead that made Poly feel like he had to be honest with him. Maybe it was some sense of brotherhood, or something. Either way, he shut the door quietly behind Kyne, and turned to face him.
There was a thick silence for a moment, and he was given another look as soon as Zeke was spotted. A lot of thoughts were swimming in his head for a minute as he chewed on his lip. Weehhh. Disappointed big bro stares. ): "It's not quite that simple, I..." Poly brought a hand up to rub the back of his head sheepishly, glancing over at Zeke for a moment before looking back at Kyne. "It's kind of a long story, but um, don't worry, he's really sweet. Actually, he's the one who made this! :D"
He brought a hand up, pointing to the flower crown on his head (yes he was still wearing it shut up). Lowering his hands, he twiddled his thumbs together a moment as he looked back over at the resting blond. A small smile touched his face, glad all over again that he'd stayed. "He couldn't hurt a fly, honest."

As Poly gave a really incomplete explanation of what was going on, Kyne found himself running his hands through the loose parts of his bangs with a sigh. Poly.... what was he doing taking in strangers. No matter how harmless someone seemed, they could be involved in anything. A glance over at the sleeping man was enough to say that yeah, he'd at least seen some shit though it was of course impossible to tell whose fault it might have been. Either way, though, a shady history was a shady history and that meant Poly needed to be more careful if he didn't see that.
When he glanced back at Poly, though, he had a feeling this was going to be more than just a small bit of trouble. The touch of a smile that had hit Poly's face as the younger of the two glanced at the blond told Kyne that he was going to have to have more than a few words with Poly because he knew that look was trouble. He knew.
Oh I hope for Poly's sake you're no one dangerous, he thought at the blond before the man in question seemed to stir a bit in the chair, not awakening but... moving a bit. Probably not the best place to have a discussion about Poly's questionable life choices. With a resigned look to his face, Kyne released a breath and then turned his attention back to Poly. "I've got some other things to do so I should actually head out, but I am going to talk to you later. And Poly...."
Kyne paused here, hanging on his words for a second. This was probably nothing, the stranger was probably no one- he really wanted to believe that. "Be careful, okay? You get even the slightest idea that something bad's going on, call me, I don't care what time it is it's not a problem."

In the back of his mind, Poly knew there was something under the surface here. He knew that there were a lot of facts he didn't have, but there couldn't have been anything malicious about Zeke. There really couldn't have been. No, he had definitely made up his mind: he refused to believe Zeke would be trouble for him. A handful, maybe. But trouble? No.
When Zeke started to stir, though, he felt a bit startled. The blond had been so skittish around Poly that another new person this soon might not be so great -- but Kyne beat him to any sort of commentary about leaving. Blue eyes fell on the other man, and he offered a sheepish smile. A talk? Oh, boy... That probably wasn't going to be easy. At least he'd be able to explain a little better, he guessed.
But he couldn't have been finished -- he trailed off his sentence. Poly blinked a few times, offering an inquisitive look as he waited for the silence to be filled again. When it was, though, a smile returned to his face. "Don't worry so much, you're gonna get wrinkles. Nothing bad is gonna happen." He laughed softly, before shaking his head. "But I understand -- I've got you on speed dial."
Pausing, he looked from Zeke to the kitchen and back to Kyne again. "Oh, before you go, do you want some stew to take with you? There's plenty of leftovers, and I'm sure Attie would appreciate it too. :D" And luckily he had already portioned it off in little containers out of habit thanks pen ur habits were contagious.

The answer to his overprotectiveness was a jab. Kyne snorted a laugh in response.
"If anyone gives me wrinkles it's gonna be you, I'm sure," he said but now he was mostly teasing. Poly would have to be off the hook for now but Kyne would get to talking to him later. As the blond on the couch stirred again, he figured he didn't want to make the situation actually escalate into awkward. And.. .well, what he said was sort of true - he really shouldn't be sticking around longer than made sense given his excuse for heading into the Upper Class. He might be pretty good at sneaking around wherever the hell he wanted but part of that was because he knew when not to push his luck. "Thanks but I really gotta get going though, so I'll pass for now. Maybe I can bribe with some goodies so you to try not to lie badly when I catch you later, though," he added with a wink, knowing full well that bribe-treats or no bribe-treats that he was going to get some answers from Poly.
Backtracking out the door, he hesitated on the doorstep and then said, "Really, don't worry about calling me if you need me. You don't need to let yourself get into trouble when that's what I'm here for."
With a spare glance at the sleeping man, he decided against adding another warning because... well, if Poly didn't get that he was worried and coming for answers from him later by now, he wasn't going to get it at all. Please let this not be trouble, he thought as he slipped into the street with a lazy wave, though he had a horrible feeling that it just.... would be. Everything was trouble here.

Whaaaat? Poly give him wrinkles? Nonsense! A grin cracked across his face at the tease, though he knew -- especially with Kyne's following sentence. Another sort of sheepish laugh escaped him. He didn't really want to be grilled or anything but -- oh man, goodies. Sweets. Home-made Kyne-made sweets. "Give me an apple tart or something and I'll consider skipping the beating around the bush stuff," he declared lightly, knowing full well he wasn't going to lie anyway because no, that wasn't an option, not to the redhead.
He nodded as Kyne hesitated, though, trying to put on a reassuring look. "I'll be okay, but thanks for looking out for me. I'll take your words to heart." It was nice, really, having someone who seemed intent on looking out for him. Kyne was a good guy, too. Even if Poly didn't know him that well or see him that often, the redhead had enough of a presence that he could tell that much.
Giving a small wave and a quiet 'take care' as the other man set off, he closed the door once more and turned to lean against it for a moment with a sigh. Blue eyes wandered over to Zeke soon enough, though, wondering if he had already awoken or would be sleeping much longer.
