Expectations? My, my. That was surprising. If anything, she thought he would have rather her fail, or watch her stumble and trip. Much more entertaining. Hard to believe he would think highly of her - though she doubted he would say as such. But no, she took her job very seriously. She always had. There were rare occasions when she wasn't serious. Sometimes. Maybe.
She gave a small laugh, shaking her head. "As expected. You never seemed like the police type." She didn't mind watching people enjoy themselves. There were just more matters that required her attention. Such as saying final farewells and everything of the sort. Silly, she knew, but cutting contacts was a wise thing to do in her mind. Less connections, less people to be used against her.
There was a moment of pause as she contemplated locking the door back, but she decided against it. No one would be coming into the classrooms for at least a full day, so she doubted they would be interrupted. "Well, we met here so I figured it best to see you off here as well." Kendra glanced over him, a hand rising to brush hair behind her ear while she sat on a desk. "Your test is soon, right? This might be the last chance I have to see you, so I figured having us end on a nice note would be well enough. Does it bother you I came?"

Perhaps in the future, yes. But for now her failure would mean he was down a useful resource and contact. Once she was more established he could afford to laugh at her stumbles. But for now it was in their best interests if he supported her. He may not have held a large amount of pride or that nonsense in her, but he recognized an asset when he saw one. She had talents that he had little doubt had landed her a spot in the Secret Police. And in order to make the best use of those skills he had to acknowledge them.
"Yes, an unfortunate matter that I had to pretend I was 'Common' for two years. But it was valuable enough. Never hurts to know how to fire a gun in this city, with so much trouble about." Ah, but laughter annoyed her didn't it? Was she hoping their last goodbye would be filled with tears? How awkward. He was touched that she considered him being used against her though. Samuel figured that meant she'd hesitate about five seconds before shooting through him to get to her enemy. A record, he was sure.
"Ah, so you were going for the nostalgic value." Really though, she did make it sound like she was heading to her death. Not really the behavior of someone trying to successfully hide something, generally. "It is, yes. Though you make it sound like you think I'll be dropping in class. Not exactly a nice note if I do say so myself. But..." He laughed again, shaking his head slightly. "I'm terrible sorry to disappoint, but I don't think that will be happening. I suppose now is as good a time as any to say it, but I have to offer my congratulations to you for your entrance to the Secret Police. To my understanding, we'll be seeing a lot of each other soon. So no, I'm not particularly bothered." He flashed her a smile. Not exactly a lie, if his plans went accordingly. But he hoped to catch her off guard to confirm his suspicions.

"You poor thing. Having to act like commoner. I'm so terribly sorry." Maybe six seconds, if he was lucky. He could think her a useful asset all he wanted, but that didn't mean she would stop from killing him if the need arose. Sure, she might be a bit upset later, but the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few.
"Not so much dropping in class as an increase if work for us both." Or for her, at least. She would be assigned a partner soon enough seeing as she had signed up for that program to advance herself more. Of course she didn't know who it was but -- She blinked. Wait, what?
".... I. Thank you. But how did you...?" She paused, crossed her arms, stared at him. There was no possible way he had actually accepted a position in the SP. Absolutely not. "Are you going to be my 'partner' again for the next two years? I would have expected to hear about this already." She was still confused. She hadn't told anyone of her acceptance, nor had she heard a breath about a new partner. Then there was the fact this was Samuel. He wasn't exactly police material.

"Spare me your insincerity. You're as aware as I am that more than half of every class is incompetent." Easy to tell which ones would be going back to their original classes come test time again. Better for the city as a whole that they did. And oh, six whole seconds? Well now he truly was honored.
"Not particularly healthy to cut off all sources of stress relief, though. Work increase doesn't necessarily equal the end of a relationship, you know. Especially because you are Upper Class and expected to be social to some extent, you know." And oh good, his bluff had worked. Rude that she didn't think him good enough material, though. He thought he would do just fine if offered, he just wasn't particularly interested in it. But either way, he kept the smile on his face. "Ah, partner? Sorry, I think you've misunderstood. I'm not going to be in the Secret Police. But I have do have a particular interest in forming a deal with them, and so I expect to be working with them closely. Thank you for confirming you are in fact a member, so I'll be sure to contact you about that matter soon. But let's leave business for later. This is a celebration and...well not exactly a 'parting' anymore, but if you'd still like to be sentimental I won't stop you."

"But unlike you, us 'common' people have to take the test much sooner - now don't we?" Kendra crossed her arms, adjusting her legs to get more comfortable on the desk. He had no idea just how hard others had to work to get to the ranks they were sometimes. There were still callouses on her hands from the years before being admitted to the police academy.
"Stress relief? I hope you don't mean yourself." One of the downfalls of being moved to Upper Class, really. She hated pointless parties. They were a waste of time, save for the food. Fake smiles, faker relations. Scampering over each other to move higher. Like rats. Ah - but there it was. She had once again made an assumption and it bit her in the ass.
Kendra frowned. "A 'deal'? I'm not really sure I'd want to be your contact for such a thing. Knowing you, it'd be less than savory." There had always been an odd pricking in the back of her mind about Samuel. Something she couldn't quite place. Something that was... Off. "But how would you like to celebrate, hm? After all, it's your party. What can I do to entertain, Mr. Graduate?"

