She checked the address on what had once been a fancy piece of paper containing elegant handwriting. She'd checked the address several times, both before leaving and on the way here. What remained was a half torn and weathered piece of paper, still with eloquent hand writing visible in the center. The instructions were odd, beyond suspiciously so. To ask her to bring nothing but a pair of pajamas and casual snacks ran a million questions through the Lioness' head. She obliged regardless, carrying a backpack over her shoulder with the contents requested. This was the right place, but what happens after she knocks on that door would be the end of her certainties.
It had taken some serious convincing to get to the upper class districts a second time in so long. There weren't many excuses that got you a ticket past the rusted gray gate and into temporary paradise, not in the family anyways. Checking up on the final status of the informant she was sent to 'silence' a few days before made a good excuse. Rio had already gotten the pictures of course, but it never hurt to be sure. At least, that's what she told 'management'. Having prepared to fail her mission already, Rio abandoned the cause immediately and made her way towards the address she was given to start what was hopefully a night she wouldn't have to regret.
The nerves were definitely present, especially with her options limited. It wasn't easy to take guns to the upper district, and leaving her firearms behind twice in a week put the frazzled redhead even more on edge.
*Knock Knock Knock*
She stood waiting, back and off to one side as if fearing gunfire would erupt from the wooden door before her. It would be a silly way to kill someone when Lyante was in the perfect position to earlier. It didn't keep the Lion any less tense however. She waited, bag draped over one shoulder and ears twitching towards the slightest noise. It might have been awkward if this was more of a casual meet, she supposed. Being clad in boots, cargo pants and essentially all the attire necessary for a female soldier of some sort put her out of place amidst the mid-evening crowds of the higher up areas. It was easy to peg the redhead for a slum dwelling woman- prepared for combat. Function over form in all capacities.
Hopefully she wasn't about to sit down to another high-class banquet of some sort.

Lyante checked everything again. Game system was hooked up, screen was functional. Snacks were assorted and the sushi had arrived just in time. Futons were placed on the floor, making the room have an even bigger look of the old Japanese style Lyante had fashioned the safe house like. Admittedly, she had taken a risk, given the catgirl one of her regular addresses. She had bought the safehouse and had used it as a second home ever since and she really hoped she wouldn't regret it.
Going over the selection of games and mangas to read, she sighed. She couldn't help but feel a little bit conflicted. The secret police training told her this was the most stupid thing she had ever done, but her longing for something resembling the fun interactions like in the movies and mangas she had read was simply to great. After all, they had had a nice conversation before their jobs got in the way, right?
Embarrassed, she covered her hugpillow with a blanket; she would have preferred to leave it behind, but there was no way in hell she could sleep without it. Straightening the tower of movies, she was starting to get worried Rio wouldn't show up when the knocks came.
Jumpig up in excitement, she calmed herself. Already in her own sleeping outfit and her hair far from the neat pinned up hairdo she had had when they had first met, she walked to the door and began unlocking the excessive amountof locks on the way too heavy door.
Making sure to leave room for her to duck away ad get to some of the hidden weapon stashes, she opened to door to see Rio standing there, bag flung over her shoulder.
"Ah, you came!" Lyante failed at hiding the excitement in her voice as she beckoned Rio inside, "please, take off your shoes and feel free to change into something more comfortable in the bathroom."
Anticipating the probably confused catgirl, she continued. "So, I was thinking, maybe we can have a sleepover? Like I got games and mangas and food?"
Lyante gave Rio a hopeful look, she realized how weird all this must have sounded, but really, wasn't this better than forcing her to kill someone? And she might finally have someone to discuss her favourite manga series with.

