That was essentially her job, was it not? In the case the her other protective measures failed ( which they had ), it was her job to get hurt instead of him. And if she was deeming herself a success at her job for merely standing between him and the threat, he might as well start paying the door to be his bodyguard instead of her. It would certainly give him less backtalk.
He grimaced slightly at the sounds of the claws against the metal. Yes, how lovely. He just loved being cornered within his own home. The place that Kendra was supposed to make one of the most secure places he could ever be. So lovely to be forced out of your own quarters. He gave her a dry stare as she spoke. Well, glad she'd figured out how unhelpful she was. But if she was refusing to get rid of the beast in his home then he supposed that was the next best option, however mediocre it was.
He sighed and grabbed his weapon to follow after her, holding it ready as they moved. You know what would be better than retreating from his house and coming back later after it had done god knows what to his belongings? Killing it now. She was a member of one of the most elite military forces and she couldn't get rid of one animal on short notice. Perhaps he would have been better off notifying pest control. They may have been able to give him some tips on dealing with the one in front of him too.
Samuel's muscles were tensed as they moved through his house and outside. Still tempting to shoot Kendra. A slight breeze hit his face as they stepped through the door, though he didn't relax just yet. He paused, lifting his gun as he heard a slight scuffle behind him. His rifle pointed at the door, finger poised over the trigger as he hissed slightly to grab Kendra's attention. Which did him all of shit good when something barreled into him from the side, his teeth gritting together as he was flung to the ground, claws digging into his arm. "Kendra!" He moved to point his gun at the creature, but it had his other arm pinned down.

As she had said before, she didn't know how the system could have failed. It made no damned sense, and she was determined to find out why - once they were actually out of harms way. If he would rather have a door than her, so be it. Her life would be easier.
Though, it wasn't so much the fact of only having one beast to deal with - it was the simple fact something got in. Until she could fully look over things and any sort of broken instance for his security system, it meant something else could get in. Let his pride be wounded. Better than losing his life. He could stare all he wanted.
The air felt stale. Something wasn't right. She couldn't hear anything approaching and it gave her a moment of pause to relax slightly. At least until she heard Samuel hiss and go down.
"Samuel!" She hissed through her teeth and clenched her fist. A soft click came from her left arm as the square blade activated and slid through the sleeve of her suit. One smooth motion was all she needed to cut Samuel free, a howl of pain coming from the creature while it staggered and backed up. "Get on my bike!" Kendra commanded while ripping her helmet off and tossing it to him to put on. She didn't wait to see if he responded or even took the helm before moving between him. A pivot, and her foot slammed into its chest and sent it staggering backwards before turning tail to run.

Nice to see her mouth was still working, even if the rest of her skills weren't. That seemed about the norm for their interactions lately, didn't it? Samuel hissed through his teeth as he felt the claws dig deeper into his skin, the beast's face inches from his. But before it could lunge its teeth towards him, it let out a pained howl and pushed itself off him. He wasted little time in rolling to his feet, taking a few staggered steps to regain his balance before moving towards her bike. He saw her toss the helmet towards him, but ducked to the side and let it fly past. One of his arms was injured and the other was busy holding his weapon, which he didn't intend to let go of. Besides, it meant limited visibility which he was less than keen on at the moment.
It took just a second for him to place himself on the motorcycle, eyes studying its controls carefully. Kendra had ten more seconds before he drove off himself. It wasn't a model he'd used before, but he'd seen them enough times to know the basics of how it was used. It could have been coded to her NUIP, but there were a few ways around that if the need arose. Which it very well might in this situation.

It would take more than a couple seconds to actually work his way into the bike. Custom components, NUIP coded, as well as biometrically locked. Her motorcycle wasn't going to get stolen without a lot more effort than it was worth.
She didn't take the time to stop for her helmet while running towards her bike, leaving it in the grass for whoever ( or whatever ) decided to pick it up. It wasn't anything special, so she didn't feel too awful about leaving it there. Her hand slid onto a flat panel on the center gauge, a rumble of life running through the vehicle while she made sure Samuel was out of the way enough so that her foot didn't accidentally end up hitting him in the face as she mounted the motorcycle.
"Hold on to something." She called without looking back, her foot kicking the gear before they sped off into the night. No traffic made the travel between his house and her own easier, and before long they were pulling into her garage while her house lit up. The entrance opened remotely while the garage door shut behind them, the bike powering down. "How's your arm? I've got a first aid kit inside."