"Doesn't change the fact that many of the people who graduated today won't be spending much more time in the Upper Class. Even if they do manage to stay on in the Common Police, they can look forward to a post in the Lower Class or Slums." Hard work or no, in the end it came down to intelligence. If you couldn't improve, then you weren't worthy of the resources the city had to offer.
"Only because I doubt you have anyone or anything else to take your mind off work." She'd never been the sociable type. And the parties weren't the most genuine things, certainly. But they did have their benefits. They were where connections were made and influence was spread. Members of the Upper Class who didn't socialize were generally the ones finding themselves struggling to stay where they were. And it was entirely her fault that she'd given the information away. He'd had a fairly good guess how she'd react, after all. Not that he would say that out loud.
"Oh you hurt me. I assure you it has the best interests of our dear city at heart. But as I said, that's for another day. I doubt my proposal can even be considered until I'm officially tested into the Upper Class. It has some final tweaks I need to take care of anyways." Well, she could be suspicious of him all she wanted. But the fact of the matter was that as long as he was intelligent and useful, the finer details of his personality didn't much matter. "Oh so it is all about me now? I'm flattered, Kendra." He pushed himself onto a desk as well, one hand going to his neck to loosen the tie there while the other took his hat off and laid it on the desk next to him. "Well, are you officially a Secret Police member yet, or do I have a bit of time where I can attempt to order you about without risk of death?"

"Well, it could be worse. Maybe they'll get a post in a nice neighborhood." It took a bit of effort, but Kendra was able to keep the scowl off her face when he mentioned Lower Class and the Slums. Instead, she kept the usual detached neutral look on her face, her legs swaying slightly. Someone born in Upper Class would never understand the walls built against lower ranked people to rise up.
"I have plenty to take my mind off of stress if needed. Really though, what could you offer in terms of 'stress relief'?" If anything he just made her stress worse. His personality flaws might not have mattered on a society level, but on a personal one they did. "I know how much you love attention. Giving it to you once in... A few years won't hurt."
A brow raised in his direction as he sat across from her, gaze falling to his hands as he took the tie off. It looked nice, she had to admit. Though, he was still a kid in the end. A barking laugh left her, hand moving to cover her mouth to stop anymore sound from escaping. Ordering her around? Cute.
"I've been one for a bit, actually. Sorry you're so late to hearing the news. Though I am curious... What type of 'orders' were you hoping to get away with?"

"I suppose nice is a relative term, yes. Well, regardless, their fates aren't really my concern if they're moving downward." Except for perhaps a few, they would be useless to him. Perhaps there were more walls, yes. But again, if they couldn't overcome them, then what use were they? Kendra knew more than well enough that only skill would get you far. He didn't see her campaigning to let the unskilled masses into the Higher Class or the Secret Police.
"So do you have a stress ball? Or perhaps a cat? You can afford a real one now I'm sure." Too bad decent friends couldn't be bought. He knew she was lacking in those. "My delightful company, of course. And you're saying I can only get your attention once every two years? Now that's very harsh. I begin to remember why you have so few friends."
"Ah, how awful." He tilted his head, 'pondering' for a moment. "Let's see what ideas I had...a heartfelt speech from you about our time together, seeing you dance about like a chicken, an erotic striptease followed by a kiss." He paused for a second longer than normal. "Joking, of course. Dinner would be lovely if you can spare the time, 'officer'."

"A real cat? I might have to actually consider that. Or perhaps a stress ball shaped like a certain headache." There had been a few feral ones roaming around when she was a child. She thought they were cute enough, but getting clawed by one had never been fun. Nor the double time to make enough money to afford the novigel she needed. "Your company helps my stress go down? Goodness, it really has been a long time. Really though, I'm hurt. Are we not friends?"
She scoffed at his reaction to her saying she was officially a SP member. Had he actually hoped to order her around? Honestly, that man... The pause didn't help much, a light dusting of red coming to her cheeks after the said he was joking. Once again, she scoffed and crossed her legs over.
"I'm not really sure the erotic bit would work well. I'm a bit stiff when it comes to sensual hip movements. But, I do have the rest of the day off. I suppose dinner wouldn't hurt. Careful civilian. I'd hate for anything horrid to break out while with you."

"Well, real enough. The gene modded ones are lovely, or so I hear. And oh dear, I had no idea you wanted to squeeze me so close to you Kendra. Should I be blushing?" He laughed once more, amused by her attempts to talk back at him. "I suppose you could call us that, yes. But as I said, I suspect you don't have many others who would say the same. You're a very awkward person, to be frank about it."
And it would have been amusing if he actually could have, no? Such prideful people rarely enjoyed those kinds of things. The blush was intriguing though. Not something he saw far too often on her face. "Oh come now Kendra. I'm sure you're dancing skills aren't completely horrid. Don't be so harsh on yourself. Shall I choose where we go or will you?" He pushed himself off the desk, feet already connected with the ground. It was rather amusing to see her swing her legs like a child, honestly. With her stature, she'd have to work a bit more on body language if she wanted to intimidate anyone.
