He paid her, so beyond that she didn't much need to question why he needed her. But while his less than legal affairs were certainly part of it, there were enough dangers in the city to warrant some extra safety. Vigilantes and disgruntled work parents aside, the Upper Class was hardly a friendly place. And as they'd seen, extraneous dangers were about as well.
He took the holopad from her, eyes scanning over everything quickly. Nothing infected or any other diseases detected. Samuel scrolled through some of the other results, frowning. Nothing that gave any decisive information about what had attacked them. They needed more tests. Any animal should have been identifiable. His eyes shot to her skeptically when she spoke again. Was she still lingering on that comment? Odd. "Coffee. Need to figure out what did this." He made his way over to the cart, grabbing its edge and pulling it behind him and making his way towards her lab. Seeing as he didn't know it's exact location, he could only assume it was behind one of the armored doors she loved so much. He waited in front of them until she came over to unlock them, then pulled the cart through the armory and over to one of the larger tables in the forensics room before spreading out his samples in front of him and setting up the basic kits. The low quality of her equipment (at least compared to his own) was irritating, but he would make do with what he had.

It almost seemed like he wanted her to be beside him 24/7. And she had quite a notion that wasn't the case. For either of them. Nowhere in the city could be considered safe, not really. There would always be someone lurking and waiting to take advantage when they could.
He could be skeptical all he wanted, but the point still stood he had lost blood and needed to raise his sugar levels. She doubted he had eaten recently, and his asking for coffee only just tipped her off on him going into 'work mode'. Which meant he'd be tuning out the world. She got up without a word and walked towards the lab door, unlocked it for him, and them turned to walk into her kitchen, setting to making coffee and gathering at least a few snacks she knew he liked. Small biscuits, nothing overly sweet or boring, easy to pop into your mouth without struggling.
As the coffee finished, she pulled out a white mug with the molecular structure for caffeine printed on the side and poured the coffee into it. She knew he wouldn't actually notice the mug, and she might have been tempted to give him one of the dumb mugs Parker had given her over the years. But for once he was saved from her subtle jokes. She grabbed the mug and plate of snacks, walking it into the lab and placing it out of the way.
"If you need more equipment, just give me specifics." She said while sliding the food and drink over towards him before going back to get her own cup of coffee - though instead of black she put cream and sugar in her own. She'd need to stay up while he worked for at least a time. Well, she couldn't complain. A new novel had recently released and she could take the time to read it.

Not 24/7, but her security systems were supposed to cover the time she was not with him. And it was true enough that safety could never be completely guaranteed, but it was better to have some safeguards in place than none.
When she set the food down, he very carefully shifted it so it wouldn't risk contaminating the samples. He pulled his holoscreen up again, quickly compiling a list of supplies before sending it to her. He started some of the basic tests again while she went to get them, one hand bringing the mug to his lips to take a sip of the coffee. There must have been some errors in the tests run before, because none of them gave any information that made sense with what had happened. But he could run them until he found the answer.

Samuel ran his hand through his hair as the information from his tests filtered in front of him on the screen. Nothing new. Nothing important. He scowled, fingers tapping against the table. His coffee had run out hours ago, and he'd abandoned the biscuits as well. Something must have been missing. Identifying an animal, especially with all the samples he had, should have been easy. As far as he could tell there was nothing wrong with him specifically, but he wasn't satisfied with settling for that. "Kendra, go back and find it. Or some part of what you cut off." He muttered the words mostly to himself, not looking over at her. But after a minute with no sign of her moving to do it, he growled her name again. "Kendra, I need more samples." Again, no response. His head snapped towards her, voice raised slightly. "Kendra!"

