"Dreadfully. It was such a dull year. To think I was away from you for so long. To think so many years passed before we even met. Dreadful, really." In reality, the year had gone by quickly. She kept herself busy, kept her mind working. Learning how to strip in a sexy manner, however, had never really been on her to-do list. Watching someone as serious as her doing something like that would be a riot.
"Have you done something to warrant trouble, Samuel?" She leaned forward and laced her fingers together. She hadn't noticed anything. Then again, even if she was off duty, she could still arrest and eliminate people as needed. She did have a hidden pistol strapped to her thigh, as well as a serrated blade. Safety was key. "That sounds like a fine idea to me." She said with a slight smile, a knock on their door signaling their food had arrived. The door opened to reveal their server, and once everything was set out and they were once again alone, she took hold of her drink and took a deep sip through her straw. A shiver ran through her from the burn in the back of her throat.
"Might as well loosen up before we do this."

"I think I may have detected a hint of sarcasm. Although I can't help but see some truth in it as well. I mean, if everyone in the Secret Police is like you are, then I'm sure it's a dour business to work in." But he couldn't deny that he hadn't thought very much of her in their year apart either, beyond how she might be useful in his future endeavors. Perhaps she should take a few dancing lessons though, erotic or otherwise. They might help her to destress a bit.
"Oh no Ma'am, I've been very good." He grinned slightly. Well, it was mostly true. "The trouble comes later. But as I said, I don't feel like speaking business tonight." Didn't particularly want Kendra to have to evaluate whether killing him was for the good of society tonight either. It was certainly a surefire way to ruin an evening. His head turned as the server brought their food, going over to relax into the couch after it had been set down. He knocked back one of the shots he'd ordered before leaning forward to pick at some of the food. "Suppose so. Though I do find myself surprised you're even capable."

"Sarcasm? Never. Ah, but really now - You seem content enough to spend a few moment with me so I must not be that bad. Or do you enjoy that sort of thing?" Dancing lessons could very much be in her future. Being lighter on her feet would be useful for work, and life in general. Plus it wouldn't hurt if they ever found themselves on a dance floor again.
"Come talk to me once you've taken your test. Then we can talk business. How does that sound? Such a bad man." If what he wanted could cause trouble, discussing that later did seem like the best course of action. She hadn't seen him in quite some time, so ruining the evening in such a way wasn't on the agenda. Yet, at least. "I've never really been too skilled at holding my alcohol, so even I can loosen up. At least enough to dance with yourself, of course. Or would you rather I stay stiff?"
She raised a brow at him while downing half of her drink, an obvious shiver hitting her before she leaned forward and took some of her own food. "Just don't pick me up, if you will. I'm not really sure how I'll react."

"I find that as thanks for your mentorship during my first year it is only appropriate that I act a bit charitable towards you. I don't normally enjoy charity cases unless I have a good reason to, no." And oh dear, should he be flattered that she would take them just for him? Or perhaps it was sad she didn't see herself putting dance moves to use with anyone else in the future.
"You can be certain you'll see me. I do think it's a rather good proposal. But I'll leave you in suspense for now. As we said, another night." It would cause trouble, that was its nature. But it was the kind of trouble that would ideally help the Secret Police more than it would hurt it. He just needed to convince Kendra that that was true, and all should go swimmingly. "Is that the sort of information you should be sharing with me? Tut tut Kendra, are you sure you're not slipping?" Really, if it weren't for her shining marks in school it would be really hard to believe someone so inept was a member of the Secret Police. "But no, probably better this way. Hopefully it will hurt less when you step on me."
He laughed at her request though, glancing over at her. "Now Kendra, I know it must have been a difficult life for you, being so short and all. But I promise it's not all that scary up there."

Kendra nearly choked on her food. Charity case? Surely he had to be joking. She was far from something like that, and it didn't even deserve a comment from her. Rude as hell, that's what his comment had been. How she survived that year with him, she'd never know. Really though, it wasn't for him. Just because he would happen to be the first person she thought of had no relation to it being 'for' him.
"For now, we've got food and drinks and company." She leaned forward onto her knees, swirling the straw in her drink while she looked him over. Hopefully he would be a help. She'd hate to put him down if anything happened. She might feel bad for a week or two. He was good with his words, she believe in him making whatever the deal happened to be sound nice.
"I'm sitting here drinking with you. Seems like a useful bit of information to have." She shrugged and leaned back, legs crossing over while she did so. "If it wasn't information I wanted you to have, then you wouldn't have known it. And really, I could get a mod to make it go away the next time we saw each other. So really, no harm done." Inept wasn't really a word that someone would typically associate with her. But it was Samuel. He wasn't the nicest. "So you're looking forward and preparing for the stepping. Good to know."
"Ah yes, let me rise up to the heavens with your soaring height, Samuel. It must be nice up there for you."

