Rio smiled, interested and happy with the work she'd provided to the young officer as her face lit up with several shades of red and pink from the kiss they shared. The taste of Lyante's lip gloss was still feint on Rio's lips, fruity and a little mint. She seemed happy with the performance as well, Rio had noticed the little bit of passion she received in return before the two girls parted ways. The lion's ears perked, a mischievous grin spreading across her lips. Rio couldn't help but snicker a bit, letting out a restrained laugh as Lyante took a moment to mentally shut down and cope with what had just happened.
Surprising to the redhead however, Lyante did, and chose a dare of her own no less. "Mmmm, I think you need some mental recovery first. Let's pause on the truth or dare for now, maybe you should get something to drink first~" Another melancholy memory popped into the young womans mind- a vision of kissing her first boy in high school and the reaction he gave her by nearly feinting on the spot. It was adorable, to have a position of power over someone with something that- once you were used to it- seemed so trivial. To the uninitiated however, every touch was a powerful tool. It was something that could completely rewrite a persons train of thought when used correctly- certainly a skill worth training in the future. For now however, it was a simple exchange to make an inexperienced police officer flush.
Standing up and stretching in a catlike manner, Rio let out a long yawn that had the tiniest hint of a whine to the end of it. Her tail stretched out as well, ears flicking several times as she loosened up firm, trained muscles. "You had a half million plans for tonight, right? Show me what else you've got up your sleeve before I end up passing out on the floor~" Continuing to follow the idea that Lyante simply wanted a girls night to enjoy, Rio felt more and more obligated to give it to her. She had cleared her chart for the next two days- assuming she had a target to stalk and kill. This was the least she could do, and the mess involved was significantly reduced. It was a win win, as long as the intentions from both sides remained pure.
Sun and sky kissed eyes scanned over the plethora of snacks and activities littering the japanese-esque living area. Rio plopped on the couch, elbows resting casually on her knees as she scanned titles from various forms of entertaining media. Lyante had even brought out video games- a rarity in the slums to say the least. Then again, so was fish, high quality books, and name branded candy. It was almost depressing to think about, a sense of irony causing another redundant smile to grace the lions face. "Y'know. I'm learning a lot about you, I guess I should return some of the favor. I actually read...a lot. This eye of mine does a lot of things, one of which is delivering visual input faster to my brain than my organic eye. If I get the time or I'm not too sore after work, I'll usually go through a novel a night. I sorta...collect old school books. My way of insuring I've got something to read if this digital economy shits its pants."

Lyante nodded. Although she had picked dare, she wasn't sure she could complete any dares at the moment, still wobbly at the knees from the kiss.
"Y-you're right," she laughed weakly, "t-that was p-plenty, yeah."
She stood up with Rio, but stopped in her tracks when the catgirl stretched herself out, tails stretching with her and ears flicking just like in the movie Lyante hadn't dare mention to her sleepover buddy. Fighting back a nosebleed, Lyante slid open a cupboard and hiding her blush took out more sleeping supplies. Making two adjacent traditional japanese beds, Lyante propped up her pillow like she was used too, the crudely drawn figure facing her as she smiled, forgetting Rio was there for a second.
She flipped on a console and the tv screen and burrowed into the mess of blankets, gesturing for Rio to do the same. She placed one of the controllers on Rio's bed. "Ok, last for today before we go on to nighttime talk: videogames."
The titlescreen came on and showed a title from days gone by, a classic videogame meant for two players.
"It's my favourite series," Lyante explained, "I hear the story is great, but I've never actually make it past the first level."
Lyante looked away from Rio again. The game was meant to be co-op, not single player. "I've been trying to clear it since it came out 7 years ago. But Mr. Pillow just isn't much of a player 2." Turning towards the pillow, she began talking to it in a tone usually reserved for babies, "aww, but he tries his best, doesn't he? Yes he does, yes he does!" She hugged the thing thightly when suddenly her eyes snapped open: "...I... Erm...I...t-that doesn't l-leave this room, o-okay?"
Lyante and Rio played the game for a while, Lyante clearly more relaxed as the attention went to clearing the game. After a few hours they called it quits, having accomplished more in the past 2 hours than Lyante had managed to do in the previous 2450+ hours she had played it.
The light were killed as both of them prepared to doze off whzn suddenly Lyante whispered: " hey, Rio...are you still awake? I'm glad you came...
Hey, Rio? My r-real name is Lyante. B-but you can keep calling me Lya...
Hey, Rio...if you read all these schoolbooks, do you think you'll test back into the upper class? I bet you're smart enough and the physical part must be a breeze for you."