Well, that all assumed he cared enough to be able to use the bike later or get any information out of it. If his goal was simply to get out of range of his house in a short amount of time before allowing it to break down completely, there were some shortcuts. But she'd managed to get to the bike in a reasonable amount of time anyways, so it wasn't anything they'd have to worry about for now.
He swapped his weapon to his injured arm, the other gripping at the side of the bike while he turned his shoulder to look behind them. Didn't seem like anything was following them, but he wasn't going to take it for granted. When they pulled into her house he slipped off the bike, keeping his weapon in his hand as they moved out of the garage. "Anesthetic if you have it and any first aid or surgical supplies." He supposed he could use magic to numb the pain if she didn't, but he'd rather not. "Novigel and sterile places for storing samples. I assume even if you don't have a lab you have some forensics tools around here? Scissors as well."

"Wait in the living room. I'll be back in a moment with everything you need." He knew his way around enough to not need her to walk him where he needed. Frustrating he actually had gotten hurt. Not because she gave a shit about his wellbeing so much as the fact he could use it against her later and make excuses about her being horrid at her job. At least they were safe.
Kendra moved through her house while turning on lights and activating various security measures. There wouldn't be any reason to bring him to her home if it wasn't secure. A sigh left her as she stood in front of her armory, placing her hand on the scanner. The door clicked, slowly swinging open as she stepped inside and took a sharp right turn. While she didn't have a full lab, there were things to at least run samples through simple blood and contamination tests.
A lone cart sat off to the side of her makeshift medical station, supplies already on it from the last time she prepared. Another sigh and she grabbed a basin, filling it with lukewarm water under an emergency sink as she took told of a towel, novigel, and the anesthetic he requested. It should have been fine. While she didn't use it personally, it never hurt to have. A suture kit was the next thing she grabbed before turning off the water and setting it on the bottom of the cart.
Kendra pulled the cart out with her, closing the door behind her and listening to it click afterwards. They could run tests as needed once he was patched up and not bleeding on her carpet. Lucky for him she even brought test tubes and petri dishes. "I'll get you something to drink while you work on this. I'd offer to do it myself, but I know that's a waste of time. I've got a lab you can use once everything is settled with your arm. It's not quite the same as your own, but it should work." She said once in the living room, letting the cart come to a stop near him.

Excuses? She'd failed her job. Her security for his home had been lackluster and even with her physically being there he had still ended up injured. She'd actively failed the tasks she was paid to do. He didn't need any excuse to let her know that. Kendra had achieved the bare minimum and somehow seemed indignant he wasn't praising her for her effort.
Samuel walked into the living room, scanning for a good place to get this done on. He settled for a decently high counter, pushing himself onto it with his good arm. He pushed his shoes off onto the ground before crossing them underneath himself, holding his arm in front of himself to get a look at the damage while he waited for Kendra to return. Funny how she thought this place was secure because of her systems. They'd thought just as much of his own home, hadn't they?
He looked at her as she spoke, giving a quick glance up and down at her scars. A waste of time indeed. "No, stay there. I'll need you to hand me the equipment and contain the samples." He spoke as he reached over to grab the scissors, carefully lining it up against his sleeve and beginning to cut away the fabric. When he finally had it removed, he carefully handed it to Kendra to put away before reaching to grab the needle of anesthetic. He gave a small squirt to ensure there were no air bubbles in its tip before quickly stabbing it into his arm. Best to get this done quickly, but he had a few quick things to do as his arm went numb. A few quick swipes of the wound and the area around it, handed to Kendra. And then a different syringe to grab a blood sample from one of his veins. Would need to make sure he hadn't been infected with anything.
With that done, he set about disinfecting the area and stitching it up. The anesthetic had done wonderfully in removing all feeling, and he was hardly bothered by the idea of patching himself up. He was the more trustworthy one here between the two of them, after all. It wasn't a process he enjoyed doing single handedly, but it wasn't the first time he'd done it. When he was finished, a neat line of stitches made its way across his arm, and he grabbed some Novigel and carefully applied it on top. It would speed up the process somewhat at least. With that done, he let the still numb arm drop to the side.
"Now then, I'd like to analyze those samples. If you have any clean clothes, I'd vastly prefer that to a drink." He'd seen what the type of liquor she drank did to her, after all. He'd rather not risk ingesting the same substances. Her lab wouldn't be as helpful as his, but it was better than nothing. But the tests to identify the creature should be fairly simple, so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