She was something of one, yes. At least socially. Really, they'd been through this, hadn't they? But perhaps the year apart had been good. It gave him the chance to see she really wasn't very good at improving on her own. Always useful information to have about a person. And ah, but somehow he didn't think too many people would be inviting her out to dance in the future. And even if by some miracle they did, he saw her chances of accepting as dismally low.
"Indeed we do." He picked up the other drink he'd ordered, taking a sip of it. Not as hard as the last one, but definitely enough to keep the buzz going. Perhaps he should give her a drink before he talked business with her later on, since she was apparently such a lightweight. "I don't see why you wouldn't get rid of it in the first place is all. I can hardly see a situation where it's beneficial for a Secret Police member to not be able to hold their drinks." Wasn't like they couldn't get drunk at all, it would just need a few more drinks. They could certainly afford it. And he liked to say he was honest with his feelings. "More like accepting the inevitable than looking forward to it."
"Would you like me to find you a ladder? You could know the joys for yourself." He laughed, pushing himself up to his feet. "Shall we then? What kind of music were you hoping to fail to first?"

Really, was he someone to judge her when all he had seen was her alone? She was entirely sociable, and had plenty of skills in that department. But if he wanted to think that, who was she to stop it? Dancing wasn't really her forte, that was more behind a gun than anything, but if he wanted to think she'd turn it down let him.
The alcohol was certainly starting to make its way to her head. She could already feel herself becoming a bit dizzy. Not that it mattered. She had ordered the hardest thing on the menu. "I've not needed to go drinking for a mission, or anything of the sort. Not really my department." Ah, but really now. His feelings towards her were rude, weren't they? "So mean, Samuel. I'll do my best not to hurt you too badly."
A small frown etched onto her face at his comment on her height, a hand running through her bangs while watching him stand. "I'm not sure I could dance with a ladder." Her own feet hit the ground, and she downed the last of her drink before moving towards him. "Let's see what you pick, shall we? I'd love it to be something I can touch you with though. Dancing with a partner makes things easier, doesn't it?"

Well he never saw her out and about socializing, which was uncommon for someone of her class. So he made inferences. Let her prove him wrong though, about that and the dancing, if she wanted to. But until he saw it with his own eyes there was no reason for him to attribute good traits to her he wasn't sure she actually had.
There was a pleasant buzz running through him as well, although most of his second drink still sat on the table. Well, it was for if they stayed here a particularly long time. "Still, it's a weakness, no? I thought you the type to despise those. And I would hope so. I wouldn't want to make you pay my hospital bills as well."
"It would present some difficulties, I can't deny." He began scrolling the music selection, though he laughed as she continued talking. "My my, Kendra. I had no idea you wanted this to be so personal. You're more forward than I imagined." Samuel finally made a selection, and low pitched, ambient music began to fill the room. He held a hand out to her, waiting for her to take it. "May I have this dance?"

"Everyone has a weakness. Even you." Ah, what she wouldn't give to learn of those. Poking at him would be interesting to watch, though she wouldn't say so out loud. Maybe in the future she'd be able to do just that.
"You say I'm so unsociable, so the least I can do is make sure you see a decent side of me on occasion." How often that was, it didn't matter. She was surprised he agreed, though. For someone that acted like her company was so abhorrent, he was going along with it. Well, she might as well enjoy it.
Her eyes locked on his hand, her own extending towards him. She hesitated before letting her fingers brush against his bare palm and took the hand, letting herself move closer to him while doing so. "I can bare with it. For your celebration." She had no idea what to expect.

"True, but I'm not so quick to let others know about what it is. Not without significant enough reason to do so." He had no doubt just how much she'd love to know. But everything came at a cost, and he didn't think she was creative enough to think of something so valuable. But he could let her think she might prod them out of him as time passed. It'd make it harder for her to notice when he flipped it around on her instead.
"Should I take a picture? It would make the moment last longer. I can stare at it in years to come and remember the single time I saw Kendra Saunders at a decent moment." Her company wasn't really all that terrible for him. But he had a bit more patience than some others did. Not everyone liked to wait for one decent moment out of a hundred awkward ones.
"Now those are some mixed messages." He laughed, pulling her towards him slightly as she grabbed his hand. His other went towards her waist, though it just rested there slightly. "Hmm.." he breathed out, his lips near her ear. "I'm debating whether I should try to lead, or amuse myself by seeing how you think this works."