She awaited the worst, though not even sure what hoping for the best would have entailed. A few ideas ran through her mind about what was going to happen. Maybe torturing someone? She hoped not, certainly, the prospect of bringing sleeping clothes over to an event like that could only mean bad things for the future.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity the door had opened. Lyante stood, casually dressed in lounge-wear with hair that reflected more bedhead than it did the pinned up fashionista style she'd worn during their last encounter. Naturally, this confused Rio to the bone. With ears twitching and head tilted sideways, the Lioness let out a half hearted 'wha-' before being ushered in by the police woman. She seemed cheery, like a kid who had people showing up to his birthday party. She couldn't lie that the prospect of ditching was certainly there- but the prospective consequences that followed kept her from entertaining the idea too thoroughly.
"I uh..." She was beckoned in too fast to complain, or even make sense of anything really. Following as she was told, Rio made it into the apartment, looking around and immediately smelling, sighting out and investigating the area. She was suspicious and it showed, although her catlike curiosity turned to blatant disbelief once Lyante began speaking of her plans for the night. "Are you...you're....are you fucking serious? I owed you a debt for killing someone and I'm paying it back with a sleepover?"
Shock was an understatement. Rio was outright speechless on how she should react. On the one hand, this only raised suspicions even more. Who could have put a ploy out like this and expect someone to take it without any suspicion whatsoever? On the other hand...it almost hurt. Bringing the Lioness back, the last time she'd had a sleepover was two days before she took the test that essentially ruined her life. 15 years and 363 days old, how quickly things could change like that. A melancholic look came over the redheads face for a moment, distracting her from the worries and potential dangers hidden inside the oddly japanese-looking safe house.
Still, Rio was strong. Stronger than she'd ever been back then.
It only took a moment for the marksman to break out of her trance. Hesitantly, she took her boots off and took a few steps in to the apartment. She clutched the strap of her bag hard, eyes darting around each new room as she entered it. Her ears twitched in the direction of any noise, careful to pick up any signs that the two weren't alone in here. She practically ignored Lyante for the next few minutes, cautiously inspecting the rooms around them- paying little to no detail to their actual contents save for whether or not there were guns or people in them.

Lyante blushed at Rio's remark. Gripping the elbow of her arm, she fidgeted: "I...I know that usually people aren't forced t-to come to these things, b-but I hope we can still have fun," interpreting the remark wrongly. She sat down on the futon, leaning against her covered hugpillow as she watched Rio snoop out the room, thinking she was just checking out all the activities Lyante had prepared.
Lyante was nervous; the usual confidence she showed when doing her job gone now that she had allowed someone into a more personal domain. She really hoped Rio would be ok with it all. Feeling a need to explain, she kept telling Rio what everything was, even if it was painfully obvious, further misinterpreting the catgirl's intentions.
"I didn't know if you had already eaten, though it is late, so I had some sushi delivered...but that's maybe an assumption, so I have other food stuff too. And snacks...Would you like a drink?"
Lyante fiddled around with her cup as she waited for any sign of appovement from the catgirl; the dynamic of their interaction suddenly completely different from what it had been. Lyante was wearing a t-shirt that was entirely too large for her, her shoulder poking through the neckhole and a pair of panties: what she considered to be perfect sleepover gear. It was clear she wasn't carrying any weapons on her body; though inventive as an assassin could be, she didn't know whether the same could be said of the catgirl. At any rate, Lyante had taken her precautions and for now, she was justa girl, hoping a new friend would like her effort.
"So w-what do you wanna do first? I got videogames, mangas or we can do something else, you name it," she tried to strike up a conversation; her tone lighter than it had ever been at the party, biting her lip in awkward anticipation how the catgirl would react.