While Samuel began running his tests, she took the time to go and grab a comfortable chair to sit in while waiting. No reason to stand the entire time, really.
Kendra settled down into the chair and pulled out her own holopad, searching through the downloaded books she had gotten over the past week. It wasn't quite the same as holding actual paper - but there hadn't been time to go visit a bookstore in a while. Her eyes scanned over the words, absorbed in the text while she drowned out any noise Samuel might have been making. She knew how he got. Well, hopefully he'd finish up soon.
xxx
Some point along the way, Kendra had fallen asleep. She curled up in the chair, had left her holopad on her chest, and fell into a dreamless sleep while waiting for Samuel to finally finish his work. Usually she was a light sleeper, but from everything that had happened that day - it seemed to have drained her.
So when he called her name, she barely stirred save for a small grumble and shifting in the chair. Her brow knit together as he called again. She couldn't have been asleep for more than a few hours - why was he bothering her? And why he raised his voice, her eyes snapped open, hand instantly taking hold of her pistol and aiming. Her heart was pounding, body tense and ready to fight. At least until she looked around and realized the overhead lights were still on and Samuel looked worse for wear.
"What time is it?" She grumbled and rubbed her eyes, pulling up the time on her holopad that had long since gone to sleep. 11:36am. She couldn't remember when she fell asleep, but she did know he hadn't moved from that spot. "Samuel, have you not slept?"

He should have been able to make requests regardless of how long she had or hadn't been asleep. Obviously this was worth overtime pay, which meant she should still consider herself to be on the job. But he didn't flinch when she sat up with her pistol. Nice to see at least some of her values were still in tact. But her lethargic response was less than pleasing. Did he seem like he was here to wish her a good morning? "Kendra, I need you to go back and try to find the animal or any pieces of itself that it left behind." That was the fourth time now that he'd said it, and he wasn't keen on having to waste anymore time repeating himself. Her other question was hardly worth answering. This wasn't the first time he'd gone without sleep and it wouldn't be the last, especially if they didn't figure out what had been in his home. Besides, he was sure she knew the answer, and what was the point in asking something you already knew?

Unlike Samuel, she hadn't considered herself to actually be working while he looked over the tests and she read next to him. It'd be pointless to try and charge him for just being in his presence. And she didn't expect a good morning - especially not from him. Now that was a laughable thought.
A brow raised as he repeated himself. Did he honestly expect her to find anything? Maybe some blood samples, a clump of fur here or there. Maybe she'd find a few dead animals. Either way, the most she could do to appease him was to go along with the asinine plan.
"Alright, alright. I'll see what I can do." Better than being cooped up inside. But before she could actually start to follow through, she remember that she never cleaned her blade after actually getting home. She had completely forgotten. "Actually, I've got something to tide you over for a bit." She shrugged and rolled her shoulder, the square blade snapping out away from him before she lowered it down and looked at the dried blood. "It's not much, but you might be able to get something while I'm out."

Why would he be here if she wasn't working in some way? He'd been under the impression she was still fulfilling her job as a bodyguard. Pleasant to know she'd been completely slacking off though. And yes, there were multiple things she could find: Possible pieces of the beast, security footage with clearer shots of it, perhaps the animal itself so she could kill it the way she'd said she would once he'd escaped.
His eyes narrowed slightly when she snapped out her blade. "Why didn't you show me this before?" It could have easily been the piece he needed to figure this nonsense out. Could have saved them both a considerable amount of time. His hands quickly grabbed a dish and a small knife to scrape the blood off with. When he'd grabbed enough, he turned back around to his display, quickly pulling up several programs and starting to run tests. "You can go now." He spoke without looking at her, eyes running over the information in front of him.

"I was a bit more concerned with your arm." She doubted it would be the piece he needed. Things were too strange to have a simple solution. But that wouldn't stop him from focusing to the point of obsession. After he finished scraping the blood off, she pulled her arm back and retracted the blade.
"Use the lab as you like. Coffee is in the kitchen, same with food. Don't touch the weapon cases or evidence lockers, they're rigged to cause harm if anyone without my biosignature messed with them for more than three seconds. And then..." She reached behind her to dig through a drawer, pulling out two small ear pieces. "Put this in. It's a direct line to me if anything happens. Just say 'open channel' and it'll be connected."
Even if he didn't use it, she didn't much care. She doubted he even heard what she said. Once again, she shrugged and grabbed hold of a coat, slipped it on, and pulled the collar up to cover her lower face. With that, she moved towards her garage and started her motorcycle, thankful for the fresh air and time to herself.