It seemed Riona had been right in deciding it best the duo didn't continue their game of truth or dare. Honestly, anything scarce of "I dare you to make me a sandwich" would have likely caused the distressed officer to feint on the spot. Of course, the little sign of intimacy wasn't so effective on Rio herself. She'd done this quite a few times before, as the teen years often stood out as the time to experiment and grow. Lyante was a bit behind on the curve in that regard, but at least she had a taste now- that put her ahead of quite a few boys she knew before her departure to the slums.
The agenda switched over as the artificial sun grew heavy on its horizon. Games were next up on the agenda- another almost alien thing to the slum dwelling lion. It had certainly been a long time since she'd dabbled in them, but it wouldn't take long before familiar feelings began returning en mass. The idea that Lya had spent countless hours just trying to get past the first level was almost laughable, but somehow Rio thought that making the emotion known would cause some form of melancholy. Instead, she stayed silent, only nodding in observation as Lyante set up the controllers- her composure falling like a rock in the ocean as she baby talked her pillow. "Did you jus-.....na...na-yahahaha oh man....I'm sorry. Sorry. It's just, it was the baby voice more than anything else I swear. You made this little kissy face and..-" Rio snickered, taming her laughter after a brief respite and taking in several deep breaths to attempt ridding herself of the humor in their situation.
She waved off the embarrassment however, flashing that charming smile of hers that told the officer without words Rio had only been laughing at the moment- not Lyante herself. The red headed lion scooted over as Lyante set out the bed spread and picked up a controller, ready to give what skill remained in her memory to getting past this fabled first level Lyante had struggled with for so long.
And a hard fought battle it was.
By the time they had stopped, the sun had set and darkness took rest over the upper class city like a snugly fitted blanket. They shut off the game- putting their progress to rest and getting into a more comfortable setting on the folded out futons. The silence helped Rio concentrate enough to check for the last time there was nobody else present in the apartment. In dead silence, even breathing could be picked up with catlike hearing. It added an extra layer of comfort to Rio's night, though the idea of falling asleep was still a gamble to her. Rio slept heavily, and a lot of things could change in an instant, let alone six to eight hours.
For the moment, that wouldn't appear to be posing a problem however. Even on the brink of sleep, Lyante was fairly talkative- something Rio appreciated in her almost nervous midriff. "Well, you made the night a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I had some fun, and that's more than I can say for most nights I spend repaying a debt to someone."
"Mm. I like Lyante more, personally. My full name is Riona...but I never really liked it. Sounded like one of those names you only called out when the person was in trouble for something."
The last question of the night hit a bit closer to home however. Rio stared at the ceiling, laying flat on her back with an emotionless expression on her face. It soon turned to melancholy as the lion looked back, remembering all the times she'd asked herself the very same question- knowing yes or no wasn't dictated by what she wanted anymore. "That's...not really an option anymore. Not right now, anyways." It was hard to not make a comment like that sound cripplingly depressing, but the reality was there. She couldn't walk away from a life like this- maybe in time and with a series of extremely precise plans, but the near future had already been written in stone.
There was a bit of silence between the two after that. Thoughts that ran wild in the lions head slowed as the room around her darkened. Tired eyes fought the lids that saw to close them, and eventually the battle was lost. It took a while, but Rio eventually passed out in the futon, taking in the warm embrace of slumber.

Lyante was about to die as she realised she had just adressed her pillow in front of Rio, but the way the catgirl laughed and waved, Lyante wasn't sure, it didn't feel like the laughter was at her expense, but more like she was part of the fun. She giggled a bit embarrassed, "w-well, he's kind of my baby," she whispered, hugging the pillow and crawling under the covers with it.
The next hours were a relevation to Lyante, she would never have guessed just how much more easy this game was with 2 players. She shot Mr. Pillow an accussing stare as if he had been holding back all this time.
As they laid in bed, Lyante took Rio's answer about whether or not she'd take the test again as a good point to stop asking questions. She had Rio's picture...and her name...she wondered if there would be anything she could work out for Rio. She had escaped the slums, maybe Rio could too without her mob ties keeping her back? As she stared at the ceiling contemplating the possibilities, she suddenly became aware of Rio's breathing.
Slow and steady, little pauses between inhale and exhale; the typical breathing pattern of someone that slept. But there was something special about this person; this person was sleeping just a short distance away in the adjacent bed. Lyante blushed, if this had been a classic king size bed, Rio would be just as far and sleep in the same bed. Lyante bit her lip. This had never happened before. She remembered the ferris wheel and how amazing another person's warmth had felt. A thought popped up in her head and Lyante instantly felt guilty.
Another hour later and Lyante's heart was still racing. The hour had done nothing to make her feel less agitated and sleep wouldn't come. Eventually she just couldn't resist anymore and carefully began scooting over to the edge of the futon. Carefully, waiting a bit after each hesitant movement, she slipped under Rio's cover, feeling the heat radiating from Rio's body. Feeling incredibly guilty towards Rio and mr. Pillow, she lied there, basking in the pleasant warmth, thinking about returning to her own bed before Rio woke up.
She told herself just to stay a little longer and before she knew it she had fallen asleep.