It took a few minutes of cautiously walking around, sniffing the air and listening intently for the signs of any other presence before Rio was convinced it was just the two of them alone. She'd filtered out Lyante's voice, partially ignoring the descriptions she gave her as the two moved from room to room. Rio had little on her in the terms of self defense, but she would have still been able to hold her own with what little the Lioness had on her by default. Hopefully that wouldn't be a concern she needed to address here.
Rio eventually made her way back towards the livingroom, now beginning to pay mind to the words Lyante was speaking. She seemed nervous, very- actually. Rio interpreted it as trying to cover something at first, but maybe she was actually being legit? A socially awkward cop wants to hang out with an assassin from the slums. Maybe she viewed the redhead as someone who only killed other mobsters? Best to leave the illusion that way she suspected. Finding out you used to have friends in the division was rough, especially when Rio recognized them.
Her heart stopped dead in its tracks when Lyante mentioned sushi. Unable to restrain her reaction to the word, Rio's ears stood up on end, her eyes focusing on the container resting in the livingroom containing the rumored gold. Fish was nearly impossible to come across in the slums. A meat that deteriorated swiftly, and needed large bodies of fresh water to be sustained were traits that didn't function well in the slums. It was a rarity to even see frozen fish make its way down to her sector of town. Even then, it was usually a discard from the upper class- and the quality suffered accordingly. When your own genetic nature pushed you towards loving that kind of meat, you were painfully aware of how fresh or not the meal was. Frozen was still better than most of the foods available in the slums, but it didn't hold a candle to fresh fish.
Sushi.
"D-did you.." Her overlook of suspicion dropped immediately. Transfixed, the Lion took a few steps forward, dropping her bag and kneeling down to inspect the contents- tail flapping aggressively from one side to the other as if she was about to jump on unsuspecting prey. Snapping to her senses a moment later, Rio wiped the look of childish excitement off herself, coughing as if to reaffirm she still had control over her own emotions, she looked around the room one more time. "I m-mean...I guess if you're seriously being legit about this I have to uh...I gotta get changed first. I'm gonna uh...take a shower too."
Rio walked out, passing one more longing glance at the food laid out before making her way to the washroom. The redhead grabbed her bag along the way, stepping into the washroom; closing and locking the door behind her. 'What am I doing here' she thought to herself, staring the reflection offered in the eyes before sighing aloud. This was too weird of a night...but it wasn't time to drop the suspicions just yet.
Rio took off her clothing, folding it up and putting it in her bag after withdrawing the other clothing she'd been told to bring. Truth be told, Rio generally only slept in her panties, but that wouldn't function for pajamas around here. She took out a pair of common looking pajama pants and a v cut shirt- along with a new change of underwear. Setting it down on the toilet, Rio checked the function of her cybernetic arm one more time. It still had the skin casing she'd been gifted for her previous mission. If nothing else, she at least still had a stun baton she could withdraw if things got hairy. Aside from that, she was pretty much unarmed and in what she viewed as hostile territory. But hey, may as well enjoy the perks while she was here.
Turning on, and stepping into the shower was like standing in a wave of heaven. Hot and high pressured water were two hard things to come across in the slums. Having both at once was immaculate to say the least. The Lion found herself almost purring as she stood under the torrent of water washing down atop her. The temptation to curl up under the water and fall asleep was certainly present, but she knew it wasn't an option. Instead, she washed up, using what materials were available to clean herself up and coming out of the shower about 20 minutes later, clad in socks, pajama pants and her shirt. She wouldn't mention the shirt itself was kevlar, anything to potentially avoid a fatal interaction later just in case- though underneath was a more comfortable silk shirt to counter it. "So uh...I don't wanna sound stereotypically racist or something but...t-that's real sushi right? Like...with fish? If you're seriously not trying to punk me on tonight or something...youshouldbustthatshitoutrightnow--"

Lyante looked quizzically through the pages of her manga volume; I guess using their tongue to bathe themselves is highly impractical, she thought. Sighing and closing her copy of 'how to take care of your catgirl' volume 1, she wondered what else the series had gotten wrong. Perhaps I'll ask...if she gets more comfortable...later. Definitely later.
All in all this seemed like it was going the right way. Lyante let herself fall back unto her covered hugpillow and giggled to herself. She's gonna change and then the evening starts and i'll finally experience the magic. She picked up her favourite volume of her favourite manga and flipped it open at the marked page. The scene depicted the female main characters having a sleepover in a setting that was oddly reflected around Lyante. She had done her best to recreate the scene, albeit with fewer people. Let's start with one...besides, The catgirl character is one of my favourites and the others don't really add to the arc.
She quickly closed the book and placed it unto the pile when Rio emerged from the bathroom.
"I..erm..I didn't know what you liked so I kinda got every sort... We got all night and the box will keep them cool and fresh so..."
Lyante stopped herself from talking, she was scared that she would do something that would make Rio leave, leaving her to a sleepless night of contemplating where it went wrong and regret. Nervously, she put down the huge box and opened the top layer, handing Rio chopsticks and breaking them apart herself.
Still nervously blushing, she picked up a fancy looking one: "I think this one is my favourite, w-what is yours?"
Immediately regretting the question, realizing that the slums probably didn't have a sushi place. In an effort to stop herself from making another stupid remark, she put the sushi in her mouth and stared at the ground, slowly chewing while she pretended to look over the mangas and movies.
still looking at the floor, her voice went a little quieter, her tone a little softer, "Thanks for coming, I-I was afraid you wouldn't."

