"Ideas spawned from convos with Kenny"
04:18 Glaz: I was thinking that sometime in the far future, Novus would start building bases and such in the area and connect them to the dome somehow. Redevelopment essentially
04:18 Glaz: obviously they would need to be built sturdier and be well guarded, but yeah
04:25 Glaz: there's not like, mining and resource development stations out there right now
04:27 Glaz: but I can see a lot of companies taking advantage of salvage zones
04:28 Glaz: building stations, unregulated resource extraction, hiring security companies to keep the areas and personnel safe, etc.
Basically Novus private companies leading the way to salvage zone reclamation and redevelopment (this would be way long term). Starting off with mining, water decontamination/desalinization, resource gathering, etc. The companies partnering up with security firms to keep the stations safe, transport companies and the government to strengthen and improve the train systems out there so that they're faster and better protected, etc. Creates jobs that people's characters can do that would be viable with their work being a train-ride away. Miners, Security personnel, on-site mechanics and physicians, scientists (geologists, biologists). There's a lot that can be had with frontiers like those.
Thoughts?

That does seem like the natural progression of things to come. As it is, with the zones being open, I assume that something of a base exists on each one because of the train having to pull in somewhere that’s fairly guarded/secure. Companies coming in to make use of the zones as a resource makes sense. As would folk coming in and colonizing imo! Little settlements of scavengers and the like, nature lovers, spiritualists, etc.
Personally, I would hope that this industrialization does not take over the entirety of the zones. Surely some zones are less fit for this than others and not worth developing, and therefore stay at least mostly wild. I need me some wilderness~!
I do love the idea of scientific exploration tho <3