Although the sleep hadn't been voluntary, it was well earned and equally needed. Rio had wanted to stay up a majority of the night and leave early in the morning- but the eerie silence of the upper class town made for an especially relaxing environment. No broken machinery in the background or all manner of activity roaming throughout the night. Just silence, the remnants of a quiet, high-class neighborhood that had no use being up once the sun had set. She had grown accustomed to the rambling white noise around her, but the silence- as creepy as it had been at first was now a welcoming melody of nothing.
And so on she slept.
The sensation of something slinking under the sheets should have sent lightning to every nerve in the lions body that told her to wake up and defend, but in her subconscious state the additional heat was simply welcomed. Even the simple cot laid out was comfortable compared to her own bed, but the addition of a close source of heat made the bed even more enticing. It didn't take long before Rio turned towards the source, grasping it like a sleeping cat grasping a warm hand and pulling the officer close. Her muscles tensed, pulling the two bodies together as Rio buried her face into Lyante's neck.
Part of the reaction was instinctual, the other a subconscious desire to pair up with another organism to share a moment of vulnerability. Of course, the proud lion would never admit something like that out loud. Ten years alone in the slums bred more resentment than anything else- and the concept of opening up to another person sent all the wrong shivers down her spine. Feelings didn't matter in the abyss of sleep however. What felt right in the moment held zero consequences. Somehow, this simply felt..right.
It started low at first, almost inaudible, but soon began to grow in pitch. A low rumbling from the lion's stomach and up through her throat. She'd never admit to doing it aloud, but Rio in fact possessed the ability to purr. It came out very infrequently to say the least, but its ability remained true. As she greedily absorbed the heat of the other girl, the noise grew slowly until a rhythmic, calming melody echoed into the other girls neck, accented by the occasional movements as the lioness pushed herself closer, twisting and turning her head in an attempt to forever seek the most comfortable position.
But even without it, until dawn broke and the rules of the conscious told her this was wrong. A night of sleep like this would do the redhead some good.

Lyante awoke when she felt something brush against her. It took her a few seconds to remember where she was, but as the grogginess of sleep left her, panic soon took over. She was still lying in Rio's bed and before she realised it, Rio's jaw was already at her neck.
She's gonna kill me! Lyante thought, her reflexes completely gone by virtue of the situation. She braced herself as she felt Rio's breath in her neck, her mind racing about what to do.
The feared bite, however, didn't come; instead, she was being pulled close. Rio was finding a comfortable position to manipulate her new pillow in, while Lyante froze up even more. She felt Rio's body pushed against hers, the soft hot breath in her neck as Rio snuggled close. Lyante hadn't stopped panicking though:
How am I gonna explain this? Godthisfeelswarm. She's gonna kill me for sure! Butitfeelssocomfy. She's not gonna wanna come back ever, no more sleepovers. ThenmaybeIshouldmakethemostofthisone...
Her little internal dialogue was interrupted by a low grumbling sound, suddenly welling up from Rio. It startled Lyante at first, but as she realized just what it was, she relaxed, prompting another round of Rio pulling her closer and finding the optimal comfortable position. Lyante started breathing again, thought creeping into her mind that she tried to suppress.
The temptation proved too much however and her free arm slid under the sheets towards Rio. Not able to move her head, she navigated by touch, until her hand and reached Rio's ear. Gently, she tentatively touched it and waited with baited breath for a reaction. When none came, she grew more bolder and before long, she was scratching Rio behind the ear, once again causing a low purring to spring into existence.
Lyante couldn't stop smiling, not only had she discovered Rio did, in fact, purr, but she had caused it. She wanted to brag about it, but was pretty sure Rio would definitely kill her if she did, so she tried to hold herself back. Still, The warmth of another person, the thing she had coveted for so long, she finally felt it. The man with the mole in the ferriswheel had only reluctantly allowed her to snuggle up; Rio on the other hand was a little more...spontaneous. Lyante stopped herself. Rio was asleep, this had nothing to do with herself. She shouldn't confuse a reflex for some kind of affection, ebut that wouldn't stop her from enjoying it.
The ravenhaired girl relaxed even further, forgetting about what would happen if Rio woke up like this and decided to enjoy the pleasant weight and warmth Rio provided. It was the first night since she had bought mr. Pillow that she had slept without him and the first night she didn't think about feeling lonely until she fell asleep; remembering the scene in 'neko neko paradise'; a big smile on her face.