What restraint Rio had was tossed out the window the moment she saw the container of sushi opened up. It looked perfect, then again it'd been years since she saw it in the first place- so perfect had pretty low standards in her book. The Lioness squinted a little, eyeing what Lyante had stuffed back into another pile of what appeared to be short-form comics or something. Whatever it was, it didn't strike her as a threat- it could be ignored for now in favor of a more bountiful prey.
She sat down cross-legged across from the table, leaning in and sniffing again, as if her senses would allow her to detect knock out chemicals or something. The palate was diversified, and the marksman could recognize some as her favorites while others she couldn't recall at all. Too much time had passed since Rio had fish, let alone actually prepared sushi. Generally, the only moderately affordable part you could get ahold of in the slums were rice, and even that was a struggle sometimes.
Her ears perked up when Lyante fell silent mid-sentence. It took her a moment to catch on to what exactly stopped the raven haired woman in her tracks- but eventually she caught on. "Tuna." She paused for a moment, reminiscing in the past when such a meal wasn't extremely hard to get ahold of. Sure, it caused a pretty penny and what not, but it was doable enough to have for the young girls birthday every year until she had taken the life-changing test. "I mean, before I got sent to the slums. We had it every year for my birthday until I took the test. It's definitely...been a while." Why she opened up to the small bits about herself was unknown to the redhead. She kind of simply started talking, maybe because she found the first person in a long time that would actually listen. She dismissed the thought immediately, reminding herself not to get too comfy in the presence of a potential enemy. Still...the dark, beige-ish looking piece sitting atop a tiny bed of rice caught her eye. It was definitely tuna, though a bit of hesitation stopped Rio just shy of plucking the piece. "Hey. I wanna believe there's nothing weird going on and that some dude isn't gonna put a bag over my head at some point tonight. But honestly I'm having a hard time with it. If you are being legit, humor me."
Grasping the piece in her chop sticks, Rio examined it closely. She didn't expect to see anything in particular, but she was wary just the same. After checking out that piece for what felt like a full minute, she reluctantly thrust it forward towards Lyante. "H-here...take a bite to prove it's not poisoned or something. J-just...not the whole thing--" It was obvious she was dying to eat the piece, but airing on the side of caution prevailed for now. Rio's face almost looked pained to be giving up a piece of tuna for the sake of science, but she did what must be done. It was only once Lyante spoke in a softer tone that her look of anguish disappeared, replaced with a curious look as her ear twitched once more, picking up the sound of the young girl almost whispering. "...To be honest, I almost didn't. Everything you asked sounded weird. I would have come over and shot someone without a second thought, but asking me to do something like this...I keep asking myself what your motives are. I had to show up however, the last thing I want is my head on a database somewhere. Even though I took potentially twice the risk in just showing up...if this turns out to just be a weird request with no strings attached, I guess I can call the night worth it."

Lyante realized that her request had been far from common, after all, she did meet this girl on the job, and on the other side of the law. However, she couldn't help but take the 'everything you asked sound weird'slightly personal, sending another hot wave of blushing towards her cheeks and a slight lump in her throat.
"I'm not toying around," she said, swallowing down the lump and picking up the knife in the sushi tray; careful to not make a gesture that would give Rio the impression she was attacking or threatening her. She cut of a piece of the piece of sushi and ate it.
"Are you feeling more secure now?" Lyante picked out pieces at random, "or did I poison them all?"
The remark was the only thing holding any venom and Lyante immediately regretted the tone. "I'm sorry, I just...Work is work, you know, nothing personal." Somehow Lyante didn't feel like she was making the situation any better.
Taking a deep breath and involuntarily reaching for the hugpillow she avoided eye contact and confessed her reasons, seeing it as the only way to convince the Lioness.
"I just...wanted a night like in my mangas and try and understand how it feels." Lyante hated putting the feeling to words as it sounded so incredibly pitiful. She wanted to see what friendship was like. Not friendship like she had with coworkers or waitresses at places she often came, friendships where people did stuff together and had fun and...didn't get forced to attend a sleepover.
Lyante sat defeated for a minute, hugging her pillow, only halfly realizing what she was doing. Maybe this had been a mistake, she had been so excited, but had forgotten that she couldn't force Rio to be her bff sleepover buddy.
The silence continued until Lyante gave Rio a sad look and asked: "W-what's it like having a birthday party? Are your parents nice people?"