The could go over details all he wanted, but he was still alive. She could argue the job was failed the moment he decided to stay up for multiple days without sleep, or anything else that put his health at risk. She didn't expect praise, but that didn't stop him from being an ass.
The difference between her home and his was the safe room and escape routes. Much as he might complain, she was next to him from then on. Not having a delay helped if anything were to happen.
She raised a brow at him looking over her face - no doubt staring at the scars. She hadn't exactly been trained back then, nor did she actually receive decent medical care. But that didn't really matter.
While Samuel worked, Kendra stayed next to him and worked with him, watching. His focus on the task at hand was admirable, she had to admit. Not that she'd ever actually tell him that, of course.
"Clothes. Give me a moment and I'll get you some." She stepped back and rolled her shoulder. "By the way. I meant juice, not alcohol. Much as you might think little of me, I'd not exactly offer that." She shrugged and moved towards her bedroom, shuffling around while gathering a pair of comfortable pants and shirt that would fit him. But for a moment, she stopped and grabbed a very small, and very tight, shirt. A small grin spread across her face as she folded it on top of the pants, making sure to hide the actual button-up shirt under the pants before walking back into the living room and holding them out to him.
"I recommend showering before actually changing."

Internal and external risks to his health were entirely different matters. What he did with his own health was his own responsibility, but it was her job to make sure he had no other surprises or risks to worry about. What was she expecting, exactly?
Well, they could still be treated now and she hadn't cared to do anything about them. Which showed that they held different priorities for the appearance of their skin. Kendra was fine to do whatever she wanted with her own body, but he'd rather not chance his appearance being altered by anyone who didn't hold similar aesthetic values to his own. But yes, it wasn't entirely surprising that she was impressed by someone who could focus on their job without distraction or complaints. It seemed like a foreign concept to her, after all.
"I don't recall saying anything about what you were offering me." And unless she was suddenly able to read minds, he'd let her think she was the one that brought that up. But he waited silently while she grabbed the clothes, although his finger tapped idly on the counter. He'd have to borrow one of her displays or holopads when he was out of the shower. It irritated him to not be able to access his work and network. When she returned, he grabbed the clothes without looking at them. "Reasonable. I'll show myself to the bathroom. Run some of that blood for standard diseases and infections while I'm in there, but don't use all of it." There were some things he imagined she didn't know how to test for, after all.
His shower was quick, but thorough, making sure to remove any dirt and blood from the scuffle but being careful not to strain his arm. When he stepped out he toweled off his hair briefly before going to the clothes Kendra had brought for him. Holding it up, a quick glance was all he needed to tell the shirt on top was too small. Well, he could easily go grab a fitting shirt if needed, since he knew where she kept them. But the other fell out as he slipped on the pants and he raised an eyebrow slightly. Odd choice to give him two shirts, but perhaps the night was getting to her. He threw the smaller shirt in the laundry bin in the bathroom before returning to the living room. "Have the tests finished running?"

Sometimes she wondered why he even needed a 'bodyguard'. There were rare occasions when he got into trouble, and it wasn't as if he was the main target. She knew it was because of their arrangement thanks to his less than legal work on the side - though he certainly seemed to forget that.
"Shampoo is already in there, soap as well." She said while he walked off. Once he was out of sight, she gathered up the blood samples and took them to be analyzed, setting the machines to work before moving outside the room and listening to the water run. Better to be close in case anything happened.
Kendra closed her eyes and crossed her arms while she waited for the water to turn off. When it finally stopped, she moved away from the room and went to sit straight on her couch. The coffee table had a couple drawers on the underside, and it happened to be where she stored holopads connected to the different sections of her house. She pulled one out, connected to her armory systems, and glanced over the results of the tests.
"They have. I've got the results." She continued to look over words on the screen while he approached before offering it to him. "The food and drink offer still stands. You might not have said anything before, but you're quite good at bringing up less than pleasant topics so I assumed what you meant by drinks before." Even if she couldn't read his mind, she knew well enough that he certainly enjoyed pointing out the shortcomings of others and mistakes they made in the past.