In the depths of sleep, situation meant very little. It showed as Rio, the girl reluctant to even come over in the first place let alone spend the night not murdering someone, was snuggling up to the nearest source of warmth without a care in the world.
Rio adjusted several times, the lion clutching her unknown source of heat possessively and without much regard. Her purring was pure instinct, coaxed out in full effect when she was gently massaged in her sleep. The feeling was almost alien, yet brought back memories of fonder days. Girls in Rio's high school used to have mixed reactions to it. Some made fun of her, and her friends simply wouldn't leave her alone when it came to slumber parties. 'Who can make Rio purr the fastest' was the general name of the game. The purpose? Swarm the young lion every sleepover for a free three or more girl massage. Looking back, it was a pretty sweet deal. It was a shame times and trust hadn't permitted for such a thing to happen again.
Despite the massage and caressing, Rio stayed sound asleep. The night passed on with the Lion clutching Lyante closely. Of course, being the rough sleeper she was, even a source of warmth hadn't stopped the lion from rolling about several times throughout the night. By the time she'd woken up, Rio was flat on her back, both arms over her head and half under the covers in a rather unflattering position. She'd let go of Lyante some time before for the sake of a weird, cat-like sleeping position. As the sun peaked through the blinds of the safe house, Rio slowly opened her eyes to take in the settings around her. "Shit...musta passed out."
Panic should have settled in quickly, but with the fatigue creeping at her organic parts she was slow to react. The young redhead sat up, adjusting her organic eye to the light and stretching with a little squeak. Her tail straightened and ears flicked a few times as she came to, looking beside her to see the raven haired woman laying asleep beside her. Her visage still resembled that of a sleepy lion, perhaps attributing to why her reaction to the raven haired woman was so casual. "Nff...you creep over here in the middle of the night or something? Better not've done anything weird while I was asleep.."

Lyante was still asleep, lying on her side, her hair a mess as she slowly drew breath, drooling unto the futon. As Rio adressed her, Lyante was slowly coerced back into the land of the wake. Eyes still closed, she frowned as her hands kept searching for something she obviously didn't find. A low continuous whiny frustrated moan escaped her lips as she slowly turned on her back, widening her search until she finally touched mr. Pillow. Instantly the whiny sound stopped as she pulled it closed, hugging it tight and wrapping her arms and legs around the hugpillow.
A content moan now sounded as she began talking to it about her dream. Suddenly she realised just who was there with her; her eye popped open as her smile disappeared. Trying to pretend she was waking up normally while pushing the pillow away, she sat up. Yawning and stretching, she focused on Rio and smiled. She didn't know when she had fallen asleep, but she was glad Rio was still there.
"Good morning, Rio," she smiled, a ridiculous grin on her face as she felt thankful that the catgirl didn't sneak out while she was asleep. Lyante let herself fall back, scratching her belly. "I hope you slept well." She snoozed a little, yawning: "I can't remember the last time I slept that good." Lyante was hardly lying; between worrying about being lonely and the recurring nightmare she had, there was little relaxing sleep to find during most of her nights.
Eventually, she couldn't ignore her tasks as a host any longer and got up, still not bothering with pants, she was on autopilot, taking off her shirt and throwing it vaguely towards a hamper and grabbing an apron. Moments later her sleepy head popped from behind a wall, asking Rio if she wanted pancakes or waffles. Still two minutes later, the head popped back out, blushing this time asking for Rio to turn around while she got another shirt.
After a while Lyante set down a completely breakfast for Rio and sat herself down at the low table. "So," she said, " I guess this is our last activity." There was a hint of regret, but all good things had to end somewhere and Lyante didn't want Rio to feel like a hostage.
"Well, there's still the shower," she mused abscentmindedly. The silence that followed brought her back to reality. "Ah, no, I mean.. Not together, just..." Sighing loudly she hung her head: "you know what I mean."