Rio watched as a sleuth of emotions unfolded before her. Lyante seemed to look insulted for a moment, her misinterpretation lost on the Lion who sat idly on the other side of the table, sushi extended and held delicately between two chopsticks. Lya took it as offered, cutting it in half and ingesting one piece before offering it to Rio. She wouldn't say anything, but her eyes focused intensely for just a moment- watching the movement of Lyante's knife before it cut into the small piece of sushi. What followed however was what the redhead could only pang as an offhanded attempt at being aggressively inquisitive. Of course, this seemed to withdraw immediately as the raven haired woman broke eye contact and looked off- a forlorn reason birthing in her mind before she gave it life as words.
To be honest, the scene looked pitiful. Rio's ears flattened a little as Lyante hugged her pillow in a defeated state. Her paranoia was just in all causes, or so the catgirl figured, but she had never actually entertained the idea that this may have really been the only thing the officer wanted. Nothing against her personally, but she did come off as a bit weird, so maybe even pretty girls in the high class could go on just as lonely as a slumdog.
Rio frowned, if for but a moment. The question Lyante posed to her certainly didn't help either. Rio didn't talk to her parents anymore. They stopped calling soon after Rio landed in the slums- not that it was easy getting a hold of them in the first place. She had very mixed feelings towards them. They were great parents, Rio couldn't argue that. But there was always the option to move when your child was downgraded in the test, and seeing them stay in the high class life while their daughter was given an almost guaranteed death sentence left a sour taste in her mouth. She wouldn't ever forget it.
But now wasn't the time for that.
Rio took a deep breath, letting out an equally deep sigh as she reached forward, plucking an untouched piece of sushi with her chopsticks and eating it whole. After biting down, she chewed with a satisfied look, ears jumping back to their perky state and revitalized by the rice-boated piece of heaven. "Alright, alright, I get it. Assuming you don't bag and tag me tonight, this doesn't look all that bad. You got a right guess with the sushi and you didn't pull some racist shit like stuffing the pillows full of catnip- so I'd say you're doing alright so far." Rio was instantly on top of another piece, grabbing the half of the tuna bit that Lyante cut and gulping it down instantly. It took all Rio had not to squeal in delight at the almost alien taste of her favorite fish caressing her taste buds.
After the second piece had gone down, Rio turned her attention back to Lyante, tail darting from left to right on the floor behind her. "So, I don't read manga 'n shit but I still owe you my services so I'll give it a shot. Just keep it....within reason." She flashed the raven haired woman a light hearted smile. It was more likely than not Lyante wasn't trying to pull anything at this point- but there would always be a little caution present in the Lion when she was in the discomfort of a strangers home. Hopefully Lyante would understand and roll with what she was given. The subject of birthdays and her parents went unanswered. On purpose, if tonight was going to avoid going to any more dark places.

Lyante looked up from obscuring her face in the pillow when Rio told her she got something right. "R-really?"
She felt a bit better and understood the subtle hint Rio had given by not answering her questions. It seemed Rio really had fallen to the slums; given what she did for a living, Lyante guessed she had a different family now. They both did, she supposed. She found herself wishing she had some memory of her parents, but the earliest she could remember was her uncle.
Lyante immediately snapped out of her gloomy mood when Rio said she'd give her mangas a try. Her eyes went wide, the pillow tossed on the futon as she sat upright on her knees.
"I know just the volumes to begin with!"
She dug into the pile of booklets and fished out three volumes, holding them up one by one and giving a little discription.
"This," she began, gesturing lovingly to the old and worn down cover of a manga that had to be older that her, "is the first one I ever read. It's still my favourite and it tells the story of a world without domes where you can travers the land freely and meet demons and all manner of people."
Holding up the next one, Lyante found herself suddenly blushing again. The cover less worn, but still having seen its obvious use. Realising just which manga it is, and that she was about to recommend it she quickly put it back down. "T-that one is, erm, a-an acquired taste."
Slightly hesitant she held back the third and stared Rio in the eyes. "D-don't get mad ok...I got the feeling the next one isn't always telling the truth." Slowly she turned the cover of 'How to care for your catgirl' towards Rio. "I-I swear that one came as a gift with some other ones! T-this isn't what I asked you to come here for! I'm not trying to raise you!"
She calmed down a little and put the book down while placing a pen over the book. "Maybe you can correct it? I mean... the lies?"
Normally Lyante would become agitated at the mere mention of desecrating her books, but this was a special case and she had a spare copy at home.
Lyante let herself fall back on the futon: "You're welcome to pick any other one from the pile, I thought we could read a bit while we slowly worked our way through the sushi. And after that a movie and snacks and then maybe party games?"
Her mood had completely turned as she laid on her back reading her manga, her face serious at times, then randomly giggling or exclaiming a soft "oh my" at the current page.
As she laid on her back, her hair slipped out of her face ,revealing her scar, not having taken the effort of hiding it with makeup. At times she would turn towards Rio and comment, starting to explain a few volumes of story before stopping and condensing whatever it was she wanted to say to: "It's just really neat, trust me."
Eventually they reached the end of the sushi supply, making Lyante put down her volume , yawn and stretch herself out before asking Rio:
"So anything in particular you wanted to do next? "