Rio rubbed her eyes, yawning again as she got to her feet, only to sit down on the couch beside her and slowly await her organic eye to adjust to the light peaking through the multiple windows of the safehouse. She sighed, taking in a deep breath of the clean morning air- the last she'd see of the high end districts for some time she suspected. The early sounds void of heavy traffic or the sounds of murder were nice, very refreshing. It was a shame her sharp hearing would have to get used to the chorus of white noise once she went home- but all good things had to come to an end after all. This was no different.
She opened both eyes again, watching Lyante casually toss her shirt off and waltz off, poking her head around the kitchen corner a little while later to ask about breakfast. Rio met the raven haired woman's gaze with a blunt look as she draped both arms over the back of the couch. "Waffles, and I get it, you're bigger." She huffed, leaning her head back to stare blankly at the ceiling when the reality of her comment struck home and Lyante left to get a new shirt to match her apron. The notion of waffles was a luxury most gave up on early when entering the slums. That, and bacon. God it had been forever since she'd sank hungry fangs into those kinds of meals. More melancholy to start off the morning- wonderful.
Soon enough the smell filled the apartment. Rio's nose wrinkled slightly, her ears twitching towards the direction of frying foods. With a burst of effort- the catgirl left the couch with a groan as she made her way towards the kitchen- observing for a few minutes before being lead back out to the low table. She sat cross-legged, accepting the breakfast without question this time considering how the sushi had gone. It would have been easy to drug her during the night- although she'd thoroughly scan herself for tracers or something once she left the area. Breakfast, at least, was a very low suspect gesture the female provided. One Rio was happy to accept.
"Guess so. Not a bad night overall. I mean, I didn't get shanked and I didn't have to shank anybody else. I'd call that a win." Rio dug into her meal with gusto, downing portions surprisingly large for a girl her size. She was mindful to leave a good amount for Lyante as well- but it never hurt to embrace hospitality and leave your host with a full stomach. "Yeah I was...kinda assuming the solo thing. Judging from your pause and correction though, I'm not entirely sure it's what you're looking for." She gave Lyante a look that could only say "I told you so" mixed with a bit of smug ego. She grinned a little too much to hide the fun she was having with teasing the poor girl. After a moment though, she waved off the notion, turning her grin into a genuine smile again. "Thanks for everything, though. I mean, I don't know about putting 'trust' 'cop' and 'you' in the same sentence and all, but I've slept within 100 feet of you so believe it or not that puts you high above most people I come into contact with."

Lyante blushed at the shower remark, fidgeting and playing nervously with her food, trying to find the right words to defuse the tension she felt, although she did nothing wrong. Then, she understood that Rio was teasing her on purpose. However, the blush wouldn't leave her face as the tanned catgirl let her know that she was sort of trusted.
Whatever blush was present at her face, it doubled. With the exception of her work acquaintances, a waitress she wasn't sure how to categorize, and a pillow that hadn't left her side for several years, this was the closest she had ever felt to making a friend. Looking away, she managed a shy voice: "I'm g-glad to hear that."
Proud of herself and overjoyed with the turn of events, she quickly finished her waffles and got up to take a shower. The water woke her up fully, as she realized she was feeling truly happy; after all, if someone on the other side of the law could become sorta like a friend, who knew who else could?
Then, it hit Lyante like to ton of bricks. Rio, when everything was said and done, was operating at the other side of the law. More than that, give the nature of the mission she had encountered the Red Lioness, she was at the very least a high-skilled assassin with mob ties. And, remembering her own place within the dome, she was police. Not just any Novus Police, but the Secret Police, technically she didn't even exist. She prided herself in her work, as it was the omly thing breaking the monotomy of her otherwise quiet little secluded life.
Rio didn't trust cops as a given...but cops were keeping Novus safe, protecting people from everything, including themselves. Conflicted she decided to bring up Rio's file unto her eye. She trusted Rio, she just needed to check something. Moments later, she was staring at the mugshot of a younger Rio, counts of minor crimes that suddenly stopped. I can guess what happened there, she thought, mob ties and assassin specializations come with some benefits.
But that wasn't important, Lyante was more interested in the date. The believed in the system, everyone not being doomed or blessed by their birth, but by their own capabilities. It were things like this that shook that believe, The crimes didn't start until after Rio's 16th birthday... and then some. Lyante remembered the slums; what she had done to survive. Closing the eye link, she resolved to look into the system.
For now, she resolved to live by her creed and judge people on what they did, rather than where they came from. And so far, Rio was fine.
Toweling herself dry and wrapping herself in a comfy bathrobe, she stepped out of the bathroom and gestured to Rio, putting her trust into what she knew felt ok.
"All yours."
